Well, It looks like a gargoyle on a very old building. I shall not guess after that bleeding obvious observation on the grounds I might be right.

Just before we get onto Plaques' object, I'm puzzled that in Stanley's pic the 2 and 3 handled hammers have heads that look like spheres rather than the usual flat head shape. Why would that be? (No, I don't have the answer myself, I'm wondering if someone else can tell me.

)

On Tizer's comment. I've just cheated with a photo search. The image does say two handled sledge hammer for chain making. Other images show different shapes of these hammers. Perhaps the sphere shape is to help with the internal form of the curved ends.

It's on the north facing wall of St Bartholomew's Church in Colne.
Well it could be, and, if you say it with enough conviction, people will believe you!

Sorry China. St Bartholomew's lost theirs some years ago. All they have now is some modern tin trays.

Sorry Gloria. No real gargoyles on St Peters. just the odd carved heads round the west facing windows.
Moving too far away from the obvious.

Gloria, Start where Stanley left off. An old building that would have gargoyle features built into it. You have probably been there a couple of times and if you haven't you should have been.

Going on what is on the image, the building is old, it needs pointing and the side that weathers most is usually the East side of a building.
Newchurch in Pendle?

Well that puts the cap on it. I'm not playing any more, throwing his toys out of the pram. You lot will just have to go through life not knowing its a water spout on the north tower of Ghyll Church. Only the south and the north have water spouts. Serves you right for all the agro I suffered.

I know this one but it is eluding me at the moment. I'll take a guess at Rainhall Road.
