See
THIS for your daily dose of stupidity. A car has been driven into a parade in Waukesha.....
Then look at the protests against Covid19 measures in Europe.
Than go back to bed and put your head under the covers.
Later..... I tripped over this in the archive. North Barlick in 2016.

I just had a telephone call from Major Hairulnizam Baharudin RMAF. He gave me some welcome news. I've been waiting for it for two and a half years so best not jump the gun, but I think this time it's real. I'll tell you about it next week,- or maybe even sooner.

That sounds cheerful David! Good! I hope it all turns out as you think.
As usual my first thought on waking is Jarndyce v. Jarndyce. No signs of movement yet....
On an entirely separate matter. My discovery that a file search in Data can be a good way of accessing images I tripped over this.
I can't remember the context or who wrote it.

I've just watched a food bank hand out in USA. A very smart SUV queuing for hours at the front of the line. When hand out began this grossly obese woman waddled out of her car to collect a box of goodies that I would have been proud to have in my cupboards. This waddling scrounger seemed to me to need less food not more. Meanwhile people die on the streets of USA cities. The food bank spokes woman said they were spending one million dollars a month. JUST MY OPINION.

Not good but hanging in there. Much improved and in remission if anything. It is hard to predict what is happening. I'm surprised I'm still here!

We are often our worst enemies when it comes to diagnosis Graham. On the whole I have found the best course is to keep away from the doctors and keep buggering on. (And avoid quack remedies!!) Not the best for everyone I agree but it seems to be suiting you and me....

Not the best advice I think. If I had applied that rule I would be dead! I should also be mentioned that you also would be in a lot worse state than you are now if you ignored the doctors.
Glad that you are stable at the moment Graham.

That story caught my attention because 50 years ago when I was doing my PhD in Liverpool I was one of a group of four students in a lab and one of my colleagues was West Indian. We four were great friends and all treated equally by each other and by everyone else there. We must have been ahead of the curve even then because our group was 25% `ethnic' In fact the lad who got most `ribbing' was a southerner from a posh background (who much later in life became a college principal)! In my science career I saw very little discrimination against women, coloured folk, gay people etc while within the science community although there was plenty to be seen outside it.
The figures claimed in that article surprise me. I doubt that the low proportion of `ethnic' people taken on as PhD students is because of discrimination by the academics - I think we've got to look for other reasons, such as kids being given the impression by parents that they'll never be able to be a scientist, or that science is not a good career.

What evidence do you have for that Ian?

Your own posts Stanley, without laser surgery you would be blind and then again without treatment for bladder cancer you may well not be here or in a considerably worse state. Let's not forget the bad pie botulism episode from long ago. I think the medics were involved in you surviving that as well. Plenty of other "war wounds" as you call them to cite but I think you should get the point.

News of a small crack in the ice field that is Jarndyce and Jarndyce. Not there yet but it's hopeful.
I made the oak plinth for the No. 9 Engine. It's a beautiful piece of oak....
Just a coat of linseed oil and than the excess wiped off. I don't think I've ever seen better grain......

The cost of a replacement alternator for the Yeti, all the energy saving features make it a fairly expensive item. My wallet is £320 lighter now.

The Shambles, York looks to have had a subtle HDR (high dynamic range) treatment, it's certainly not a 'single' image.

I need some advice... We were talking on a topic this morning about air fryers..... I have to report that we have had a trippian SPOOKY event. I was frying some chips and all the lights went off, the Tina Turner playlist stopped and I reaLISED A FUSE HAD TRIPPED. i SORTED THAT AND THEN REALISED THAT THE FRYER WASN'T FRYING, IT WAS COOLING DOWN. oBVIOUS THAT THE ELEMENT HAD BLOWN. (bugger caps lock....)
I didn't bother to investigate, I just binned the fryer, it doesn't owe me anything.
So now I need another fryer. Do I get another deep fat fryer or get one of the next generation air fryers?
All advice gratefully received.

We have an air fryer but we don't cook chips in it so can't advise on that! It's basically a very small fan oven and cooks things quickly and efficiently.

I'd need to know more about the element - since the Halogen ones don't last long enough for me. My slow cooker is still going after many years. They seem to cost from £30
Compact air fryer Argosto £100&plenty depending on whether its clockwork or digital , and how much the brand is advertised. I would think that if you're a long slow man, and just like the occasional dripping cooked chip then a deep fat fryer might be best.
Do your own research though.

This is ours, I was furious when Col bought it just before he started treatment last year and I insisted it stayed under the stairs when it wasn't in use. It seems to have gained a permanent place now.

Thanks for the advice. What I am hearing is that air fryers are not necessarily the best for chips.
I think you've hit the nail on the head David, stick to long slow cooking in my cast iron ware and the slow cooker and have a deep fat fryer on hand for the serious veggie frying..... And yes I'll do a bit more research....
