You have to pay to park there.
There is a police car on the far left.
Looks like a water fountain about the right height off the ground for horses.
Was it old stables for police horses?
You are getting there. If no one gets I'll tell what it is tomorrow.
Car park and police car are not relevant.

No you're on the right track, it was later used for that, but what was it originally built for.

They look like worker's cottages but beyond that I have no idea.

I love this sign which is over the entry.

Well I didn't know that, what a smart looking place! I thought it must be near the station because of the tiny glimpse of the tower on the station facade.

That was a good one Gloria and I am impressed by Her Majesty's memory!
Have a go at this one....

Can anyone tell me what this is and for a bonus where it is.

It's very interesting to wander about if you ever find yourself in Chester again. I love the sign carriages and post horses, very Dickensian.

Looks like a tin mine head gear/winding gear.

Or for making lead shot.

That immediately reminded me of a Troika ceramic vase.

Sorry China and Gloria, not the right answer... No connection with Troika as far as I know David.

It had something joined onto it at one time, hence the doors at multi levels. Good for hanging people.
Part of an old mill. Summerseat?

Is it a tower for making musket balls by dropping molten lead inside from the top? Given enough distance to fall, the lead blobs form perfect spheres.

I agree. We have a shopping centre in the middle of Melbourne built around a shot tower, and it looks remarkably like this.

Not a shot tower. China is getting warm, he's broadly in the right area but more Yorkshire way. Clue, think back to what my areas of interest are, this is closely connected. (The chimney is a distraction.)

Do you call them rope towers? Where the rope from the flywheel drove various shafting for the mill. I can't remember the name of the mill, down in the valley near Rishworth/Ripponden?

It was in later years but you're right Cathy. Older technology. Start thinking!

A malting tower? The grain is soaked on the top floor, brought down a floor where it germinates and then progresses down until is dried on the first floor. Clutching at straws because although this was old technology semi continuous production methods were introduced quite late.
