Snow lying very thick here, about 25cm on top of our garden table.no sign of a thaw, although it is 1. 5C , the warmest for ages. Last night when we went to bed someone was snow boarding down the road opposite. I bet Wendy has it bad today.

There is probably another four or five inches of very wet snow on top of the last lot, but it is already thawing. The wind is coming from the west for the first time in ages.

Nope no thaw here, not even wet. In fact it's gone cloudy again and colder since we got up.

Wendy is right, the wind switched into the west and a slow thaw started yesterday. Later in the afternoon the wind got up and was much warmer, there was only light rain at first but during the night it got heavier and this morning when I got up it was stair rod but has eased off now. The glass has fallen to 28.5" and virtually all the snow has gone down here.

Image

It's been a very rapid thaw. I did this pic at 20:00 last night because I've never seen this effect so clearly before. The relatively warm west wind is blowing down the front street from left to right and you can see clearly

Image

The same scene this morning. The wind and rain have done a good job but I'll bet that with such a rapid thaw we will here news of floods this morning.....
Later, Butts Beck running a banker. I don't think I have ever seen it as high.....

Most of the latest snow has gone apart from the piles where people cleared their drives, but the underlying snow from last week which froze hard is taking longer to clear. We had a visit from a gritter two nights before the first snow came and have not seen one since.

It has felt much colder up here today, though I know it can't have been. The wind has been quite strong so that must have made a difference. By the time I had finished my outside tasks this afternoon my hands were numb with cold. Your dad would have needed to keep that extra coat well buttoned up if he had been up here today Nolic!

I noted the same thing in Barlick Wendy, even in me Crombie, the wind at dinnertime was cutting straight through me! I think there is a frost this morning but the glass has climbed back up to 29" so we might be in for a brighter day. One thing I have noticed with relief is the way the days are lengthening. Daylight lasts an hour longer now till 16:30. There may be hope for us wintering again!

21C windy, overcast and with light showers here in Adelaide, very nice.

Not so good in Queensland unfortunately, after the floods in 2010/2011 which caused $4billion worth of damage, most people and business's are just getting back to normal, but are now experiencing a new Flood Emergency. The current floods are predicted to be worst for 100yrs, in many areas even worse than the 2010/11 floods. It's been raining mostly non-stop and winds have been up to 130kph. Some people are facing their 3rd flood in 3yrs. At least this time people had been warned to evacuate, most people have been able to, but the those that can't or won't have been told to head for higher ground, for a lot of people this means their house roofs so that they (hopefully) can be rescued. 3 people have died and many are stranded. The floods have worked their way down to northern NSW and the Gold Coast has been battered badly by a cyclone to the east and king tides. Not good news at all.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

I noticed the longer daylight last evening. Again this morning dawn seemed to be a little earlier but the full moon might have helped that impression. Nolic

Damp, windy, feels cold but is actually 4C. Snow thawing very slowly. The main roads are clear but side roads and pavements are wet on ice

Thunder, lightning and hailstones in Nelson early evening. Dryer now but still on the blustery side. Milder day tomorrow.

Same here Moh, it was a lousy afternoon with heavy rain rattling on the kitchen window. The glass dropped below 28.5" during the day but this morning has almost climbed back to 29". Better day? There's still a stiff breeze but nowhere near as windy as yesterday.

A very wet day today with some heavy rain adding to the saturated ground. Much the same tomorrow but very windy. Looks set to turn colder over this coming weekend, possibly some snow to follow !

Tuesday was almost a rerun of Monday, a reasonable morning and a lousy afternoon. The glass fell a bit yesterday but has got back to 28.8" this morning. Bit of breeze but dry and not cold.

The wind has been blowing a gale and lashing down with rain but at the moment it seems to have brightened and calmed down a bit. I saw the first snowdrops yesterday on the back road near Paythorne - sign of Sring ??

Same here in Barlick, decent if blowy morning and then the sky opened after noon and the rain fell. Rain during night as well. Glass hovering around 29". Last day of January!
07:45. We've had our walk. Dry at the moment but very windy and no doubt showers will blow in on it. There will be no cobwebs on Wendy today!

The wind reached 50 mph here yesterday, then eased overnight. It's meant to build up again during the day today.
