Nancy Griffiths....... 'From a distance....' Lovely songs and voice. Could never understand why she didn't get more hits.

From A Distance rang a bell. Written by Julie Gold and sung by many.
Bette Midler sings it beautifully, and received a Grammy for her version.

Peter Corby, inventor of the trouser press, has died aged 97. I was bought one as a Xmas present and still have it. If I have a suit occasion I still use it to press my trousers.

We saw them at the Manchester MEN a few years ago, they came on a Simon and Garfunkel Show for a couple of songs, wished they’d stayed on longer they were the better of the two duos.

Jimmy Greaves the footballer has died aged 81.

I'm probably the only one who remembers him for the interview in which he said that the Beiderbecke Trilogy was the best thing he'd ever seen on the TV.

I agreed at the time, and probably still do.

Robert Fyfe better known as Howard from Last of the Summer Wine has died at the age of 90.

Howard and Marina

I knew Pearl had passed, but not that Marina had also done so. I've a tape of her in depth take on Hilda Baker, which is very good.

I'm sorry to hear that, I always enjoyed him. (But news of 3 deaths in one obit is a bit depressing at my age!)

See THIS for the BBC obituary for Colin Powell who has died aged 84 from Covid19 related problems. A good man who rose from a poor background in Brooklyn.

There's a lot in his lyrics that the casual listener with less than perfect hearing - (me  ) misses.

I like the shores of America.
Comfort is yours in America.
Knobs on doors in America,
Wall-to-wall floors in America!

I like to be in America!
O.K. by me in America!
Ev'rything free in America
For a small fee in America!

I've always thought that modern song lyrics, on the whole, aren't as well crafted as they used to be.....
