It isn't a Lilac I suppose? The leaves look a bit like that.

Yes, we had good break, Ian, thanks. I've posted a summary in the Attention thread.

Not a lilac or honeysuckle. Keep trying!

Kev, well done! How come you recognised it? I was expecting to have to give clues. We only found out because the cottage owner told us it was a kiwi vine and he'd had to move it from its original position on the side of the cottage to prevent it completley swallowing the building. It fruits some years. At first we didn't realise it was in flower - they were hiding in the masses of leaves! First time we've ever knowingly seen a kiwi vine. Here's a photo I took of its flowers - they're each about 2 inches diameter and change from white to yellow after pollination. Quite attractive - if they didn't hide!...

I remember them from holidays in Italy, they grow quite a lot there and the leaves are fairly distinctive. I wasn't 100% sure but it was worth a punt :biggrin2:

I didn't know they grew them in Italy - they're said to be native to China, Japan, and the Korean peninsula. Chinatyke must have been offline or he doesn't live in the right part of China! The Latin name is Actinidia deliciosa.

We ain't got any in our garden! Kiwi fruit crossed my mind (along with honeysuckle) but it was just wild ideas.

Looking at the cars, and they're driving on the right, somewhere in Europe, Belgium? A monument to someone who saved someone's life on a battlefield?

The De Vaartkapoen sculpture in Molenbeek, Belgium, featuring `a comical situation in which a lowly person has decided to trip a policeman'. It represents the idea of overthrowing authority and was created by sculptor Tom Frantzen. LINK An interesting and amusing object, Stanley - sorry to finish it off so quickly! :extrawink:
