My first thought was a well, but couldn't think why there would be a top like that on it.

Dammit, a trick question to get me to admit I'm hanging around!
It's a Holy Well and very local to both Barlick and Earby. The top is formed from a millstone.

Wendy has it, The well at St Mary's church Thornton. Some while ago Wendy told me about some carved heads near the doorway to the church. I went over and found all sorts of inscriptions rebuilt into the walls. At the time I'm sure Wendy mentioned someone doing some research into the church.

No idea, all I can see is a big stone being dragged around. The wood looks like it takes some stick at the bottom. Just observations.

Are bones put in with the stones and ground up to use in pottery making?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

You've got it Gloria, well done. It's in Shirley's Bone mill at Etruria there's a kiln and bones were calcined in there and then ground in the mills by the arms pushing the bones round in water and reducing them to slurry, the 'bone' in bone china. Some flints were done in the same way and many of the bones were imported, there are some elephant bones that they kept for souvenirs, there are also stories about human bones from churchyards finding their way to the mill as well!
See
THIS for a description of the mill.
Next for shaving?
