"Take care if you go outside it could be bad under foot."
Very true Sue. I have just been out to have a look at the rabbit and decided I am not in immediate need of exercise after an hour and a half in the shed. We haven't had a lot of snow down here in the town but what we have had is lay there underfoot and is very treacherous. Include me out!
Here's the result of this morning's hour and a half. It looks pathetic doesn't it but I just reckoned up and leaving aside getting machines ready etc. there are 16 separate operations on each of the three cranks. It adds up!
I'm happy, more careful accurate progress, that's how you build steam engines......

The view from my windscreen, potentially the waterpump has failed. It'll be under warranty as it was only replaced in February when the cambelt was changed.
My car is on the drive, youngest son and his wife to be delivered his car at 10pm last night (a 60 mile round trip from Harrogate) and the garage replied to my WhatsApp message and are going to look at mine as soon as they're open, the presumption is Tuesday.
I have wheels so can pick up today's dinner, from the Barlick Raj, and get to Wetherby for the wedding on Sunday. Christmas is saved
Got the Yeti back today, the water pump bearing had collapsed seizing it solid. The engine only run for around 30 seconds after the failure as I switched it off, not running it further saved a catastrophic failure. The waterpump runs off the cambelt and the seizure had started to shred it, any further 'shredding' could have completely stripped the cambelt and potentially put a valve through a piston. All repairs done under warranty and the car delivered back to my house.

Makes you wonder why the water pump is on the cam belt system when a plain V belt would do. All down to penny pinching. Fortunately you were able to stop it before any serious damage was done. Now-a-days a holed piston a couple of bent valves can write a car off.

I think most of the VAG engines are configured the same, it's never been an issue before, I've had a VW, Audi and more recently a Skoda, in the last 15 years. The waterpump is replaced, along with the cambelt, every 60000 miles or 5 years.

I'm glad it didn't hit your pocket Kev and well done for having the sense to stop it before the damage spread.
I shall be chasing an engine for a couple of hours in the shed and keeping warm while getting my exercise in. I got my walk in yesterday afternoon as it was dry.

We had a lot of snow yesterday, there must be 10 inches to a foot in places. My day was spent looking after the ponies who were kept inside, trying to concentrate on history society accounts, clearing snow off the poly tunnel roof to prevent disaster and fretting about being able to get out. Just after lunch I took the dog out and met my neighbours driving back down the track to Brown Hill in their 4wd and decided to have a go at it, just to lay down some tracks. Our bit of track bends all over the place and it had become impossible to see exactly where it was but I made it out and back successfully. Col will be expecting me to go shopping this morning, in fact he wants to come and just sit in the car.....

Well done Wendy, you're turning into a snow driver, I knew you would. Just think what an advantage you have now over the usual urban driver. They haven't the faintest idea how to do what you do now.
It's set to be very cold all day and that's good for grip. I have just walked up to the top of the street and it's very slippy underfoot. Be careful!
I've had a productive hour and a half in the shed. Here's the result. Three cranks all with their set screw fitted and two with the gap to accommodate the bars of the valve gear.

Morning
Beautiful dawn, very cold. Despite snow warnings overnight we have still had hardly any. What fell yesterday was more like sleet and soon dissipated. No snow forecast today. Yesterday was another unusual day . By the time I had finished dance exercise, art and lunch it was 2.15 pm. I then set to to sort my phone having googled how to transfer the missing videos , contact details and whats app. Now successfully done.
I was just coming to the end of that at 3.30 pm when a friend phoned wanting help on setting up zoom, so with a bit of remote tuition she managed to set it up and arrange a chat for 4.00 pm . We haven’t seen Jean, Bob and Alan since December 2019 so it was nice to chat face to face. Then it was my turn to set up a meeting with them. I use zoom a lot but have never set up a meeting. I arranged one for Sunday at noon.By this time it was time for a glass of wine and chill before I contacted Eve and Briony on whats app ( still on the old phone as I did not to accidentally lose it before I spoke to them )
What a day, not even a jigsaw piece put in place. Today in Bacup market, we weren’t going to go if it had snowed. We shall don masks this week. We din’t normally as its empty and in the open air, but we think we should now. Our numbers are still lower than mid November but increasing daily. I have nothing else planned for the day at the moment.
So have a good day all, be careful walking, I am going to wear my new walking boots , a good opportunity to break them in.

We did our usual quick early morning grocery shop...in and out quick smart before the tourists!
A warm day, so after our mid morning walk we have basically been “vegged” out on the couch...back and front doors open and ceiling fans on for a cooling breeze...watching Cricket and whatever else floats by. No stress today. Little done...

Morning Sue. Yes I think we're all doubling down on our defences. I like, "Behave as though you already have the virus and don't want to infect anyone else".
Have a good day, be careful even though you have new boots on!
I'm going to bed for my second sleep now.

Wow! Beautiful but bleak, Wendy.
Hubby and I have been recalling visits to the UK and can’t see ourselves making it over there again...I don’t think Covid and all its strains or future mutations will allow free travel as we have known it in the past. He would dearly love to see his Aunt again. We had planned it, but I think we are realistically losing all hope now. Sad.
Aunt’s daughter ( hubby’s cousin) was murdered in UK two years ago...and he really needs to see his Aunt one last time.

Well! This morning the Commander in Chief took me for a lesson (directing from the passenger seat) in Early Saturday Morning Bargain Shopping.

Colne Lidl then Aldi followed by a trip to Nelson (much against my better judgement) and a lesson on where to park near to Pendle Rise to get to the shop that sells sugar free toffees then finally to Home Bargains. I had a list for each shop and managed to find all but 2 items. I think i passed the test but what happened to that freedom and independence i thought I had regained?

Is that something Col usually does on his own on Saturday mornings?

My husband was hanging around the kitchen yesterday. When he is bored, he is like a blow fly trapped in a bottle. I was making myself a sandwich and he told me I wasn’t doing it in the correct order...the layers were all wrong.
I just turned the pointy end of my knife in his direction and said “Find something to do please!”.

Sounds like a fun morning Wendy!
Yesterday I took advantage of the sunny dry weather, even though it was freezing, to cut my oak baseboard and mould the edges with the Router. I needed the daylight to do such a messy job outside and clear up. Good job I did because the weather has moved faster than the forecasters and this morning instead of the dry bright day they have been forecasting for a few days now, we have a mild damp morning and fog and drizzle in the forecast.
I shall sand and oil the baseboard and am then ready for transferring the engine to it and starting the final build and fitting. China's favourite part!
Full walk in prospect as there should be little or no ice underfoot.

I missed it yesterday but when I had a look at the base I had a problem.
The oak has bowed because of being stored in the damp shed in the yard. I have sanded it and put it on the radiator in the hall and brought the rest of the oak inside. It will soon straighten itself out. The oak stays indoors from now on!
Now for a walk and some fresh air and breakfast. Then on with the day.

Morning
I love those snowy photos Wendy. Its hard to believe that all around us there is snow and we have hardly any. In fact I think it has all gone this morning
Yesterdays beautiful dawn had changed to a dull, damp foggy day before we retuned from Bacup. Today promises to be the same. As expected it had snowed in Bacup and the side streets were treacherous, but my new walking boots passed their test on comfort. Next time we do a short walk I shall wear them. I then spent most of the day working on my family history program. I find it incredibly complicated compared to the one we had which unfortunately no longer runs on the present windows set up and has not been updated. I shall continue with that today as I really want to become fully familiar with it.
I had an exciting day genealogically wise. I had been doing some research for a friend of my sisters. Her quest was to know more about her grandmother as she knew a lot about her grandfathers family. Deep into the research I suspected second cousins had married and at almost the same time she sent me a message to say the thought her grandparents were distantly related. I found a reference for the certificate for what I thought was the marriage and sent for it. The certificate arrived yesterday. I was right. They were second cousins. Mission completed. Now I am trying to put all the newspaper articles etc that I found into the family tree program so it will produce a nicely illustrated report.
I have no yoga today as Mandy's classes have not restarted after Christmas. I am not sure they will but hope they do. I think she is sort of freelance as she lives in Stockport and hasn’t done classes at the studio since she moved there. She was trying to decorate through the house having moved. So no yoga leaves me with a whole foggy day to fill. As I said I have my computer program to sort, I also have the ironing and my unfinished sewing projects so I am sure I will be busy
Have a good day everyone, stay safe

It's not going to grow up to be anything until it straightens out. I had a look last night, it's improving but now a crack is opening up. I should have looked more carefully and cut the other end of the board. I'll make a decision about it this morning.

I've had another look at the base and made an executive decision. I shall leave it until tomorrow and have another look then. The choice then could be to cut another one from the stock as that is straighter than this piece which I cut off the wrong end. A day off won't do me any harm at all!
