That was next on the list. We did what the manual said. We had noticed the machine would not switch off completely on the switches on the front, so we switched off at the plug, waited 5 minutes and switched it back on. Now working perfectly! These darn computer operated machines. It obviously needed to reboot . Phew!

Turning off and back on again has saved me many, many times...

I've always interpreted 'turn off' as disconnect and pull the plug. Kev's right, one of the most encouraging bits of information that came my way in the early days. Add control/alt/delete to that!
I shall do an hour on Margaret's engine then Co-op as soon as the doors open for last weekly shop of the year.
Must ring Kathy at the butchers, not much point getting an order this week.... I will not starve.

Going for a walk this morning from Earby through Thornton to Ghyll church then back via Hill Top with my pal Margaret. This afternoon i need to go to Bannister's in Laneshawbridge to stock up on bales of shavings before getting Col back to Airedale for his 24 hour pump removing. His line flush next week will be in a mobile unit at Steeton Hall and the next chemo in 2 weeks will be in Boundary Mill car park! He was tired but optimistic when I brought him home last night, and ate better than he has for ages, just in case he can't face food for a couple of days.

A good appetite is always a good sign I reckon.

I know it's all a bummer Wendy but at the moment things are going well compared to what they could be. Glad to hear Col managed some food, Kev is right, it's a necessary part of survival and a good sign. Give the old fart my best and tell him to be grateful he has such a competent woman looking after him!

He doesn't need looking after, just a chauffeur! Oh and someone to get stuff out of the fridge because his hands are going into spasm with the cold. Despite the unpleasantness of the treatment he feels that it is getting easier to swallow, which makes it worthwhile.

After I ruptured my spinal disc, I had a terrible problem with cold down the affected leg. 40C outside, but I had to wrap the affected leg in a blanket, as it was frozen. Funny things, nerves!

Morning

Don’t know what happened there. Woke at 7.00 am and thought I would just have another 5 minutes then next thing I knew it was 8.15 am. Its really thick fog out there, and cold but no snow, and nothing much forecast. Thats good as I want to pop down to Dunelm to pick up the curtains I ordered for the study last night on click and collect. We have just gone for some light weight linen voiles as the curtains will never be closed and the study needs light. As the window in the room faces into the conservatory light level in the room is low. The lighter walls and curtains should help increase it .

Busy day yesterday doing several loads of washing, all held up when the washer decided to play up mid cycle whilst full of towels. Pulling the plug and waiting did the trick but that was easier said than done . The plug is behind the washer and with the weight of washer and wet towels it was to be a difficult job. However we managed to get to the plug by moving the drier next to it. Once remedied the washing could continue, but I didn’t move the drier back or put the washer instruction book away till it had finished all loads.

I tidied out the pieces of my knitting machines and it occurred to me just how much I have that is never used. I browsed online for quite sometime looking for a dealer who would buy them from me as I knew they don’t sell on gumtree or ebay . I did find one and negotiated £400 the lot which is more than anyone gets on ebay etc. Many people I know just throw them away. I last used one machine about 4 years ago but it was knitting something for someone else. Now I have to photograph them and all the bits and pieces which will be todays job I think . We will take them to Solihull on our way to see Julia in Coventry when restrictions allow travel. I feel very happy as that gives me more money towards my sewing machine, AND more hobbies storage space in the wardrobe.

This is all good news Wendy. Years ago when Bobs Dad had cancer he volunteered to trial these 24 hour pumps for delivering the chemo. His stayed in though and they just kept reattaching the chemo at appropriate intervals at home. It worked, he lived another 15 years and , although he had been reduced to a wheelchair, he walked again. The trial was also deemed a success

It takes about 5 hours for the first three drug infusions whilst he is in the unit and the last one is in the pump. It's a neat little thing that works on pressure, it's a like balloon inside a plastic casing.

Bob’s dad’s was a huge thing that was made in the hospital workshop, at the Royal Devon and Exeter ( their equivalent to Christies) but we are talking 35 years ago . They seem to have come a long way since .The trial showed that the pump gabe a more even delivery and less side effects .

A busy but enjoyable day today. I put the ponies out at about 8.30am and took the dog for a walk round the fields for the first time since it snowed. There were fox tracks along the wall sides and hare footprints everywhere, we put up a Jack Snipe, the first time I've seen one for a while. Time for a coffee when I got back in then down to Earby to meet up with Margaret who lives near the Red Lion. We had a great walk from there to Booth Bridge, Thornton in Craven and over Castleber Hill to the canal then along the towpath to the back of Rolls Royce. Across the road to Ghyll Church then past Rainhall to Hill Top and back down to Earby. The ground was almost frozen enough to support us through muddy fields but not quite and it was hard going in places! I was glad I took a walking pole for extra support on icy roads and slippy styles. We were out for nearly 2.5 hours so I think it must have been about 6 miles.
First time I've walked by that bit of the canal...fascinated by the coal storage bunkers.
Home for a quick lunch then straight out to Bannister's to get shavings for the stables. They have an excellent Covid safe system there, no one is allowed inside the mill, Mrs Bannister takes your order, shouts what you want to the chap who works there, and you put cash in a plastic box fastened to the end of a stick which she holds out then disappears back inside to get a receipt and change. I got help to load up and managed to unload onto a sack truck to get the bales in the barn. Mucking out came next , followed by a quick cuppa then just enough time to see to the hens and fetch the ponies in before setting off with Col to Airedale to get his pump removed. Home again just after 5pm, lit the fire and relaxed with a drink while the patient made tea. He is doing remarkably well...

Grocery shopped early yesterday morning to avoid the crowds. Thought we had got away without New Year visitors, but son and his girlfriend have (apparently) decided to come and stay...but can’t say if they may arrive today or tomorrow!
Great now I have to brave the crowds to get more food in! ( they are big eaters)
I’ve done a quick fly about with duster and Hoover, which is something else I was hoping to avoid before next Tuesday, when hubby returns to his desk for work.
I don’t know if I will make midnight after all this industry might need a Nana Nap this afternoon.

Today I shall not be doing any shopping, all done. I shall chase Margaret's engine for a couple of hours and then second sleep and read towards 2021. I'll be in bed by 20:00 Wendy....
PS. The coal tips at Dodge Carr have always fascinated me. I have often wondered if they were for Gledstone Estate fuel but have no evidence.
