I agree and it makes a change for Boris to get a mention on here without the usual almost routine disapproval.

Probably the kind of send of Boris would have got at school, as I guess many of us did, some of us just slunk off (depends I suppose where you Sixth Form Was). Mum left at 14 with fairly unimpressive words from her teacher, she did enough in WW2 to keep the lights on and the baddies out, and the manufacturing plant she worked at did not want her to leave, then she ran a number of church sunday schools and clubs for 40years and now on her telephone network keeps other folks going in the present times.

"most people don't like me"
That is not true and is a symptom of your current melancholy Ken. Take a deep breath, hug She Who Must Be Obeyed and go out in the garden to eat worms..... You'll feel better in no time.
My old mate John Ingoe rang me yesterday and we swapped cancer stories. He asked me if I would go down to his lovely house and lake for half a day if he came for me and I decided it was worth the risk, we'll do it in a couple of months as soon as he has got over his latest operation. It's a balance Ken, and a small risk is worth it!

It would be interesting to see how birth rates, marriage rates and divorce rates have been affected by Coronavirus. Being forced into lockdown together can put a lot of strain on relationships. :biggrin2:
That’s why we should be best friends with our spouse/partner before we get married...( they know you will always have their back, but sometimes it is their face you aren’t used to seeing 24/7.)

"most people don't like me" Actually I'm a pretty laid back sort of person. mellowed with age, but always pondering things over. Can't sit still for more than 5 minutes then I've got to be up and at it. Plenty going on in my little world. Corvid has never bothered me, fortunately it appears to be a transmitted virus and not one of Fred Hoyle's panspermia variety. Don't like the thoughts of things raining down on me like radio active dust. Yup, I'm here for the long run. The oldest family named member was 99 before he past over. Obviously no stamina. So why the "most people don't like me" statement? A temporary barrier to keep the buggers away otherwise they'ed be flocking here for a bit of moral support. :biggrin2:

Yep...just beat the “ buggars” off with a fly swatter, Plaques...and keep on keeping on.
The earth needs our older persons. ( I can’t tell you how much I miss older folk in my life. Just to sit and have a natter and a cup of tea with anyone older than myself would be such a delight. I am only 60. I feel quite deprived that older persons decided to bunk out too early.)

Just read this article
It's an interesting read, I did read something similar a while ago but not as detailed. The one I read was basically 'if you're fat you're doomed'. There are usually a lot of other ailments associated with obesity so it's no surprise that they'll be more susceptible to Covid-19.

My BMI is just bordering on 30 but I don't really have a lot of faith in it, it's a very broad calculation.

I tend to agree Kev. Doesn't take into account the ratio of muscle to fat. My BMI is 22.2 which from this starting point I can be 20 lb heavier and still be within healthy limits but with my underlying build I would be quite podgy. The big bottom line is that at my age the risk is already too big to go into hospital with. Being overweight is putting a marker down that their could be possible problems but then you have to look at the fine print. If you happen to be one of the pumpkin people then you have been warned that covid could be deadly for you.

Boris Johnson (the Prime Minister) casually says during a TV clip, that he now wants everyone to go back to work - if it's possible. He is seen wearing a 'face covering', and says he may have to 'tighten the rules on wearing them' especially in shops.

It's all a bit waffly 'Boris' isn't it? Are either of these now official policy? Why are policy changes if that is what they are, not announced clearly by a Minister in Parliament? Why are there different rules for Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland?

I heard Prof David King former Chief M.O. (who seems to be missing the limelight -( he was interviewed in the rain and darkness, wearing a flat cap in his back garden !) say last week that it is possible that the easing of lockdown measure might trigger an increase in cases, and that might just be what the government wants. Easy to get into conspiracy territory here.

My current policy is - I'll go back into general circulation when the Queen does.

PS Great idea to condemn obesity just after giving everyone half price Big Mac Meals (followed by a McFlurry of course) every Monday to Wednesday during August.

You will have a long wait then. Unless I have missed it, she has never been to our house for tea and buns even when we didn't have a rampant virus out there. I doub't that she has been to yours either. :extrawink: :laugh5:

Strangely you're right. She'd be welcome though, but I think under current rules she would have to 'bubble' with me to make it kosher. I'm sure we'd have a good chat about the racing though - six degrees of separation and all that.

Spent a long time waiting for the Queen, She was Driven Past, faster than slow, waved a bit, that was it, Bit like as spitfire flypast buy not as interesting. I think she has a sense of humour. If she gets Covid most of the rest of the family would go down too. Wonder how she manages to keep the weight off - maybe she does the smaller plate smaller portions trick.

10/07 numbers 820 Highest for at least 10 reported days. Maybe not unexpected give the social changes of last week
deaths 148 not the highest, but only 3 days higher in last 10 days. One would like a breakdown by age and location to have indications.

I reckon Ken and David have it about right. As for the Queen, she demonstrated the flaws in lockdown earlier when she went for a ride on one's estate. You can't do that in a high rise flat in the middle of a city....

I pondered this photo. For a 94 year old to be riding horses is what you may call pushing her luck. Not that she isn't allowed to ride round her/our estates but I thought she was safely locked away in Windsor Castle out of corvid's arms way. Perhaps a doppleganger.

On the satirical Dead Ringers programme they announced the freebie meal as consisting of a starter, main course and finishing off with a free trip to the nearest hospital ICU!

I see Gove managed to raise a fog of uncertainty over face masks yesterday. Opinions and personal preferences should be suppressed and a coherent collective view adhered to. But that's probably a vain hope with this lot.
Weak leadership?

It looks like we'll have to use the same annual vaccination strategy for covid-19 as for influenza and perhaps with intermediate booster jabs. But let's see whether the same result is found when more and larger studies are available...

So - this seems to support what I said a short while ago - I am working on the basis that there will be no vaccine, and no herd immunity, and so I will have to live the rest of my life without ever catching the equivalent of a 'cold'. Sounds like a tough ask to me especially as the winter is yet to come.

How will it all end? I doubt it will, and we'll live with the problem . I see that people are no longer talking about 'when this is all over' but they are behaving as if it is. A bit premature I'd say.

i came across this site today Swiss Doctor looks like a world perspective, with the ring of truth?

Why? That's a very defeatist attitude. There are many vaccine projects well under way around the world and we're learning new ways to develop and manufacture them.
