Mrs Tiz can't sleep because it's too hot - but she wouldn't be able to sleep with the sound of a fan going. Catch 22!

I put the fan on above the bed to cool the sheets down before we go to bed in Summer...then I lay under the fan without coverings to feel cool...then hubby comes to bed and turns the fan off because a) he is scared of catching a chill b) he is a MISER. Who can catch a chill when it is 30C overnight?
Then he sleeps, and I sweat all night.

We sleep like that about 8 months plus a year, Panbiker. Even now, in deepest winter ( down to 3 or 4 C overnight), I can’t stand being rugged up and wake to find I am only covered in a sheet. Hubby, on the other side of the bed, has a quilt, electric blanket, two heavy rugs, and his teeth chatter.
Different we are...

And you and I are very different Marilyn.
I’m really feeling the cold this winter, after our recent cold snap I raced out and bought some flannelette sheets. With my long sleeved nightie, socks, woollen quilt, 2 comforters and sometimes leg warmers and gloves... I am now a happy bunny 😊
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

I must admit...daytime visitors in the past have asked why the heater isn’t on.
What for? It isn’t cold. Is it? ( I rarely feel cold, but when I do it is REALLY cold weather). Otherwise I have both back and front doors open and a good breeze blowing through the house every day.

Actually it’s 3 comforters and sometimes I wear pyjama pants too. I sleep on my stomach and I have a pillow tucked in to me on both sides. Haha
I open doors and window every day for hours too, no matter what the weather.

Sally is the snuggle bunny, I like to shove my feet out of the bottom at the very least, good heat regulators. Today as it's just started to rain and we have thunder in the forecast I think I will bake, sourdough loaf which will take until tomorrow to mature and some instant gratification (more or less) scones.

Live lightning map has us clear at the moment. Last night the Pyrenees and Brittany was showing over 500 strikes per minute.

I must admit being cold in Tasmania last year. We had sleet and icy winds and our damp clothing never really got a chance to dry thoroughly. I remember socks in bed. It was heading out to outdoor toilets at night that made me cold, and stepping in unseen icy puddles, and that terrible freezing wind. Yes, I do know how real cold feels...I just don’t feel cold unless it is extreme.
My hubby is a snuggle puss too. Trouble is, he cuddles me to get warmth and I quickly overheat and have to tell him to get back to his side of the bed so I can throw the covers off myself.
I keep my arms above the covers and my feet ( indeed both legs entirely) out of the covers, to cool down. I like my back exposed too as I sleep. No covers up around the shoulders or neck. No wonder I wake up just covered by the sheet!

We certainly wouldn't be able to sleep without a fan in the bedroom.
Agreed , we put ours in some years ago. It doesn’t get frequent use but is invaluable in hot spells. We have them in some of the bedrooms in France too. So useful

We had a huge hailstorm this afternoon. I sleep on top of the bedding most nights, winter and summer

I just get into bed under the duvet and sleep. The front of the house is the north side and that's where the front room and bedroom are so they are always the last to warm up in hot weather because of the thick stone walls.

Morning all

Like our summer bedroom in France Stanley, but even there I sleep on top of the bedding most of the night, or certainly hang my right leg out of bed. I hate the restriction of bedding in any way on my right leg as it causes cramp. Bob cocoons himself even on the hottest of nights, tucking the bedding in around him, which makes it even more restrictive round me, thus I sleep mainly on top of the bedding.

It rained during the night and certainly feels cooler. This morning its an early start as we like to get to Bacup market just as it opens between 8.15 and 8.30am . If we want any other bits and pieces we can probably get them across the road at B&M at 9.00a.m . Bob wants to go in and collect our meagre winnings from last weeks lottery. Then its home for croissants and coffee.

What we do the rest of the day depends on the weather. Most probably I shall be sewing. My jeans/summer trousers are coming along nicely, and my bag of assorted zips arrived from Amazon yesterday, so I can now tackle the fly front. We may walk, we haven’t been out all week as it has been too hot. Its also cleaning day, which we shall probably tackle between us after breakfast.

Have a good day,don’t go to Bournemouth😂

I've had an hour and a half in the shed....

I've also done my equivalent of Bacup Market, popped into the Co-op for essentials like veggies and some treats as well. I shall come clean, that includes an apple pie and some cream and a small Kalamata Olive bloomer. We all need a treat every now and again, God knows I deserve it after the last few days. (The family matters I alluded to.)

Morning all

Another damp day ahead, the rain certainly came down yesterday filling up garden pond and Conservatory as before. I bought a couple of plants at Bacup market and had to dash between the torrential showers to put them in. At one point I had to seek shelter in the garden shed and filled a few minutes tidying up my plant pots and seed trays on the shelves. So yesterday was as planned, shopping, a thorough clean of the house between us a bit of gardening and the rest of the time sewing my jeans, which are coming along nicely. I shall continue with those today after yoga this morning.

In the evening yesterday we also had a zoom U3A wine appreciation meeting which was another good fun meeting lasting two hours. We did a wine related quiz, each couple/ household asked three questions. Some were serious, some were funny. The budding poet in the group asked her questions in poetic form, very cleverly done. As usual there were a lot of laughs. Before this meeting we had decided to have a Chinese banquet delivered from our local Chinese take away. Its the first time we have not cooked since the beginning of March and made a pleasant change. It was a good meal and there is enough left over for another evening during the week. Our error was timing, we should have ordered it earlier as we ended up rushing before our meeting.

Well thats it for todays update. Have a good day, take care.

Definitely a damp day yesterday, I feel today will be an encore. Painted some bits and bobs for the garden handrail today may be more of the same plus some brain work on what its ultimate design and assembly will look like. Going to struggle on this point. :biggrin2:

Put the matter to the Design Committee Ken and then go to bed. It works for me!

Image

Breathe it not but as far as I can see I have just made the last components for the beam engine. I shall review the piste tomorrow as I clean up. I think I know what I have to do now, no doubt the Design Committee will mull the matter over overnight!

I was resisting the urge but have decided to cook veggies so I have a clear run tomorrow morning when, before we get into building the parallel motion I shall make sure the valve travel is central. The design committee was working while I had my second sleep and I now realise that setting the valves on a beam engine is slightly more complicated than on a horizontal. I have to set the travel before I fit the parallel motion as the valve gear has to be partially dismantled. That would mean messing with the parallel motion as well..... Then I can actually time the gear by adjusting the eccentric only. Bear with me, it will work....

I think I will play radio this afternoon, give a few points away if I run across any contests on the bands. Lightning maps are clear now so safe to reconnect my antennas.
