What room/s are you decorating Nolic? Paint? Wallpaper?
Do we get to see pics?
I love decorating. Have a few things in mind in the near future. ( Son and brainless Labrador moving in for a few weeks, so I have delayed my plans until they leave, as it would be impossible working with "the pooch that follows me everywhere". )

Living room and its paint over old fashioned embossed wallpaper. Nothing special just a brighter coat and new gloss. Nolic

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Wouldn't that soak up a lot of paint?
We (in Oz) don't really understand the concept of painting over wallpaper. We often see it in 60 minute make-over and such shows. We always strip the wallpaper, and any backing paper, entirely off.
Are you worried the plaster will come away?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Point taken.
We don't appreciate age here. We have stayed in all sorts of old and historic buildings whilst in UK on holiday. Stayed in one thatched cottage in Kent mentioned in the Doomsday Book. I was fine, but hubby cracked his head on the lintels so often he hated the place. Stayed in other places where it was impossible to stand upright in the bedroom and one had to 'crab-walk' sideways to get about. We have had staircases that you can only climb on all fours ( no, it wasn't the wine!). I get the concept of old houses.
That one at Barrowford was haunted.
Guess I would be leaving the paper on too...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
The really difficult paper to deal with is Anaglypta, a heavily embossed wall covering that is closer to thin lino than paper, often used on stairs and in halls as a hard-wearing covering for the lower half of the wall. Getting that off was like major surgery and the gloss surface defied water-based pains.
Not impressed by the new layout of the Barlick and Earby Times but times are hard and best thing is to accept it. The staff don't like it either but the uncomfortable truth is that local papers are in their death throes.
Today I shall be watching F1 qualifying at dinnertime.

Going to Merrit and Fryer at Skipton to see what fencing stock they have. I'm looking for palisade panels, ground stakes and posts. Just a costing and exercise and to see what they have. My future son in law has an account there (his dad used to work at Merrits as well), he also and has a van to pick up and deliver when I'm ready for reconstruction. Have to get my skates on, they close at 12 Noon.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Getting some work done outside before the wind and rain arrives tomorrow. My brother & sister in law have left for home after a couple of nice days of walking & talking, eating & drinking.
We did a Weets circular walk on Thursday afternoon, and yesterday had a lovely walk on the moors starting at Widdop reservoir. We walked alongside the reservoir then up towards Worsthorne to join the new Pennine Bridleway which links up with the Gorple Gate track and back to the other side of the reservoir. A good circular route of just under 6.5 miles and about 1000ft of uphill struggle. It was glorious up on the moors once the mist had cleared, with the constant sound of skylarks & curlews. Lovely stuff.
We were surprised by the low water levels in the reservoirs....has it really been that dry?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Thanks for that Wendy, looked at Merrits as Anthony has trade account with them and if I need stuff bigger than will fit in my car he has a van. He delivers up grandson Finlay to us each Wednesday morning and collects him again at tea time so could collect and deliver my stuff on the way. I will certainly have a look at them anyway as Merrits don't have the palisade panels I was looking for but cheap enough treated timber to knock them up myself.

After days of rain today it is absolutely glorious today in Brittany, at least 21C. Had lunch out, outside on the decking of the restaurant then drove back with the car roof down. Planted summer bulbs in the garden and done loads of washing which is drying fast. Ah at last!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Ah well summer over, back to rain , a constant nagging drizzle! At least I managed to plant onions, two types of beans , loads of freesia and gladioli bulbs and generally tidy the garden. What to do today? Hopefully the rest of the week will be brighter, back home next week.

My parents bought a Roberts portable radio from a Barlick TV and Radio dealer in 1960. The radio is still in my Mums possession and working. The model is still on sale as a retro look set with modern internals. Possible proof that we can get some things right, and make them value for money.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Clearing out the utility room ready for the next stage of house refurbishment. Walls to insulate, new electrics & pipework, new window, floor tiles and new units to be fitted. (Not all of it planned for today.) It used to be part of the old farm stable, and the flag floor is probably still beneath the more recent concrete. I'm hoping to persuade Col that he doesn't need to dig up the concrete.....

Well, at least that wind's gone Wendy. I can remember lying in bed with Mary in the Watermill at Kildonan on Eigg in the middle of a genuine hurricane, Winds in excess of 120mph. The roof was going up and down just over our heads and Mary asked me if it would be all right. I jsut had to say yes but I did wonder....
Butcher's and shopping today. Bit of a tidy up in the shed?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Another lovely day. Pulling the first rhubarb shoots to freeze them. They have trebled in size this week. We didn't even have a bud when we came ten days ago. Then I think a sweep and Hoover of the house ready for our pre leaving floor wash right through. I may clean windows but probably not. Bob still has a leak on the new shower, he is struggling to rectify it.
