That reminds me of the recent news report of a woman dying in her flat and her body left for years because nobody, including the police, would take action on neighbours' reports of her being missed and then horrible smells from the flat. The housing association ignored the neighbours too. Guardian

I can understand that a lot of people probably die like that, but what wasn’t done after so many trying was shocking. No duty of care there.

I dare say 'lessons have been learned' as they always say....
(Until the next time...)
I was accosted by David Whipp yesterday in the Town Square and he gave me some good news. I Knew that Terry Gissing had sold Gissing and Lonsdale but David told me that the Riley St Methodists clock that used to be on Wellhouse Mill and was moved onto the top of the Gissing and Lonsdale offices in Wellhouse Road.
It is now surplus to requirements and the Town Council is financing a move up to Bancroft Engine House. Good, it should be safe there.

I hope it turns out better than the water clock that was on display up to 1952. Ay that time the clock was nearly 100 years old. The museum closed and the clock went into storage in Burnley. Gradually deteriorating and in pieces it remained unforgotten until 1906 when there was a drive to get it restored and placed in the Padiham town Hall. The project collapsed in 2004. As far as I know its now on display at the Padiham Town Hall Archive rooms fully restored.

Look up 'Steam Joe' on the site. His family ran a steam contracting business and never sold an engine.

Margaret has left Perth, her flight is climbing out over the Indian Ocean heading for Dubai. A ten hour flight.
It's a bloody miracle isn't it..... I can watch progress from my kitchen table. If anyone had told me this was possible 50 years ago I wouldn't have believed them! I can go off watch now.....

Wasn't Margaret here not so long ago?

The fact that people can travel back and forth so easily is equally amazing.

I had a relative who went as a 'ten pound pom' about 1950 ish. They never returned, and I guess didn't really expect to do so.

Has there ever been such a historic similar period of time which has seen so much change (and largely for the better) ? A bit fanciful (again) but I read somewhere that the ancient Egyptians led exactly the same sort of life along the Nile for several thousand years.

Quite right David, that flight was the result of a scare when everyone thought I was dying..... :biggrin2: This trip is mainly because Mick's mother needs some attention, she lives in Clitheroe.
Mags landed in Dubai 20 minutes ago and leaves there for Manchester in about an hour and a half. We've been talking to each other already this morning. Amazing.......

Margaret has messaged me to tell her how long until departure. She says I have more information than they have.....
Later.... Margaret and Mick left Dubai at 05:00. Due in Manchester at 12:30.

A lovely 3 hour visit by M&M and a catch-up with all that is going on. They look very well and were suited with my condition. We have a full programme of events and as a further treat my Grand daughter Yiota and her man are coming up on Sunday and we are having lunch at the Bull at Broughton.
Other visits are scheduled for next week, my social calendar hasn't looked this exciting for yonks!

Enjoy your visitors :good:

After rejecting the initial valuation of the Yeti, as a total loss, the insurance company have increased it by nearly £1k. I have accepted it and now have to go and buy another, there's no rush as youngest offspring has loaned me his car while he's soaking up the sun in Lanzarote.
