Part of a shoe mud remover iron. Can't say about its location. The last good example was at the Inghamite church on Wheatly Lane.

Whyperion got it. It’s not in any special site, it’s outside our house, I suspect it’s from the original house, maybe someone can hazard a guess as to it’s age then we could verify that.

While you're answering Gloria's question here's another object. What can you tell me about this?

Tizer's mystery object. A guess at a steam whistle, possibly on a brewery.

Gloria's mud cleaner. Sorry my memories fading, I found the Inghamite picture but its not like yours, Founded 1750 with the exterior very little changed. a nice little alcove for the mud scraper.

Gloria's boot scraper... Cast iron and late 19th century I reckon. Ken's looks to me to be wrought iron, that resists corrosion well also.
As for Tiz, it looks like an MOD building to me. An air vent?

Not a steam whistle. Stanley is on the right track with an MOD building. Can you tell me what its function was and where it's located?

It reminded me of an airfield control tower. Could it be a periscope for a 360degree all weather view of the field?

The original house (small cottage) is still standing, with buildings, and has been traced back to 1737, could the boot scraper be so old? There was a house built in between the years of the old cottage and our house, which is on the old maps of middle 1800s, could it be from this? This house is no longer standing.

Have a scrape round it Gloria and find out if it's leaded into a stone or set in concrete.

It’s not where it would have originally been, it would have been moved in the 1970s. Could have a dig about to see what it is in. Had a look, this is interesting, it’s set in lead round the feet, then the entire assembly is set in concrete.

It does Wendy, so we will presume it’s from the second house (early 1800s) on here.

I haven't been able to find out whether it's a periscope or a ventilation pipe but there is much more to the building and that is a relatively minor part of it. It has had two different functions in its lifetime.

Could it be an air quality sensor. or being an airfield something to pick up various poisonous gases?

Or simply a ventilator?

Plaques may be correct, but pay less attention to the pipe and try and work out what the building might be that it sits on top of. I'll give you a couple of clues, it lies partly underground and it's in your part of the world.

No Gloria. Remember that I said Stanley was getting close with `an MOD building'.

Preston Cold War bunker, Langley Lane.

Wendy, was almost there with wartime bunker but it replaced the WW2 bunker. Panbiker and then Gloria were correct for cold war nuclear bunker but wrong with the locations. It has a strange metal tower contraption outside and Panbiker will probably tell us what it is!
