Slightly behind the curve on this but Colne is now sporting some newly installed electric car charging points. These are part of a joint initiative between Lancashire Council (LCC) and BP chargemaster. For me its the old question of who pays for what? LCC appear to get a government grant ie: taxpayers money and the local authority provides the space to put them on. There is also an unproven suggestion that the electricity bill will be picked up by the local council. Can someone please clarify this? With all this in mind it is looking as though we are subsidizing a car industry which makes electric vehicles but is not paying for the infrastructure for charging them. Shouldn't these be be paid for totally by the car manufacturer? Is it just another cunning subsidy to increase profits to the car industry under the umbrella of global warming?

It would appear that BP put them in at no cost to the lccal authority and people who use them to charge their vehicles pay for the electric.

https://bpchargemaster.com/local-authority-offer/

https://bpchargemaster.com/polar/

Unless you have a source that says otherwise ?

The writing is clearly on the wall for fossil fuels and BP wants to be in there when every one has an EV

Why need it involve car manufacturers ? They aren't involved in providing petrol and diesel. Tesla have chosen to provide electric charge points but that's their concern.

BP have deep pockets they made £2.4 billion in the first quarter of 2019, all the suckers buying their fuel at BP I suppose.

Thanks Pluggy. This is exactly what I would have thought. Having just come back from a weekend at New Biggin by the Sea where I was told by a friend who has an EV that charging his car up at the Council run sports centre was free and also some of the 'reply' comments about Pendle's installations implied that the Council picked up the tab I didn't know what to think. By the time I get to the age of going electric I'll be carbon neutral anyway.

Listening to unfounded assertions got me trapped in religion for longer than I care to remember. So I make a habit of checking stuff. Social media is a cesspit of utter crap, I pour scorn on the tabloids for not being reliable sources, Facebook , Twitter and ilk are a couple of orders of magnitude worse

And mostly accurate. I question everything, even myself. The unexamined life is not worth living"
The only note of caution I would sound, "Beware of certitude" This applies as much to yourself as others. That's why I love Tizer's Science posts, they are based on evidence, but even they are not infallible.
However, Pluggy is right, we quite rightly criticise the media but the pedlars of fake religion were there first and claimed infallibilty.

'but the pedlars of fake religion were there first and claimed infallibilty.' At least with global warming they can't use the 'fire and brimstone' threat.

Which ones are not fake? Now I've learned to think for myself, I can't find one.

It was OK when the very early humans respected everything in their environment, not only the living but the rocks, rivers, clouds and so on. It all began to go wrong when some realised they could exert power by re-directing that respect to suit themselves. The emergence of priests.

Buddhism still pursues that belief and has no gods. In that respect I would not describe them as fake.

This is another effect of climate change and disappearing glaciers. As the glaciers retreat from the Arctic Sea they reveal islands that we didn't know existed. This is obviously of great importance for mapping and navigation.

See THIS BBC report on hurricane Dorian which is the most powerful hurricane yet recorded.
Any connection with climate change?

This highlights how fast glaciers are melting and how dust and algae darken the surface, increase absorption of heat and accelerate melting.
`Greenland's rapidly vanishing glaciers' LINK
Video: `BBC science editor David Shukman went back to the same spot on the Sermilik glacier, in southern Greenland, that he visited in 2004. The glacier has thinned by 100m in 15 years. Researchers say they're "astounded" by the acceleration in melting and fear for the future of cities on coasts around the world.'

The leader in the Bahamas mentioned that sea level rise so far has exacerbated the effect of Dorian. I think he believes in climate change!

Arctic tours ship MS MALMO with 16 passengers on board got stuck in ice on Sep 3 off Longyearbyen, Svalbard Archipelago, halfway between Norway and North Pole. The ship is on Arctic tour with Climate Change documentary film team, and tourists, concerned with Climate Change and melting Arctic ice. All 16 Climate Change warriors were evacuated by helicopter in challenging conditions, all are safe. 7 crew remains on board, waiting for Coast Guard ship assistance.
Something is very wrong with Arctic ice, instead of melting as ordered by UN/IPCC, it captured the ship with Climate Change Warriors.

The report about the arctic tours ship being stuck in ice has provided the climate change deniers with a great opportunity to flood the Web with comments. Here are photos and information about the ship itself: LINK
