That brings back a memory of walking along the seafront at Blackpool, on a night out with a group of people who were on a civil service course with me learning about retirement pensions (married women's half test etc). It was January 1974 and I was wearing my favourite turquoise cheesecloth top and long Indian Cotton skirt with leather flip flop sandals.... no coat but didn't feel the cold I was young!
It was a lovely day yesterday but I felt so lousy with this cold that I spent as little time as possible outside, I couldn't get warm despite thermals and layers of clothing.....I'm Old!

I know the feeling Wendy. That's why I invested in two of the thickest long sleeved Damart vests. Good move! They are very warm and comforting. Looking back though I was always a fan of warm vests in winter. I used to favour Chilprufe wool vests and even had a pair of wool combinations at one time. Early mornings in winter in wagons with no heating when you were in effect not physically active could be freezing cold!

Ha! Wendy! When I first met my second husband he wanted to drape me in Cheesecloth. ( it wasn’t gonna happen!)
I mean - WE HAPPENED - minus the cheesecloth and Indian cotton...

Spooky.....I have had 3 reasons to be reminded of my brief civil service career today. First one here concerning chilly Blackpool weather, then a young friend on Facebook saying it might be a bit dreich in Blackpool at this time of year to explore her new OS map of the area. Third reason on my school Facebook page with talk of civil service careers.

You're right Wendy it was a wonderful day. I see in Scotland in the far NW they had 16.8C, an all time record.
At 20:00 it was breezy, broken cloud and cooler. This morning it is calm, clear and colder but no frost. The glass is down on 1022mb. The forecast is for a dry, bright sunny day until this afternoon when cloud will come in. The constant SW wind is light until the cloud comes in and then strengthens a bit. The high is 7C and the low 2C. The wind chill could be as much as -3C when the wind rises. Despite the sun it will feel cold all day. I noticed last night that daylight lasted a tiny bit longer, the days are lengthening slowly. Yippee!
The next Full Moon is January 10.
06:20. A good walk under a clear sky, very little wind but what there is is cold! Mist forming in the bottoms like Valley Gardens and Eastwood Bottoms. Very promising and so different from what Maz and Cathy are looking at.

We are still in Catastrophic Total Fire Ban Rating.
We have 0% chance of rain for the next week at least, but tomorrow our temp goes from 40C down to 24C, and hopefully no more dry lightning strikes. It seems like Australia is burning.

That wind was very cold yesterday afternoon. Same at 20:00 but dry. First thing this morning cold under a clear starry sky. The glass is up on 1027mb. The forecast gives us another dry bright day. The constant light wind is easterly giving a high of 5C and a low of 1C with a -3C wind chill. It will feel very cold all day. Ideal for revellers tonight, I shall be in bed!
06:10. Back from a good walk under light broken cloud, calm and a sharp frost. It is slippy underfoot and was a lot worse as we came back through the Pioneer Car Park than when we went out so watch your step!
Otherwise quiet. I note that the Artisan Baker has delivered so they will be open. Barlic Bites is open today as well so if you fancy a breakfast on a butty, that's the place to go!

Yesterday was another good day and at nightfall the sky was clear as a bell. At 20:00 it was cold and dry but beginning to cloud over. This morning first thing it was calm, dry overcast and no frost. This hasn't changed. The glass is down a fraction on 1025mb. The forecast is for a dry day, starting bright but then clouding over. The wind is constant and SW giving a high of 4C and a low of 3C with a -3C wind chill most of the day.
06:10. A very acceptable walk. Calm, dry, milder and overcast. All quiet except for a police van with flashing blue lights coming down Station Road and turning towards Kelbrook. Siren on at the lights, they were in a hurry to get somewhere!

I hesitate to say it's boring but yesterday was another good dry day but with a cold wind. At 20:00 it was dry, a light breeze and breaking cloud. First thing this morning it was the same but calm with a clear sky. I've just had a look and it hasn't changed. The glass down on 1014mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with rain coming in at nightfall. The constant SW wind will soon rise and become moderate all day with significant gusts. The high will be 8C and the low 3C with a wind chill of as much as -5C in the strongest winds. The outlook is brighter tomorrow and then a wetter picture seems to be emerging.
06:05. Back from a surprisingly cold walk. The wind is rising, not surprising if you take note of the Shipping Forecast, lots of severe gale 9 warnings. Still clear when we went out but large masses of cloud are coming in from the south, otherwise dry and acceptable.

41C. Doing as little as possible and it is best not to annoy each other this weather. We went for our walk early...bushfire smoke still about and the horizons look a little hazy.

Yesterday was dry but a very cold wind. The rain came in but not a lot of it. At 20:00 we had a light breeze, broken cloud and it was dry. First thing this morning we have light rain but very little wind. The glass is down on 1005mb but steady. The forecast is for a dry day overall. This rain will cease and we will have broken cloud with sunny intervals. The moderate wind is NW until mid morning then backs to West giving a high of 5C and a low of 4C. There will be a -4C wind chill all day which translates to a perceived temperature of about freezing point all day so wrap up warm. The outlook for the next week is warmer and more rain.
06:30. Back from a later walk so I could get the BET in Town Square as we came back, no butcher's this morning.
The forecast was accurate, the walk was dry, the wind has not yet got up and the sky is clearing, stars visible. The forecast of a brighter day is looking good. Apart from that the town slowly wakes up after the holiday but I suppose Monday will see business as usual.

We had a brighter dry day yesterday but very cold in the wind. By 20:00 we had thin broken cloud, the moon was just visible, a light breeze and it was dry and cold. This morning it was the same and there has been no change. The glass has risen to a shade under 1025mb and is still rising slowly. The forecast is for a dry and overcast day. The constant west wind is fresh and gives a high of 7C and a low of 6C tempered by a -4C wind chill in the strongest winds. Not surprising that the message is wrap up warm and if you have to stand about, get out of the wind. The outlook is for similar weather next week.
06:25. We are back after a dry walk if you discount the very light shower as we started our walk, not enough to wet the road so I'm not counting that. There is a stiff wind and if you are exposed to it it is cold, but overall, not a bad walk. I have had much worse at this time of year.

Apart from a few spells of very light rain it was dry but very cold in the wind. At 20:00 it was dry, a light cold breeze and the moon appearing through gaps in very fast moving ragged cloud. Very similar first thing this morning apart from it being calmer and evidence of a recent light shower. I've just popped out and it is the same but drying up. The glass is rock steady on 1026mb. The forecast is not inspiring. Heavy overcast and spells of light rain throughout the day. The constant SW wind is moderate and gusty giving a high of 8C and a low of 6C with a -4C wind chill all day. Like yesterday it will be very gloomy at times. The outlook says we have a chance of a sunny day on Friday but apart from that more of the same...
06:15. A quiet walk except for seeing Ric Starkey setting off for work on his bike. The wind is rising, if you are in it it's cold! Very light spatters of rain on the wind, not enough to wet the Crombie. This could be the picture for the rest of the day, acceptable but by no means cheerful.

Isn't it nice to have some cool weather again? We even had a little bit of rain this morning.

I heard a NSW fire chief this morning saying that they would take advantage of this lull in the hot weather to do some back-burning to contain existing fires. Good luck to them.

There are so many exhausted folk, pushed to their limits of endurance in Australia at the moment. Time and time again, we see folk reduced to blubbering masses from the simple touch/hug of another human being.

We are getting terrible images here Maz and no relief in sight...... Let's not complain about Barlick weather!
Yesterday it seemed to drizzle all day and never really got light. At 20:00 we had a breeze, ragged cloud and just about dry. Same first thing this morning. Just popped outside and it is drying up. The glass is down on 1016mb and falling. The forecast is for it to be dry and overcast until around 13:00 then rain for a while. The constant westerly wind is moderate with strong gusts. It gives a high of 8C and low of 4C with a wind chill of as much as -5C in the strongest gusts. The outlook has changed to similar weather to this for the next week at least.
05:55. A very acceptable walk. Dry, mild, breezy and broken cloud. All the Christmas lights are out except for Mr Stephenson's blue Xmas tree which is still lit. One of the small emitters is laid on the ground in front of Osborne Terrace. The large emitters in the Town Square have gone since yesterday morning and the beds are planted with Spring bulbs... Impressive!

Comment on the radio this morning was that Spring is just round the corner. We are only yet a fortnight into Winter!

Spring around the corner? I wonder what they are on, it must be strong stuff. Just had our short walk and that wind is more NW than SW. Bitter!

Indeed, I haven't had my fun in the snow on Weets yet, plenty of time yet.

A very pleasant day here, if it were not for thick bushfire smoke from nearby Kangaroo Island.
