It's very interesting to wander about if you ever find yourself in Chester again. I love the sign carriages and post horses, very Dickensian.

It had something joined onto it at one time, hence the doors at multi levels. Good for hanging people.

I agree. We have a shopping centre in the middle of Melbourne built around a shot tower, and it looks remarkably like this.

Not a shot tower. China is getting warm, he's broadly in the right area but more Yorkshire way. Clue, think back to what my areas of interest are, this is closely connected. (The chimney is a distraction.)

Do you call them rope towers? Where the rope from the flywheel drove various shafting for the mill. I can't remember the name of the mill, down in the valley near Rishworth/Ripponden?

A malting tower? The grain is soaked on the top floor, brought down a floor where it germinates and then progresses down until is dried on the first floor. Clutching at straws because although this was old technology semi continuous production methods were introduced quite late.
