But what happens if you don't have a driving licence or bus pass?

I was thinking that as well Wendy.. Once you hit the golden 70 don't you have to renew every 5 years or so?

Passport? same issues about photo ID for voting, dead against that until or unless we have a National Identity Card. Why do Screwfix need photo ID anyway, not as if you are claiming benefit, you are just giving them money. :dontgetit:

Screwfix have only ever asked me for my name and to confirm the first line of my address. I must have an honest face :biggrin2:

Every 3 years after 70 Ian.
Colin has never been asked for ID at Screwfix, the order confirmation email or text usually does the trick.
Until I got my bus pass I had no photo ID, people would usually accept the old driving licence plus address evidence like council tax statement or similar.

My bus pass is a twelve year old me although I only got it last year. I could only find the time before last spare passport photos. Half an hour after I had posted the application I found the later ones. :laugh5: Bus drivers never look at anyway, just a wave past the machine on your way on. :extrawink:

I have bus pass and now post 70 a driving licence. I do carry a copy of the photo page of my passport and have used that a few times. As you say, no one actually looks anyway, except a french bureaucrat 😊.

Driving licence, the over 70s are returned without the photo page. I suppose its because most pensioners only drive to places that they've been a million times before so if Mr/ Mrs So and So passes to the promised land en route to the supermarket at 9-15 am they know who it is straight away.
Screwfix. At the moment you can't buy directly from the counter it has to click - pay and collect or delivery. Notification by SMS. The identification ruling is probably to stop shoulder surfing etc: No problem as long as you have a bus pass with a honest face.

Why have I had to go through hoops to provide a signed and witnessed photo for my licence if it isn't used?

Anything I have with a photo ID is years out of date. Is there anything we can get instead of these things, like an identity card?

Morning all

You could get a bus pass Stanley even if you don’t use it. It is free. My Dad had one, but never used a bus in later years as he used his mobility scooter, being disabled.

It was a good sewing morning yesterday. I got the shorts and top finished, and later in the day the instructions part finished. I should get those done today and everything back in the post tomorrow. The sewing was easy, typing the instructions and inserting the images less so. When I downloaded the images from my ipad to my lap top they were put in some weird location. Neither Bob nor I could find them. When I did a search the location named, was identified as being ‘unable to find this location’. So if the computer couldn't find them we had no chance😂. So I had to transfer them all again. It took longer than making the garments. The afternoon was much more relaxing with our friends Wendy and Keith and the post brought interesting. Things we had ordered over the last week, including the course notes for my genealogy diploma, a new winter anorak that was in a summer sale, and a new bird table for France.

The colours of the shorts and top are so Briony, bright and cheerful, hopefully they will help restore that bright bubbly personality.

I shall speak to her this afternoon on whats app, and speak to Eve this morning after my pilates class. Then its finish the sewing instructions and if finished in time we can walk over to the post office later in the day, and do a short round trip back home.

Have a good day everyone

Briony's taste is so like Susan's was at that age. She went in for bright cheerful colours as well.
I've had a good two hours in the shed and will post later. At the moment the schedule is have a breather, walk Jack, make breakfast and post on Shed Matters. A normal morning in other words and I am so glad that Jack isn't taking up all the attention!

The Design Committee have been busy and have informed me that they are not satisfied with the alignment of the valve I achieved yesterday, they want it straightening up so that's today's first job in the shed.
Otherwise a normal day, I like normal days....

Morning all

Sun this morning, will it last. Temperatures are supposed to reach 21 degrees, now THAT would be a surprise. It was yet another wet dreary day yesterday. I finished the instructions for the shorts and top and in view of the rain drove to the post office, thats a first since we came back from France. I was the only one wearing a mask despite the shop area having 5 people in it, and despite Rochdale promoting extra care to prevent a local lockdown. There was a conversation going on in the background about why they weren’t going to wear masks! When I came out the door outside was blocked by the same close group of people still chatting. I had to push my out. So much for distancing. There is a huge anti authority group in Rochdale who think the virus is nothing and all this is about controlling the population. What a farce. Lockdown here we come !👎🙁

With shorts etc posted I spent the rest of the afternoon doing the new toile for my jeans, sent some photos to Maxine, my sewing teacher, for comment and will now wait for a reply before I continue. Today is dance exercise this morning, then I shall sit with a little patchwork or my genealogy diploma for a couple of hours. Our friend Kath is popping round this afternoon for a cup of tea and a chat.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning Sue. That sounds a nice normal day. We are forecast to get 18C but then we are up in the foothills.

I have been Ancestry filing, for HOURS!
Gosh is it boring. I’m now going back to my father’s side of the family. A lot of these printouts are church/parish records, so it is one page at a time, and I must have done 200 revolutions of the billiard table putting records to who is who.
My fault entirely, because I let it build up.
In the midst of this I dropped a big file that had previously been sorted and it went EVERYWHERE. That one will need sorting again tomorrow!
I also went through a huge pile of my Mother’s letters where she remembers things about people, then joined them to files. I still have a shoebox of her letters to assign to files. Once done, I can throw a lot of records away actually, which will reduce things.
I am wondering who I can leave this lot to one day... :laugh5:

That is why I write my books Maz.

Well after a lovely day yesterday, today is back to rain, rain, rain. My poor veggie plants desperately need some sun and lots of it. Apparently our veggies in France are doing well. Our neighbour messaged me the other day, just for a chat. She says her husband is still cutting the grass for us, so kind, we never asked. We had told them to eat the fruit and veg but she says they will leave it for us now with our intended visit for three weeks from August 10 th, provided we deem it safe to go. The travel isn’t a problem as the ferries are very well organised, but the viral numbers are rising on the coasts, the tourist areas. Our house is some distance from the clusters so we should be OK . Our English friends who live there say not to worry. Their son in law is a paramedic and keeps them informed of the situation and at the moment there is no concern. We did read a french article the other day that says the track and trace system is not working as people , mainly the young, will not take the 14 days off in isolation . I think I mentioned it the other day. Also finding contacts is not high despite the mobile app. I also read in the same article that the same is true of Germany although the official line iis that it works. Nothing new there then!

Today is Bacup market, and later cleaning the house. It was a thorough clean last week so not so much this week. We spend most of our time during the day in the conservatory, garden, sewing room or workshop so things don’t get too untidy. I did polish the leather settee yesterday as it was looking in need of it. After the market we are actually going straight over to see Claire. I have a waterproof anorak of mine to give her ( now too big for me after losing weight) so we are going over with extra croissants and having breakfast with them.

Down in Coventry, Eve is up early. She has her first swimming training session today since March and is very excited. Yesterday she emptied her swimming bag to get it down to the minimum of things to take and much to Julias horror there lurking in the depths was one very mouldy piece of malt loaf and a fermenting half drunk sports drink! Briony too gets a swimming session this weekend which has cheered her up somewhat. The shorts and top fit by the way and have been approved.

The rest of our day is not planned, it most certainly will not be walking or gardening!

Have a good day everyone

"That is why I write my books Maz."
Exactly the point I made in household hints. I wrote my life story for the kids and then did my research on father and wrote 'An Australian Life'. That got it out of my system and I have never really been attracted to family history since. My attitude is I've had a good shot at it, if you are interested in learning more, go forth and prosper!
Usual story here, I've been in the shed for two hours and have made progress. Now for a Jack walk, breakfast, post Shed Matters and then second sleep.

Saturday is one of my normal swim days but I've asked for my membership to be deferred for another month until things settle down. Can't be too careful.
Spooky family history event. About three years ago I'd spent a lot of time doing Mrs P tree. Which led her back to Tipperary and Limerick but suspected it started somewhere in Palatine Germany. Gave up at this point. Last night received an email from America saying someone had posted a connection to a bunch of Germans that came over in Queen Anne's time. Total wishful thinking, this research gang has been trying to make this connection for years but now its listed on Ancestry it will be come fact. What can a man do?

My tree is not on Ancestry, so no-one will find the extent of my research.
In the early days, I did start a tree on Ancestry, but it was quickly taken( pilfered) by lazy people, who then put in false information, so I took it down, as it was no longer correct. I made a complaint, but it was not dealt with to my satisfaction.
Ancestry to me is just a tool, but I would never put my family research on there again. I still trawl parish records, often not on Ancestry.

My thoughts exactly Maz, I too love history but had to drop it at school to follow my dream of studying medicine and doing medical research. ( not that I quite got there) Now a days you do not need to qualify as a doctor to be a bona fide medical researcher , in the 60s you did, or just be a technician and general dogs body for someone else Oh if I had my time again. On retiring I decided I was going to do things I had never done before, and keep away from medical science. Hmm doing alright till this year😳

I have several trees scattered around on different sites , none complete, mainly there to add i formation as I find it but my main one is on my computer. I have to update that quite a bit. I don’t think you can ADD to someone else's tree on any of the sites I am on . You can send suggestions to the tree owner, make enquiries but not change anything
