Peter and Janet are having a rest from us this week.....
How superb my coffee tastes this morning. Some days I get the brewing just right and the result is breathtaking!

It attracted my attention today that I have booked a weeks holiday in Bath starting next Saturday and I had forgotten that I have two tickets to see Andy Fairweather Low and his band at Blackburn Empire on the Saturday I set off..! :guitarist: (16th October at 19.30) It would have been the 12th time I had seen his show – he normally plays Darwen Library Theatre each year when he’s not backing Eric Clapton on tour.

So…. if anyone fancies a great night out with some great guitar work there are two tickets going free to any of you who want them. I have the tickets printed off here or I could send them by email for you to print yourselves.

Oooh! I do like a bit of good music. Me and P would love to go. I'll send you a message.

My first thoughts were with Kev, Wendy or Ian as I know that you all love good music so I'm pleased that Kev has accepted the tickets. I will have to be content with watching Andy's live DVD on Saturday night (which was filmed in Darwen in 2009 - you can see the back of my head on the front row..!) :biggrin2:

I hadn't thought about Andy Fairweather Low being a guitar player until last week when I watched the Concert for George on Sky Arts and there he was.

Now he is one of the most sought after session guitarists and plays many different guitars and styles. He has toured with Eric Clapton many times and I have seen him at numerous Roger Waters (of Pink Floyd fame) concerts playing his black Stratocaster. He also featured on one of Kate Bush's recent albums.

There is a great article about him in Guitar Magazine

See THIS BBC account of the report from the committee that has been looking into Covid19 and how we tackled it. I haven't of course read all 15r0 pages of it but hope it triggers off a wider enquiry into what we know went wrong starting with the ignoring of the recommendations (was it four years ago) about a possible MERS pandemic. My fear is that the Tories will try to use this as a substitute for a proper investigative process into murkier matters.

The backs of my legs are telling me I did something out of the usual run of things yesterday. All that bending and stretching. I suppose it was good for me but I shall take note and do a bit less this morning!
See THIS BBC report of the statement issued by the Environment Agency, 'Adapt or Die!'. No doubt part of the run up to the climate conference in Glasgow but a stark warning nevertheless. They've left it a bit late.....

The fact that the slow down in supply chains is global. This morning the US announced extra hours at Long Beach and Los Angeles, the two biggest ports in the USA. Even so Joe Biden says that there will be shortages and a lack of choice at Xmas. He's being honest. Our lot are still refusing to admit that there is a serious problem despite Maersk saying they are not sending their container ships to Felixstowe to off load, they are doing it at continental ports and forwarding UK boxes from there either on smaller ships or road transport. Work out the consequences of that for yourself.
PS. 'Just in Time' operation is looking a bit sick! Apply the same restrictions to time sensitive food imports.... (Remember we import over 60% of our food and that's even higher at Xmas.)

I forgot to mention but last Saturday my eldest daughter Margaret was 60 years old. If anyone had told me all those years ago that I would see her reach this age I wouldn't have believed them. There are some advantages in old age.... :biggrin2:

They'll only snag once it's completed, I did notice things like missing tarmac at one of the access ramps but thought this to still be a work in progress. There may be more access ramps like this (only saw one affected) so a tarmac wagon my be in the cards to do them all at the same time. The new flags looked nice on the Newtown footpaths.
