I haven't finished the other one yet----things keep getting in the way of reading. It is a very good read though.

Finished The House of Special Purpose --- I really enjoyed the read, but must admit I had it sussed quite early on, and therefore found it to be a bit of a let down. It kept me very interested, though the plot shouldn't be so easily read.

I will try and start "Where the River Ends" today.

Gloria I didn't get it at all until the last two chapters. I must be slow on the uptake. I am not keen on the next book, I hope it improves soon

Have a look at one of the first books le Carre wrote, 'Call for the Dead' written in 1961. Don't be put off by his reputation as a writer of complicated spy novels. Call for the Dead is a superbly written, short mystery. A real page turner!

Might do that Stanley. I read the first two chapters of Where the River Ends last night, and it isn't grabbing me at all------ does it get better Sue???

Well I am up to 20% according to my kindle and I must admit to being bored!

I am afraid I don't like ,yesteryear. I will try to get to the end of this book. There must be some reason why the library recommended it. In the meantime when I am in France I shall read the biography Bess of Hardwick. I like to have a book on the go in France, ready for our visits. This is ideal as I can pick it up any time. It's also very interesting...a proper book as well not a Kindle book. You see I do read both!

I'm quite enjoying 50 Shades.......

It's improved a bit Gloria, I am now half way through.
However I find it overloaded with pages of tedious description, I also find it a little traumatic following the last days of a woman dying of cancer, having lost a very close friend not 5 months ago. I will stick it out to see where it is going, but I guess no where really

I took it back yesterday. I really couldn't get into it, perhaps I subconsciously didn't want to as it was a bit to close for comfort.

I finished the House of Special Purpose the other night. It was an easy & enjoyable read, but the ending didn't come as a surprise. I'm not sure what to read next.....are you taking up Stanley's Le Carre challenge Gloria? I might try that if I can borrow it from the library next week.

I have tried Le Carre before, and it's not my cup of tea I am afraid

I might get it after christmas. I picked up a James Patterson yesterday for easy reading.

I am two thirds of the way through Where the River Ends. It has improved and I have got the point when I wonder what will happen next.

I have finished it. The story got quite powerful at the end. Very emotional . I did enjoy it eventually but far too much description at the beginning, that quite put me off. I am glad I decided to finish it, but it is not a book I would normally choose. It was a little traumatic looking deeply into what terminal cancer can do to a couple.

Do you think I should try reading it Sue?

It depends how you feel about the emotional side of things. I found the descriptions a little long and tedious at the beginning but towards the end they are essential to the story. It is a love story with a difference. After I got half way through I did want to carry on , but the first section was hard going. However there are something's mentioned that are key to the whole story, which I think I missed by passing over descriptions rather quickly. Give it a try.
