Fireworks again last night!
My 'new' trousers which I can now wear because I have lost weight are purple when you get out into daylight! (They look dark brown in the house). He decided they are still good trousers.

Interesting comment on rail fares which have risen again above inflation this morning. For the cost of 100 miles travel by rail in Britain you can get over 300 miles in France and over 700 miles in Italy. It is increasingly being described as a tax on work.....

That council's are still cutting frontline services saying they have no money when there are millions sat in the bank. Eileen

Eileen, at least let's hope that this time they've got the millions sitting in a British bank (remember the Icelandic bank fiasco when the councils left their money in even though the newspapers had been warning of the danger for ages?)

Eileen, there was a thorough investigation into this when Eric Pickles raised the matter and the councils proved to the Treasury's satisfaction that they had to hold cash reserves for ongoing, regular commitments I don't think there is a gold mine there.
The gradual rise in the number of 'household names' arrested under operation Yewtree on suspicion of sexual offences. Not all connected with Savile and none of them proven as yet but there are some very worried people out there. One supposes that the police are fairly sure of their ground before charging, I certainly hope this is the case.

This government manages to wind me up every day. Today one minister says the winter fuel payment to pensioners should be means tested. Pensioners have worked most of their lives, paid their taxes and NHI payments - yet they are quite happy to pay benefits to foreigners who send some of the money out of the country and in foreign aid to countries who do not need it.

The issue is why your grandchildren should have to pay in perpetuity

Every benefit should be means tested.

A neighbour of mine put it just right on the subject of benefits "You shouldn't be able to dip your hand into the pot until you have put something into it". Most of today's elderly people have contributed all of their lives to that pot and have earned the right to a share should they need it. Nor am I happy about the way the elderly are put forward as being part of the problem concerning benefits, they built this country up after two devastating wars. People coming into this country should be able to fund their own existence for a period of time at least, and not expect handouts straight away, and if they are going to produce babies at an industrial level, they should fund it themselves. The first gets help, the second gets half, and after that, your on your own!

I've been trying to find specific details (maps, coordinates, plans etc) for where this mobile home park planning app actually is. Can you shed any light on this or poin me in the right direction.

Speed of our journey to Stratford and back today. 3 hours on the way down with a half hour stop and 2 hours 20 on the way back. Dry all the way and traffic flowing as it should.

On the way back, just approaching the Charnock Richard services I had to do to a bit of evasion from the third lane when the car in front of me ran two wheels onto the central reservation. I was far enough behind to get out of the way. Kicked up a lot of dust and the guy did well not to loose it into the barrier I think it took a tyre out but I could see in my rear view mirror that he made it OK to the hard shoulder just in time to limp into the services.

Ian, he was lucky as I was when it happened to me. It sucks you in to the barrier, cost me a front wing and a bent front wheel! By the way, it was in heavy snow, I hadn't fallen asleep!

If you read the report on the marina development, it shows that the Council (via West Craven Area Committee) had no legal grounds on which to turn down the application.

Nothing to do with whether the representative of the Secretary of State knows best.

The officer only applied the statutes as pertain within Pendle Council planning policy

Plus, because the council lost the case it will have to pay costs to the applicant. Somehow I doubt that the Councillors who refused it (in spite of the officers recommendation to approve) will be liable. The bill will land at the feet of the rate payer for both council & applicant

That is what annoys me the most.
