I consulted with Susan yesterday about Terry Pratchett, she has read some and she has convinced me I should dip my toe in.

Terry Pratchett. The problem is with Pratchett is knowing where to start. Disc World is a complex world with its own inhabitants that are certainly different to us but share a lot of the basic ways of life. I started someway into the series and played catch up for a good part of the book. Perhaps someone who has read more of his books could advise. You can have mine as I finish them.

Nice offer Ken, thank you. I usually look at an author's bibliography if I am starting a new track.
I am 25% of the way through Bleak House, not the easiest read in the world but I am following the horde of characters fairly well I think. You certainly slip back into the 19th century when you read it. Dickens was continually hammering his social message wasn't he!

Nick Ferrari had a week off last week, and he read Bolton's book. He must have been impressed by it as he has mentioned it a lot over the last two days - usually to say what very heavy going it was. Lots of redactions of the gossipy bits which he wanted to see.

Yes, When I was in the other day a gent dropped a bag full of books off. They then go down in the cellar in quarantine. for a couple a days.

My last purchases are in my garage and will stay there for the next 3 weeks at least.

If you do Wendy could you grab some Pratchett for me please? No limit on number.
I remembered our conversation about thunderbolts when I read in Bleak House the episode where Esther and Ada shelter in the keeper's cottage during a violent thunderstorm. All the windows were opened.

Could I join the Pratchett reading club? after Stanley of course. I will return them to Stanley or Wendy if this is agreeable to both of you. Sorry to say I bought up the entire stock of Pratchett books at the Samaritans last friday so unless Jim (the collection man) has put some more on the shelves since last week that's it. I'm on book No 2 (Money) which is another one part way through the series more understandable but still leaves you getting to grips with the characters. Always wise to start at the beginning and get a better understanding of the world he has invented.

Well, as Stanley is labouring through Bleak House and you need to start at the very beginning, why don't you pop up here to collect them Ken and then deliver them to Stanley when you have read them? I've never got into them and Col says he got bored after reading the first couple of books.

I'm OK for a while Ken, on about page 320 of Bleak House and you have to read it properly as you well know.

Sounds Ok to me Wendy. Unfortunately I'm in technical lock down for the next week or so because of a Hospital appointment. Can't even get onto their car park without a 7 days quarantine behind you. I joke of course.

I could put them in a bag at the end of the track by the road if you prefer to keep a 250m distance! :biggrin2:

Pratchett Books. Wendy has kindly donated her books to the Open University of One Guy From Barlick. Wendy's are the first six of Disc World, mine tend to range from N0 7 to 25 in at random intervals. If you could give me a couple a weeks I'll get a tranche over to you.

The road past Wendy's is the M65 of back roads. The MINIMUM speed appears to be 120 mph. Frightening. :rocket:

You would have been safer coming in, but then your tyres would have become encrusted with sheep muck from the track so best avoided!
I don't pull out onto the road if I can see a car anywhere they go so fast, but have been met on more than one occasion by people overtaking round the blind bend on the Colne side. Amazing how many people drive straddling the white line as well.

I am convinced that an awful lot of people have no idea how wide their vehicles are. Or they have no spacial awareness for road positioning. I was thinking of getting a light up sign for the windscreen in my car, "get on your own side". :extrawink:

On one of my pilgrimages to Barnoldswick, I came in from Barrowford. I had much the same feeling driving down that road. No quarter given. Must be a local trait?

I drove that route twice a day at silly time for ten years when I worked in Burnley. You get to read ahead the safer spots for passing bigger stuff. I think that is a lot of the problem nowadays. Lots more oversize vehicles on the road regardless of whether the owners have a need for the size. Plenty of room for "normal" cars.

You demonstrate why I kicked all my licences into touch and sold my car. The buggers frighten me to death and that's from a bloke who drove millions of miles!
P message understood, have reached the point in BH where Lady Dedlok discovers from Guppy that Esther is her supposedly deceased daughter by the mysterious Hawdon. The pace quickens!

BH. The pace is quickening, Esther has gone blind, Krook has self combusted and Tulkinghorn smells a rat!
