Time to knock this on the head. In the picture of Jim Pollard drawing in at Bancroft Shed the small mechanism on the rail of the drawing in frame that moves along selecting the threads for Jim is called a traveller. The sign in the pub window bars travellers. Simple as that and depended on you knowing what the small mechanism was called.
