Our remembrance service is on Sunday afternoon on the Town Square and will be followed by the wreath laying at the memorial.
The cemetery in the next town to us has the graves of 15 British fliers who lost their lives during training for WW2.
We couldn't make it there today as my wife had an appointment for the doctors which had already been postponed once.

I'm not seeing any posts from Tripps. As far as I know he is still getting his broadband from Plusnet. I mentioned on the Computers thread a couple of days ago that the company has hit a major server problem. We lost connection with the email server but it's back in action for us today. However, I see from the web that a lot of Plusnet customers are still disconnected and some claim they aren't getting the web server. Perhaps Tripps is suffering loss of his broadband?

I did lose the web for a few hours, but all is well now.

My son attracted my attention yesterday. I needed to collect something from him, so as I was in Colne for my flu vaccination I suggested that I pop round to his house for it. I also said that I wouldn't go inside as I wasn't giving him the usual 3 day warning period to allow some clearing up before a visit.
When I arrived outside the house he came out to hand over his new debit card (I look after his money...) with a very glum expression on his face so I asked what was wrong.
The house is your typical 2 up 2 down with the outside door opening into the front room and I think he had shut the internal door through to the kitchen so I couldn't see what a state it was in. The problem was that the latched door handle had broken leaving the door tight shut, cutting him off from everything but his phone and car keys! He couldn't get in by the yard door because the key was in the lock inside.
The last thing Craig and I ever want is for Colin to have to be called when the house is like a tip, he put a year of evenings and weekends into gutting that house and making it into a lovely little home....he finds it hard to cope with the state it gets into. Anyway, Craig was convinced that he could unscrew the handle and all would be well so after borrowing a screwdriver from next door (his was in the kitchen) I left him to it with strict instructions to keep me updated.
When I reported back to Col he knew instantly that the problem wouldn't be solved with a screwdriver and started to stress that the door (stripped pine with a lovely stained glass panel) would get wrecked. I persuaded him to wait until I heard back from Craig which took an anxiety filled couple of hours. He remained locked out of his kitchen and I had to release the angry lion with steam coming from his ears and nostrils with a plea to just do the job and not to look at anything but the door! Off he shot with an angle grinder and was back home purring like a pussycat 30 minutes later, well pleased with himself. It normally takes him a couple of days to recover from the anger and frustration he feels at Craig's total lack of care for the house, but this time he was OK! Phew!! I aged a couple of years worrying about nothing.

There are times when kids can make you wonder why you bothered. I am very lucky in this respect but that doesn't mean I can't recognise what you describe. I would be the same as Col if I had to deal with that but thank god I haven't got to. When they're young you look forward to the day they leave home and become independent. Then we find out that that isn't how it works. You both have my total understanding. Give Col my best please.....

I accepted years ago that Craig is who he is, not who we would like him to be. Col can't do that and is unforgiving so a pattern has developed over the years of Craig hiding problems until they become too big because he doesn't want to face Col with them. I'm always somewhere in the middle trying to keep things peaceful! My regular house inspections have been impossible through Covid times, so I must get back to them!

A video call with Margaret in Perth WA. I can never get over the miracle of a free call on Whatsapp to someone on the other side of the world! I can remember booking calls and paying £1 a minute for the privilege.

Ambulance chiefs are expected to report that patients are dying in ambulances parked outside A&E. Getting its defence in early the government says it has given the ambulance services an extra £65million completely missing the point and demonstrating that everything is judged by money. Can't the stupid sods realise that what matters is the death toll directly attributable to underfunding the NHS over many years.
Over to you Ken, rip 'em to shreds!

I think I related on OG how Mrs Tiz bought a new wheelie basket from Argos and when we unwrapped it found it was dirty and mouldy. We returned it and got our money back. Good news. Mrs Tiz got a Hoppa one today from a local family run Taunton store called Hatcher's. It was better and cheaper! :cool4:

I have packaged my item and posted it but Ebay wouldn't let me mark it as dispatched using the computer but it did on my phone, weird!

"It was better and cheaper!"
Nice one Janet! I find that so often here in Barlick. Surprisingly cheap things in the local small shops when compared with the Cathedral of Choice.
Just heard the news that Stockport County have won a match five nil. Some mistake surely!

This guy goes for a ten minute walk/ ride with his little dog, around Puerto de la Cruz in the North of Tenerife, every day. I go with him most days. Today he is in La Paz - the part of the town we used to stay in when we visited on holiday. Good to see my favourite cafe Tiroler Alm is still in business - but a bit pricier now.

If climbing up Weets in a gale is your thing - best of luck. This is mine. . . .

Once of a day I had to be outside whatever the weather David, and that was before cheap practical waterproofs were available. So I had to get used to the 'Gale on Weets' syndrome. Occasionally it was your Tenerife weather but only once in a blue moon!
I remember a bloke near the pub at East Marton once telling me on a beautiful summer day that my job picking milk up was wonderful. I told him to come back in November and have another look.

Later, is anyone keeping up with the news of further racism and its affect on the real world?

Postman Pat.
This is the old ferry landing on the Rhu peninsula at Arisaig. There is a ferryman's cottage that used to be let out in the summer months and local legend has it that John Cunliffe, the man who wrote the series, first conceived the character while staying there one summer and that Padraig the postman is based on the man who was the local postie. My information comes from my friends Angela and Alan who kept The Old Library guest house in Arisaig.
I should add that I have see similar claims for other locations.... :biggrin2:
