Home again now having met his surgical team. His operation will be happening sometime towards the end of March and will be a major event, two operations in one as part of his stomach will need to be removed as well as a section of his oesophagus. It's very scary and he will be in hospital for 10 to 14 days. They seem very confident that it will be successful given Col's level of health and fitness. He now has time to build up his strength and weight again.
They will make sure he gets his Covid jab in good time.

Just had a read up on the Cancer Research website, the outcome all sounds very positive Wendy.

Yes it is positive and I think Col was heartened to have a face to face consultation with the team who will be dealing with him. Up till now it has all been phone calls, apart from the chemo nurses and pharmacists of course so he feels more confident and supported. The surgeon, Paul Manby, was friendly and approachable and obviously knew everything about Cols journey over the last few months.

All good news Wendy. I'll bet the fact he drove there and back by himself also gave him a boost!
Today will be the last of my easy days, all I intend to do is swap bench grinders in the shed. It's cold out there and the main aim this week is keeping warm. It looks as though next Sunday will be the first day we get to above freezing. -8C here at the moment....

Morning
This sounds positive and reassuring Wendy, if a little scary. Fingers crossed for a healthy outcome
This morning is, like last evening was , very light. A sign of better things to come. We have about an inch of snow with more to come I am sure. It is THIS morning that the boiler is to be serviced , not yesterday, but at least we have emptied the airing cupboard already !
Yesterday I finished Erins dress, finished my oil painting on winter trees and finished the third assessment of the Celts course. I really do like this course. It is very well written and presented.
So today with lots of odd things finished and certainly no chance of a walk, I need to get my head in gear as to what i shall do. Our latest jigsaw is an aerial view of Barcelona and I put it on the same level as the all white jigsaw. I shall no doubt attempt to do some of that but otherwise I shall be rooting through my fabric and patterns to see what I can make. Its pilates and yoga this evening. I have some letters to write to the grandchildren too
Have a good day everyone

I have an idea that Sue is going to post at the same time as me. I have been in the shed for an hour. Spot the difference!
The 5" grinder doesn't vibrate and will probably be big enough. If it isn't I shall have to have a rethink.
There you are! I told you. No jigsaw of Barcelona here Sue but an improvement in the shed. Have a good day.

All sounds positive Wendy. I know from experience that the waiting between diagnosis and actually seeing the fixing team can be very stressful. I was the same with my consultant and I am glad that Colin feels the same with his. It does sound scary but don't forget that for his surgical team it is not the first time they have done the procedure. Sounds like he is in good hands.
One of my radio amateur friends is two years the other side of the same diagnosis and procedure and is doing well. Cols general fitness will hold him in good stead. Get him fed up now Wendy and ready for the next stage.

Ha ha , Stanley, you were right. Just three minutes apart. We have walked, its been intermittent sun and snow showers all day. We went to the post box to post the letters and did an urban circuit. That makes us 4.5 miles to Dover on our virtual walk. I am now washing fabric ready for some sewing in the coming week or so

If all goes well I shall be making some muck in the shed. We'll see, it's very cold out there!
Looks as though us crumblies might be in line for another cold weather payment. One of the few advantages of age.

Morning
Its a beautiful dawn, clear sky, dry, relatively snow free, and very very cold. This morning I shall be ironing the fabric I washed yesterday and debating which patterns I shall cut out. I bought some nice stretch cotton fabric in the sale which I thought would be appropriate for a pilates top, as it has the days of the week written all over it, then there is some grey denim for a pair of jeans , and a beautiful piece of patterned cotton lawn for a cotton shirt or top. What to make first will be the dilemma.
Yesterday I made a little progress with the jigsaw in the afternoon after our walk , and spent some time reading chapter 4 on the Celts, so I have plenty to keep me occupied today, sewing, jigsaw, assessment and possibly walk. We are keen to see what happens when we virtually arrive at Dover!
Have a good if very cold day everyone,

I had my vaccination soon after 9am yesterday in Colne and, as others have reported, it was a smooth, well organised operation. By 8pm last night I was aching all over and shivery, but still had to go out into the barn to feed and water the ponies as well as picking up droppings and straightening the beds. Their drinkers and the taps in the barn are frozen solid so buckets had to be filled in the house. I felt dreadful but more than anything I was worried that I wouldn't be fit to look after everything today! By 9pm I was tucked up in bed having taken a couple of paracetamol and I took a couple more in the early hours when I woke up with a headache. This morning I'm fine except for a slightly sore arm.

Exactly the experience Mick and I had Wendy. If you follow our trajectory you'll be feeling a lot better during today. Take it easy if you can...... Although the frost makes it difficult. Could be even colder tonight Love.....
I've been making blue chips this morning, half way through the next stage in shaping the carronades.

You'll realise Wendy when it goes away, hopefully today, that the worst bit was the depression. That's what it was with me and Susan. Good luck with it!

I hope Wendy is back on form today.....
I shall be doing an hour in the shed then my weekly Co-op shop as soon as they open. I did veggie and fruit shopping yesterday. After that I am cruising, getting second sleep in, reading and keeping warm.

Morning
Another cold crisp day, with the dawn sky colouring up gently. Looks like another day like yesterday. We managed a short walk but it was treacherous under foot along the old railway bridle way so we did a loop back along the main road keeping to the pavements that were clear. We are now just 2.5 miles from Dover on our virtual walk . The rest of the day was sewing , jigsaw and assessment 4 on the Celts. Today will be the same , although I do have pilates at 10.00am.
Have a good day everyone

I'm fine thank you, just a bit tired at the end of the day but that's normal, especially in this bitterly cold weather which makes my outside jobs twice as difficult!
We bought a cheap slide scanner from Lidl last week and yesterday I started digitizing some old slides of Dad's that I kept when I cleared Mum's house. Great fun!
This is Sue, my friend from college and I in the back garden of Mum and Dad's bungalow in Woodlesford. We shared a room in digs at a vicarage in Doncaster for 2 years. This would have been 1969 and I would still have been 18. There was a blue South Yorkshire double decker bus that we could catch in Doncaster which came through Woodlesford on its way to Leeds so weekends at home were a good break from college.

No need to worry about you two today then. Aren't old pics great! I love going for a root in my archive, I always find something!
I think this pic tells you how I spent my hour in the shed this morning. All three carronades at the same stage.....
Now for my breakfast and second sleep. Just remembered, it's Melvyn Bragg and in our time this morning. They are doing the Rosetta Stone this morning.

Well here I am, aged 14...back when I believed in the world. Had recently started living with my 5th set of foster parents. ( they didn’t work out. Got an official message from them about 30 years ago stating I must not challenge their estate or expect to benefit...)
This was before I married, stumbled through Nursing, became a Mum, divorced, became a single mum with two jobs, remarried, became a step-mum of three, became a foster parent, etc.
I know where I got my wrinkles...

Great photo Wendy
Here’s one of my girlfriend and I , about 73/74.
We had been shopping and bought Beret’s for ourselves. A Happy Moment In Time. We are in touch every couple of weeks.
