Three vary small lamb chops plus eggs on a butty for dinner. Weighed myself later and found I have put half a stone on! Two pears, a knob of cheese and some apples for tea!

Half a pizza X 2 for dinner and tea. One of the Co-op's best quality but reduced price. Added more tomato and cheese and it was a nice change. Loaf in the machine so there is plenty of bread tonight and for next few days.

Bugger the weight! Had a massive bacon and egg butty for dinner and a more conservative bowl of the veggie stew I froze last week for tea. I suspect I'll be doing the same today. Feeling wonderful! (Memo to self, must be careful of spitting fat when frying now I am not wearing glasses inside the house!)

Liz, you are right! I have a lot to be happy about. Great support from daughter Susan in Earby. She takes me to appointment with consultant to assess the right eye on Tuesday next week. Flue jab tomorrow. Diabetes clinic next week, the NHS is working overtime for me. On top of that I'm as fit as a butcher's dog. Egg and Bacon butty today and stew for tea again. And for icing on the cake, see 'What attracted your attention today', so nice when you get mail from an unexpected quarter telling you that you are the best thing since sliced bread.....

Had cicken in a white wine sauce, roasties & cauli last night - fish & chips from the chippy tonight - give hubby a break from cooking. I can manage preparation but not the lifting of pans etc .

Sounds like an effective team Moh if judged by the results. Who washes up?
Pressed beef butty for dinner, haslet ditto for tea, both on an almost out of date loaf Kath gave me.

Bought in tortelini with a sauce that was added cold, all doubts disappeared when I tasted it, very nice. A quick read of the contents showed it was healthy.

Its individual steak pie night again, with chips and cauliflower florets, plus lashings of onion gravy, the pies are just awaiting the suet crust pastry lids, pastry made 4 hours ago. Tomorrow it will be a turkey joint with crispy roast spuds, chopped carrot and swede, Sprouts, pigs in waistcoats and apple sauce, and oh yes, the rest of the onion gravy. No pudding though, as there will not be room for it.

Sally's birthday tomorrow so family is coming round for tea. Inspired by our recent holiday in Zakynthos it will have a Greek theme. To this end I have two pots of Lamb Kleftico slow cooking in the oven, the aroma of Oregano, Lemon and Garlic is starting to pervade the kitchen. I got a shoulder of Lamb from my butcher Steve who took it off the bone for me and divided it up into nice chunks. There will be more than enough for the four meat eaters who will be here. Jack and his girlfriend Victoria love Lamb as I do. My daughter Carla is not partial so I am making her Lemon, Garlic, Chicken with potatoes. Sally has a vegetarian Mousaka prepared and ready to go in the oven. I am making roast waxy potato wedges done in olive oil and a little black pepper to go with any of the dishes on offer.

Starters of home made Humus a Tzatziki will be complimented by my hand made Pita breads which I will be making this afternoon. I need to time these so that they are warm out of the oven when we start. I got some fresh yeast from the bakery at the supermarket the other day. I will have to start the dough at about 3 pm to allow time for proving and knocking back. I'll have to make them in batches as they are tray baked in a very hot oven. The mains are in the bottom oven which is just ticking over so I will do the bread in the top oven. I can only get about three on the tray at one time but they only take just over 5 minutes to bake each batch.

We have run out of oven space at the right temperature to make the planned pastry based Baklava's for afters but we do have a fall back if anyone wants a pudding.

Saw a smoked gammon end in the Co-op yesterday when I went for the milk. £3 for 600g, a third of the price of bacon so I got it and had two spendid bacon butties, one at dinner time and one for tea. (Plenty of fruit as well Maz and Cath!)

A nice basket of edible Fungi gathered this morning, and all day to think how I will cook it. You have to be out early these days to compete with the large numbers of people engaged in the same. A few years back I could sit on a small hill and scan the surrounding fields for Puffballs, bur now all I see is mushroom gatherers.

The fungi became a risotto, very nice, a few field and horse mushrooms have been saved to cook with bacon for a nice butty tomorrow.

Cath gave me an out of date wholemeal loaf and I had this as Haslet butties with olives X 2 for dinner and tea, I like haslet, cheap, tasty and just as nourishing as best steak. Lots to be said for offal! So I fed myself well for about £2 for the day. Economy is the household mint!

Stewed beef butty for dinner. Had some spuds that needed cooking so I made mash, Grilled some sausages and put them in a casserole with peas and baked beans. When it was cooked thoroughly I put the mash on top and made three meals out of it. First was for tea, the other two will keep me going today. Plenty of fruit as well Maz and Cathy!
