Butcher has goat in now, so we had a rich goat stew last night. Lovely. Pasta and beet tops tonight.
Made the first of the chutneys this weekend - courgette and green tomato. They'll be ready for winter. A load more'll be done this weekend. Crab apple jelly and rosehip syrup to come and given we're in line for a bumper elderberry crop, I'll do some elderberry sauce. All foraged.
Plus, loads of blackberries in parts of Wirral - seems early?
That carrot and bean burger is a recipe from the blog 'A Girl Called Jack', a young woman who through force of circumstance found herself having to feed her and her child on a tenner a week. She documents this in her blog; there's a book coming out. Worth checking out....

Blackberries aren't set here yet Richard but plenty of them. Had two potatoes hanging about, half a tin of baked beans and a black pudding in the fridge. Chip butty with olives for dinner and Chips, beans, tomato relish, black pudding and a heggy on top for tea. Two pears for pudding.

What's a 'heggy'? New one on on me that. Some form of egg?

You're lucky, your weather must have been different from here - the elder trees have no berries this year, it was too dry at the critical time. A bumper crop of apples though and the wasps are loving it!

Richard, just a play word, one of my kids used to call an egg a heggy.
Got so involved in attacking my LTP problem yesterday that I forgot my dinner. Fish finger butty for tea and three peaches. 24 hour fast slimming programme!

More discipline yesterday. A pork chop and tomato relish butty with olives for dinner and a high class cheese and tomato butty for tea. Fruit for pudding. I fried the pork chops in olive oil and it was a nice change.

Odds and Sods...clearing out the freezer.
I had a Curry Pie ( which was awful and ended up in the bin)...Febby had some little party pies and son had some of those and a Pastie. All served with Chips.
Not the nicest meal, but cleared a bit of room.
Shopping day tomorrow.

Got a wrap up from Stewart yesterday as they finish for a week. There's at least one cut in there I don't even recognise! I was on ham butties yesterday....

Funny day yesterday as I had three steak puddings in the fridge from the wrap-up. So it was steak pudding, mash and peas twice.

My portion control has been slipping lately and has been made worse by having to catch up on the short date items in the fridge from the wrap-up on Friday. To put it bluntly I've been eating too much and can feel it. Almost there now, only some roast ham to deal with. Yesterday I finished the boiled ham in butties for dinner and just had sliced bananas in cream for tea. I shall be watching myself carefully for a few days. So easy to let the weight creep back up!

When was the last time you digested any green, leafy vegetables?
When did you last eat a carrot?
Mother is not pleased, Stanley.

I can report that Stanley has been buying veg recently - though I didn't see what was in his basket - when he shopped at Chaudrys the other day. With his ingrained frugality, I doubt it has gone to waste.

Don't worry Maz.....
Broke the rule of a lifetime yesterday and got some Jus-Roll pastry to save time. Had the last of the lamb on butties for dinner and baked a meat pie and currant sad-cake with the left over pastry. Meat pie and sad cake for tea. David is right, today I shall have meat pie, broccoli, peas and mashed potatoes.

Had too much at dinnertime so tea was a bit of sad cake and some fruit. Plenty of pie, mash and peas left for today!

The meat pie bit the dust Maz. It did both meals because I extended it with Deep fried parsnips and cabbage. But in act of rebellion against your nagging about green leaves I used red cabbage!
