We have idiots here two. Several days ago, police did their daily check of people in compulsory isolation, to find 13 of them had skipped out of isolation for the day.
Due to "hot spots" of infection in Melbourne, health workers are now going street to street and house to house in these areas testing everyone.

:geek: No wonder we are not letting them into South Australia! Keep away! You are "unclean" and worse than that, you cannot be trusted! :geek:

` Human genetics provides clues about mysteries of coronavirus: DNA differences suggest why some people suffer much more severely from disease than others' Financial Times
Scientists have identified a new set of 68 genes associated with a high risk of developing severe Covid-19 as geneticists seek to understand why people vary so much in their susceptibility to the illness. The data comes from UK Biobank and 12 of the genes are involved in the heart and blood circulation. Another project has identified two areas of human DNA that differed between patients severely affected by covid-19 and those who had no signs of the disease. One set of genes is concerned with blood group and Group A are more severely affected than group O. The other covers genes involved in the ACE2 receptor protein on the surface of human cells which acts as the entry point for the virus. Two international consortiums, in Finland and the US, have been set up to study this further.

Any effects of say, Smoking as a lifestyle choice?

Ignoring long-term damage effects of the virus on on the body, were the NHS treatments of Covid patients too ineffective and too swift to turn out life support and multi- medical interventions ? Vietnam and 101day coma/treatment (looks like he could have picked it up from the pool cue)

Case numbers 25/6 1,118 / 154 Deaths. BBC seems to have given up reporting daily ones
26/6 1,006/186
27/6 890/100
28/6 901 / 36

Thinking of pools but not the snooker type but swimming pools and indoor gyms its hard to see how they can make these places safe from the virus. I've been addicted to swimming all my life from 5 year old to now in my mature yearson the positive side I can see the pool itself being OK with controls but the changing rooms present a real and potential problem. The gym problem is probably totally impossible to make safe with all these people panting and grunting and breaking out into a sweat a not very healthy thing to do anyhow. I'll keep away and see what goes on.

Gyms are putting perspex boxes around the equipment item. cleaned down after every use.
Open Air pools you probably dont need changing, come equiped ready to dis-robe to reveal your cossie

Sally does that when she goes to the baths still has to use the changing facilities after the swim though or come home in a wet cossie. Blue Lagoon in Iceland will be OK, its one big unisex open changing room with showers at one end. There are one or two cubicles for the bashful ones but in the main everyone just gets on with it. Everyone has the same tackle so what's the problem? Sometimes we are "prisoners of our own device" as the Eagles would say. :extrawink:

The Colne pool and changing cubicles are kept in tip top condition better than a lot of the top hotels pools. Spotlessly clean with a cleaner in attendance all the time. Enough cubicles to accommodate all those who need a bit of privacy perhaps for medical reasons or just 'not a pretty site', actually no common open changing area like Barlick. Lockup storage for clothes etc. Showering before entering the pool is requested, probably less than 50% compliant, one of my biggest moans, but showering after a swim optional 100% compliant because of the chlorine smell. I wouldn't fancy making a sprint across the car park dripping wet in my cossie in mid winter. I just can't see making the changing area 100% safe unless numbers are limited and cubicles sanitized after each use.

We are still socially distancing at supermarkets, despite being Covid free for a month. That has meant, previously, only every second checkout being open at checkouts, so as not to funnel customers into contact. Today we found ourselves in contact again. Only two checkouts open...beside each other..so while staff remain behind screens, customers funnel through together unable to remain distant. It is not right to do that. Not yet...
I did complain. ( why have 14 checkouts, only two open, yet you have both together sharing limited space ?)
I just got a shrug in response..

although the number of cases is around a 1000 a day, I suspect that transmission is mainly indoors, with close contact or touching surfaces that someone else has touched or sneezed etc on. Or that we are testing the wrong or not enough people. Given that between half and 2/3rds of care homes have avoided infection incoming that does leave a possible large number of infections and deaths again still to come if things go wrong.

It has been commented that many of the 'excess deaths' for the past time are made up of people whom would have died, sooner or later into the future. Although statistically true, what is interesting that we accept a certain amount of respiratory deaths as inevitable. It also appears to me that treatments of older persons with breathing difficulties is/has been ignored for hospital interventions , when this could be done for more common colds, influenzas or corona virus (such as OC43) and these can be made worse with secondary infections ( one may find yourselve the tendency to get flu and a cough/cold within short or overlapping time ). again I ask, why do these re-appear in winter times are viruses hiding in the environment in some kind of dormannt model- or dormant in bodies supposedly clear of them , only to stat up when conditions change.

Probably worth mentioning too the long-term effects on heart , lungs and other body organs, the NHS will have a full plate of conditions and diseases going forward. Australia and NZ seem to have trimmed their exposure and consequent long-term amount of problems. The USA well, I hope they know what they have done (as individuals and a state)

Quite simply, are politicians (all) and/or UK Scientists going to take responsibility for when testing of key workers and likely patients was not done 'because they dont have symptoms' was wrong ? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/27/worl ... omatic.htm ?

Wine wouldn't make much difference in my case Maz!
I was talking to a friend of mine in Minneapolis the day before yesterday she said that the US would be OK as long as they all started injecting bleach. :biggrin2: She was joking of course about the Orange Knob. You should have heard her and her wife going on about Trump. It would have warmed the cockles of your heart.

The number of covid infected people in the US is going up like a rocket and the Centers for Disease Control are predicting it will reach 20 million. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes off again here - we're easing off some of the lockdown measures too soon. Many people have already decided the danger must be over and they're rushing out there to make up for lost time.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-53197880 Again another long-term recovery example. The interesting is the low oxygen yet still surviving with apparently no long term effects to the brain. OK delirium while ill, that is not unusual in fevers or lower oxygen as the brain efficiency(as opposed to effectiveness) gets mushed up - bit like dreaming re-arrangements. But in measuring the % oxygen are the devices actually measuring the correct thing/s as the virus requires cells to run its RNA reproduction process, which requires oxygen use itself , the virus could carry oxygen more efficiently that the bodies normal processes (lets assume the body normally transports 'just enough' for its own needs), or the percentage reflects the additional rubbish in the blood stream and therefore the oxygen values are slightly higher than a % would indicate, at least enough to carry on working (free divers for example can work with oxygen efficiency if the body is trained, breathing is normally a function of the detection of CO2 to be expelled, if either the CO2 could be split (? by virus?) or the body can actually work longer with a little bit more of CO2. Of course this is normally only a short time period and the mechanical interventions are needed but it buys a bit of time for the body to get back to normallity.

there was something Mr Rosen said, I will have to contact his wife as It corresponded to one of the ways I felt.

Kicking off This Weeks UK Numbers Tests/Deaths preceeding day to 29/06 815 / 25
Tests - given the Leicester situation are from NHS tests, results from private (workplace and some doctors) tests are not included.
Noted that the number of testing sites is planned to double , with the military planned to be brought in more to do them, One mobile unit was over the weekend within travelling distance of mums if I wanted to go. (more for a had it confirmation) bit of a faff to book online with everything else so it can wait for now.

You've probably heard the scientists saying the last thing we want at the moment is a nasty flu virus. The thing they fear most is a virus that spreads fast and kills victims. Let's hope politicians worldwide will take note of this news,,,

I think the flu strain (?) is going in the vaccine cocktail for October processing. We have talked about Viruses and Corona Virus but the flu virus style (which needs soap rather than alcohol washes to remove from skin - alcohol is ok on surfaces just - it is to do with the outer water repellent lipid shell interlocking over the virus particle surface.
