I've looked at China's second spoiler but it doesn't seem to agree with saying it's so close to Barlick (except of course if you're in China you might call it close!).

I suspect the connection to steam is in the name Budenberg who were famous for their pressure gauges used on steam engines. Worthy of a Times crossword clue. Well that's another brain cell used up.

My wife is 250 miles away at her mum's in Liuzhou and not expected back for a week or so. Unless I get a Chinese visitor I'm stumped!

Thanks David.... See THIS. It's built on the site of the old Budenberg gauge company at Broadheath near Altrincham. And yes, the connection with steam engines was via the gauges.
As for the new object... I don't know so will guess.
It's obviously a sculptural representation of the split between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland....

Ah, something to do with China's National Day and the holiday week - did they celebrate it in Cambridge too?

To quote you: "Recently we visited Swanage Museum and saw the diorama shown below. It illustrates how the harbour looked until the 1890s at Swanage when vast quantities of stone (Purbeck and Portland limestone) were stored up in what were called `bankers' waiting to be worked on or shipped out. Banking on this scale at the harbour began in the mid-1600s, after the Great Fire of London when much stone was needed for rebuilding in the city. They also stored stone sinks, troughs and rollers."

So I am guessing this was a message from a Chinese worker there. Chinese graffiti?

Well - this is fun isn't it?

That's either complete confusion or a good example of extreme lateral thinking. :laugh5:

Newmarket race course where a chinaman put everything he owned on a horse. Lost. Committed Harikari, was buried on the spot where he fell. This is his headstone?

You're 'joining the dots ' very intelligently now. Unfortunately Newmarket is next weekend - so you're still not there yet.

By the way - the photo has had 69 views - close to a personal best.(the butterfly on the buddleia)

I'm enjoying this.

Wow - we're up to 91 views now. I think that's a good measure of how many visits? The bots don't look at pictures - do they?

Here's what is next to the big rock -
AAAAA!.jpg
It's in the grounds of Kings College Cambridge - I was in there to renew my 'residents card' which is about to run out. It costs me £10 and lasts for three years. It is available to local residents who live within a 12 mile radius of Great St Mary's Church in the Market Square. Good saving on the £9 standard admission.

They say the poem is as well known in China as Wordsworth's Daffodils and the place is one of pilgrimage for Chinese visitors. Not a lot of people know that.

No but they frequent more on threads that have a lot of replies. Just compare a thread with no replies to those that have many and you will see the difference the bots make.
