Some lovely pics...but am I right in thinking there's a lot colour tweeking going on here? It's so easy to set a camera to vivid or adjust the colours...

The FM transmitter that serves Barlick is showing faults on all services. Could this be Ian's solar flare?

Loved those Garden Photos Tize.
I wonder how many hours of setting up and waiting for just the right moment, it all takes.

I'm not a natural worrier but I woke early this morning with my head full of gas service contracts and couldn't get back to sleep so I got up early. I've read all the details but haven't come to a decision yet. £25 a month insurance for a 17 year old boiler could be a good deal. But then there is the increase in gas prices for me when I come off my fixed price deal at the end of April. I shouldn't have to be making decisions like this at my age!
I'd be glad to hear other's opinions....

I would be asking what would a new boiler installation cost by one of the local plumbers. The new boilers are more efficient and come with their own insurance cover. I would feel happier with a new unit rather than wondering when the old one is going to break down. It all depends on your financial position. Jarndyce V Jarndyce.

Can you re-new / extend your fixed price deal, for eg year by year, maintenance wise?

A new 'budget' boiler installation will cost between £1000 - £2000. Does your £300 a year maintenance plan include any additional costs? Excess for repairs/replacement?

Some good suggestions in those posts. I too would suggest getting a new replacement, if the piggy bank allows it. As others say, the new ones are more efficient. If you want to continue with a `£25 a month insurance for a 17 year old boiler' beware of clauses in the contract. I can imagine them wanting to have `get outs' when it's such an old boiler. Cunning wheezes!

You're right Peter, some good suggestions and yes, money is the problem. Jarndyce is in the hands of HMRC so no good looking in that direction. But what you have all said makes sense and gives me focus. Luckily I have three weeks before the service contract runs out.... I'm talking to Susan this afternoon and we might find a solution.
Thanks for the advice all of you.

I talked to Susan and we have a plan. You'll be glad to hear it includes ditching BG service which has deteriorated to a joke these days.
See
THIS BBC report of the incident yesterday where Sir Kier Starmer was mobbed by protesters. I find this very disturbing. Clear evidence of the damage that Johnson did when he made the Savile slur and has since refused to withdraw it. It reminds me of the consequences of Donald Trump's lies in the US.
See
THIS also. Laura Kuenssberg sees the same problem. This man Johnson is the one who has promised his backbenchers he can change and cited as evidence his changes in the Downing Street management structure but all that is useless if he can't even tell the truth and admit when he is wrong.
The man is a disgrace to Parliament. When does he go?

The initial reports about Kier Starmer being mobbed said that the protest was about his support for Covid vaccinations, nothing about Jimmy Saville. I suspect this incident is being used.

I think that's probably a well founded suspicion Wendy. Will it come out in the wash?

Wendy's right. A protest about covid was hijacked by professional troublemakers. They're what we used to call anarchists.

The interesting thing is that the media help the 'anarchists' by accepting the Saville connection because it stokes their current news agenda. There aren't enough journalists to go out and find real news because of funding cuts, they have to use what is handed to them on a platter by 'influencers'.

Just listened to George Eustice reassuring us that land put on the market by the policy of paying old farmers to retire would become available for new entrants to farming, he says it will be the young farmers. Has he missed the fact that big prices are being paid for land for carbon capture tree planting? They can pay far more than young farmers. The man is either a rogue or an idiot.

...and the big prices are also being paid by foreigners who simply want to invest in good land and have a slice of Britain - especially Chinese and Russians.

A man up a pole in my back garden. A new electric pole had been installed and this gang came this morning and hooked up the power lines to it.
It was quite interesting to watch actually, from the comfort of my sofa.
Note to self: I need to get out more often

I was sat waiting for Susan who was buying the fish and chips when I noticed this coat of arms on the wall in Frank Street facing into Town Square. It hasn't been up there long and I wondered if it's appearance was anything to do with a private enquiry I got asking what the origin was.
It's quite recent actually. It was designed by Jack Savage, the owner of the greengrocer's and fishmonger's shop in Church street when he was on the Town Council in the 1950s. He wrote a short history of Barlick and I think this was on the cover. It was used on the town boundary marker on Kelbrook New Road and has evidently been reproduced for the square, Jack would be very pleased!

The crash on Fernlea Avenue, right by the 'bookie watch' bench just after 7pm, looked to be fairly serious with one car on its roof.

Oh Dear, I missed the excitement! I have said for a long time that the post office corner is the most dangerous in Barlick. Especially for cars coming out of Wellhouse Road and turning right towards Skipton.

Road was shut from the Rainhall Road right down to Forresters Buildings, Station and Wellhouse Roads also cordoned off We had to do a rat run go round to escape the town last night to get to Colne.
We had a donation for Bosom Friends to collect at an event at Colne Legion Club.

I took particular note and they cleaned up well, there was no sign at all that anything had happened.
