Ah! The Chief engineer got there! Yes Gloria, patent belt fastenings, very dangerous when they got worn, notice how the edge is turned up, that could grab you if you were reaching through the belt.

Can't understand why it has a polished top surface. It looks as though it poked up through a floor that has been sanded smooth. So a bore hole into a mill that was later replaced and the space/room made into an office.

New mystery object, free gift received today. Taken in my kitchen and not very clear, ruler is marked in cm/mm and sweet chestnut for size comparison.
