Cathy, thanks for the heads up on the SMH article. I'm still puzzled when they refer to `sharing links' or `posting links'. I do that all the time on OGFB but the BBC and the newspapers won't complain because the links take you to their web sites. It brings them more traffic and is good promotion for them. Now if on Facebook it's actual full news articles rather than links that are being posted then that must be breaking copyright and is wrong. If the article appears as part of the Facebook platform rather than the news media web site then it's wrong. But I see no clear explanation of which is happening.

Tize, I don’t know about links etc. I think the issues are to do with one paying/not paying the other for using articles.
But fbook removed many essential updates re govt, health , hospitals and covid .
That’s how I understand it. Hopefully we will hear that everything has been worked out soon.

Cathy, thanks for those Facebook images. I understand the background but still can't see why simply posting a link on Facebook to a story on a newspaper's web site (like I post links on OG to BBC stories) should incur the wrath of the newspaper bosses and make them demand to be paid. The links will positively benefit the newspaper companies by increasing traffic to their web site. If I were a newspaper boss I'd encourage people to post links to my site on platforms such as Facebook. The only reason I can think of is if the links don't open directly in the newspapers' web site but instead open a copy of the story in Facebook's web page. Can anyone clarify this for me?

I'm glad some MPs are standing up for the leaseholders, as described in the link below. It's like a re-run of the postmasters who were wrongly prosecuted for fraud by the Post Office and didn't get help from the government for many years...

Cladding. Quite right Peter. It's a disgrace and Jenrick's offer was a deliberate attempt to get this matter out of plain sight. I don't think it has worked, too many complimentary matters have coalesced from old faults buried under cladding to the freehold/lessee system itself which is feudal and needs scrapping one and for all.
(But it's property isn't it and British Law favours ownership of property above all other considerations.)

A commendable project but I'm not sure the use of the word `selfie' is appropriate here. There's no mention in the article about the work done in Africa using thermal imaging from drones to locate and identify animals including elephants in the wild. That was done at night by adoption of the methods used by astronomers to detect and identify heat-emitting objects and also helps in the fight against poachers.

I suppose Womans Hour qualifies as 'News'

I rarely listen to it, but now Emma Barnett has taken over, I tried it today. Not disappointed. She had an interview with Camilla Batmangheilidh, who has not lost one bit of her self confidence and chutzpah. It's all a great injustice seemingly, and she is of course the 'victim' in the affair.

Barnett was quite easy on her - in contrast to the Committee of the Commons who memorably interviewed her and Alan Yentob. I kept -the cuttings from then - they make amusing reading. Here's an extract.

"Paul Flynn (Lab, Newport W) accused Miss Batmanghelidjh of spouting ‘psychobabble, this torrent of words, verbal ectoplasm’. It reached the point that when she offered to speak, MPs cried, ‘Nooooo!’ Mr Jenkin demanded, ‘Order!!’ Miss Batmanghelidjh told him off for shouting.!

I suppose Womans Hour qualifies as 'News'. I rarely listen to it, but now Emma Barnett has taken over, I tried it today. Not disappointed.

Emma Barnett isn't afraid of taking people to task on sensitive issues. She's now getting a lot of criticism and abuse because she pressed the lady Head of the Muslim Council to explain why she's not supporting equality with men for Muslim women. Some of the abuse claims that, not being a Muslim, she has no right to criticise what Muslims do.

They had Sophia Loren on Desert Island Discs this morning. Quite a coup thought I, and I have a six degrees of separation thing to Pozzuoli where she was brought up. In the first minute it was obvious she was just there to plug her new film . The life ahead

Shameless - she plugged her son Charlie Bridges (Jr) and one of her choice of records was the song from the film!

All OK for a commercial station I'd say when the film promoters are paying for the 30 minute advert, but not such a blatant plug for a public service broadcaster. I'm not saying cover up the Kellogs packets again, but I think this was a plug too far. The film is on Netflix - a rival to the BBC for goodness sake.

We have become a single use throwaway society. The next step is to go back to reparable designs that means when the little plastic widget breaks you don't throw the whole unit away and buy another. Most electrical and electronic equipment is impossible to open all adding to the disposable culture. I may be old fashioned but the emphasis on fashion, colour schemes, often feature young ladies with big boobs is simple brain washing to get you to buy something you don't need in the first place.
