I managed to get my grass cut yesterday too Plaques but it was hard work! I'll need to do it again soon as it only worked with the mower set to its highest cut. It was after 8pm before I finally got finished! It might get dry enough today to try my new strimmer.

No grass for us to cut now - wonderful! We can concentrate on the garden plants instead.

We are at that time of the year when we only require a 3-4 week cut.
In Summer we may do it twice a week.

Cooking done I have no excuses, I'll be in the shed but we are promised warm again all week. Not going to get overheated!

Morning

Dull start to the day but forecast OK. We shall be off after breakfast to drive to Coventry to spend the day with Julia and family as originally planned, but instead of driving on to Portsmouth we shall come back home. The forecast is for a really warm day there, which is good as we will be picnicking in the park, being unable to visit them at their house or garden due to our Greater Manchester restrictions. At least it will be a drier warmer day than last weeks family picnic in the park

It was warm here yesterday with intermittent sun. There was a good breeze at times so I got all the bedding washed , dried and ironed . I took the opportunity to do the mattress cover and the pillow covers, and between us Bob and I turned the mattress which then got a good airing whilst the covers dried. We ate out in the garden each meal which was very pleasant and I spent a couple of hours sat in the garden doing my hand sewn patchwork. In the evening we had a very good online wine appreciation session with the U3A group. My sister did a great presentation on pinot noir and lead the discussion on all the various ones we were drinking. Ours was a french one bought from the producer last summer in Beaune, it was very suppable.

A successful day...

So we can’t see our immediate family and grandchildren at their or our home or garden even though they live 120 miles away from Manchester. Try explaining that to an 8 year old without frightening her about the dreaded virus, when only 4 weeks ago we were sat in their house having a Sunday roast lunch.

So what do we do, we have a good old fashioned picnic in the park. The sun shone. I took the girls for a walk, well they took me to parts of the park I had never been to. I didn’t climb a tree but helped a stuck 8 year old out of one. ‘I got up grandma but don’t know how to get down backwards’ I was shown how to cross a ditch easily and then the same ditich in a different place less easily as I scrambled over and out with a little difficulty. Its a good job there was no water in the ditch . I don’t remember grandmas in my era scrambling over steep sided ditches. I played football golf a new game to me. That was fun and hot work. Eve and I managed 11 holes kicking a football from hole to hole. Eve won of course. And on an average of 75 m per hole thats some going with just lightweight sandals on . When the food was all gone and the time of their swimming lessons approached we came home by a lovely rural route through Derbyshire with the soft top of the car down. A great day and a relatively quiet one , plenty of space in the park for everyone to have plenty of space.

Last week a picnic in the park with other daughter and family, not as sunny or warm but just as much fun. I could get used to this.

Recovery day! Today I will not be climbing out of ditches or playing football golf. It will be a domestic day of doing the washing and perhaps a bit of gardening, or a bit of hand sewing sat in the garden . I have pilates this morning with a different teacher as mine is on a glamping holiday in Wales having a well deserved break , this afternoon we may go for a walk.

Morning Sue. I don't intend to do anything that requires a 'recovery day'.



I've had a nice two hours in the shed on my beloved horizontal mill. Totally obsolete, too slow and takes up too much room but exactly what is needed for today's task. I enjoyed it! Now for a second sleep.

We timed our walk in lovely sunshine today, despite it being cool otherwise.
Between loads of washing etc, I managed to complete another 20 masks. I will just keep going until I run out of fabric/ interfacing etc. ( I have another 15 to do tomorrow and still have fabric/interfacing and thread left.) Everything thus far is finished to the elastic stage. I was going to ring the Patchwork shop today to see if Elastic stocks have arrived, but I was a bit miffed they sold me medium interfacing when I had asked for light ( didn’t realise until I was cutting it up).
I simply don’t like their prices, as they are a tourist destination.
Anyway, no devastating announcements re Covid numbers, so I might just bide my time at present with over-priced Elastic. The product is like toilet paper at present, and people are paying a premium and stockpiling. ( Ridiculous!)

I have ordered some elastic rope and toggles as a kit from Amazon to make easily adjustable ear loops . We are not happy with the comfort factor of the elastic I have used...recommended for mask making. You may be able to get something similar. I found it cheaper to buy the two as a kit but they can be bought separately

I shall just advise people to tie a shoelace or similar at the back between the ear elastics to relieve any pressure on the ears...
I was planning more sewing today, but hubby has found himself with no work ( a rare thing of late). He isn’t a happy bunny when he has nothing to do and can not amuse himself, so he likes to annoy me on such occasions. We would go for our walk, but it is a miserable morning. Stuck looking at each other, so I have put a long playlist together for him (he couldn’t settle for the news or radio station music). It seems to be working so far...

Finally, hubby has work to occupy him. Just as well, because it is still a miserable day and there will be no hope of a walk. I shall have to don rubber boots to race out and check the mail box between downpours.

Morning
I am listening eventually as I have woken late. If its raining there will be no walking, and although it is pilates and yoga today it is not till this evening. As Taira is on holiday, I believe the classes are being taken by a less strenuous tutor I have no plans for today, perhaps cutting out some more jeans and continuing with tidying up and sorting my art work.

Yesterday being equally warm was also rather inactive. We had lunch in the garden and did go for a walk. Not a strenuous one, but one of my favourites through the woods in Healey Dell and up on to Rooley Moor. Quite a climb but in the shade. The views were stunning as usual but rather hazy. On the way back down it went very dull and there was an incredibly light shower that cleared the air and blue skies returned. Back home with a beer in the garden I traced the walk on my walking app and was amazed it was 4.7 miles. It didn’t seem like that.I did do a little gardening later cutting back some hostas and tired perennials but it was hot work. The brown bin is now full so the rest will have to wait till after Thursday bin collection.

It was a busy day for the family yesterday. Claire and Adam signed for their house and confirmed the move for the 24th, as well as picking up Erins new school uniform. I received some lovely photos of wearing it and her smiling from ear to ear. Down in Coventry her cousin , still being very sad, had a visit from the community team helping children who are suffering like her. She spent half an hour by herself with the lady explaining how she felt. Afterwards support was set up for both B and the family and community support will keep in touch and with the school liaison officer. Apparently there are a lot of children and parents suffering out there. Hopefully she will start to feel a little happier now. She said she felt relieved to talk to someone about how' she felt. She and I had a long chat at the picnic on Sunday, and she obviously has some very deep thoughts about the whole situation. At the picnic we had to explain very carefully why we had to meet in the park and not at their house. That we were not poorly, none of our friends were poorly or had been , but some people were so we were in the park away from lots of people to help others not get ill

Morning

I did not exert myself yesterday, far too hot. In the morning I went to the Range and bought some more folders for the art work I am keeping and in the afternoon I spent a couple of hours doing some more sorting and throwing away. I did a fair bit of sitting in the shade as well doing some hand sewn patchwork. I was so occupied I forgot to change and wash the towels which I will do today. Pilates and yoga were not strenuous but very not work indeed even with a fan aimed directly on me.


Today I shall wash the towels, and phone the dentist again about this niggling problem with my gum, actually the soft palate. If its a burn it should be better by now and isn’t, so I am getting a little worried. I need someone to look at it. If not the dentist then the Doctor. We are having lunch with Wendy and Keith up on the moors in Todmorden. As we have to eat outside we hope the thunderstorms will hold off. There is a canopy we can sit under.

Pilates at 8.00 pm. No more plans.

Morning Sue, silly I know but I really worry about your mouth. I think you are right, if it was a simple burn it should be over by now or at least, showing signs of getting better. I know you are doing all the right things so I'm not going to bang on about that. I think you are right. You need some professional advice. Don't shy away from exaggerating, drop the magic word cancer into your request to the doctor, that might tip the balance for a direct face to face consultation. I'm not suggesting for one minute that cancer is a danger but if it gets the doctor moving it is worth it.
As usual I am sitting down after an hour and a half in the shed. Just small matters like lathe cleaning and oiling and painting castings. My brush is clean and stowed away and I can face the rest of the day now. I will be extremely lazy today!

Stanley you are not the only one who is worried about my mouth. Whatever it is is fluid filled, bigger in the evening and subsided in the morning, cause no pain but feels odd. I am not a happy bunny. I have already phoned the dentist and the receptionist will phone me back with an appointment when the dentist gets in. If I am not happy with what she says I will definitely be going to the Dr. I think it is some sort of fluid filled cyst which apparently is quite common but may take weeks to disappear. I was googling last night, but everything said a burn should have gone after a week and seek help. It said dentist first, which. I was going to do today anyway. Its just strange it is so near the problem tooth but I think unrelated it to it. I get the greatest relief from applying Bonjela. I have been doing salt mouth washes 4 times a day but it has made no difference
