Butts slaughter places under the buildings on Commercial Street in 1982. The red brick building was part of the range of stables down to the Butts. The bridge was to allow the top floor to be used as an extension of B&D's original joiners shop before 1932 when they bought the Model Lodging house.

This is the top of the ginnel down into Butts in 1982. The cast iron pillar is still there. The end workshop had been missing for a while due to a fire. It used to be B&D's workshop and it was them who built the bridge across the the two storey brick building that was part of the stable complex. Demolition of that building has started.

The Pram Shop (number 27 methinks) used to be owned by the wife of one of the instructors at the tiny college I attended in Barlick. I think he was called Jack Firth.

The college was actually part of the Barlick Modern School building but used by apprentices from Rolls Royce, Westons, ELE and other local engineering firms. I was there 1970 to 1973.
Nice small workshop, laid back instructors and where I learned to play 3 card brag for money.

It was part of Keighley Technical College really. We had to go to Keighley to take our City and Guilds exams.

I spent sometime down there when I was a lad. The mill dam had lilly pads at one end and bull rushes at the other, perfect conditions for the sticklebacks and carp that were in the dam. I had my first garage with a few mates for our early tinkering with BSA Bantams and AJS's, it was just past the Nissen hut opposite the mill entrance shed. Also used to help out down on Bill Craddocks farm, the field at the bottom used to be a meadow which we mowed in summer. Got my first car driving experience there in the field with the land rover when I was about 9 or 10 years old.

Another view of the mill in 1976 and the demolition of the chimney. The octagonal building is the old joinery shop which for a while was where Barrett's Steam Laundry operated. Brown and Pickles were in the old machine shop on the right and the open space in the foreground was leased for years by the Showman's Association and used for the annual Barlick Fair.
