It's a bit like Poppies that favour rubbish soil and disturbed ground which is why they grow in abundance in Flanders Field. Railway embankments for Rose Bay Willow Herb come to mind.

Re: ILP Clarion House
Work has just been completed to install our new multi fuel stove. This replaces the open fire and fireplace that was installed in the 1930's.
The picture was taken by John Boardman.

You can see that we have some of our predecessors back in place.

I agree with Kev. A credit to you all!
I do like to see these proofs tat the Clarion House is in good hands. There are still some things we can still rely on.

Re: ILP Clarion House
Like lots of other volunteer organisations the custodians are not getting any younger. We have one or two at the younger end (40's /50's) who are passionate about the place which gives us hope. Clarion Constitution does not allow the site to be sold.

Re: ILP Clarion House
ILP Land Society meeting this afternoon. Some capital projects come to fruition, others in the pipeline. Stuff completed is the new playground which will be officially opened on the 13th April, there will be cake to accompany and The Clarion Choir. Rotating ventilators have been installed in the main room and verandah windows that should help to keep the condensation down. A carbon Monoxide detector has been installed in the main room to compliment the multi fuel stove.
More projects agreed today. Repainting of the verandah internally, windows sill, walls etc and a contractor for the entrance to the site refurbishment which will involve removing the current spaced flags which are currently installed. The flags will be relayed to improve the other flagged paths around the site, The main hard standing will be excavated and a grid mat fitted which will then be filled with porous micro aggregate, edging will be done with stone sets or cobbles. There may be opportunity the replace the wooden gatepost at the same time.
There will be an organised and guided walk from Whalley to Earby which is part of the route of the recently redeveloped Two Toms Walk. It has been decided to extend this through to Malham.
Her is a Guardian article which explains the origins.

Re: ILP Clarion House
It's the official opening of our new children's play area at the Clarion. One of our capital projects that has come to fruition. It has cost a lot of money but has been mainly financed by the sterling efforts of one of our ILP members who has chased down grant funding to cover the major costs. As reported in my last post there will be cake and the Clarion Choir as well as Jack Burrows our historian who will be opening the new facilities. Poster attached and I will take some pictures while we are at the house.

Here are my photos of the playground opening today

New Play Area 1

New Play Area 2

Bike Maintainance stand and pump

New Play Area 3. I missed taking photos of another couple of items, a rope bridge and two converging balancing logs. All the new kit was well used by the kids who were present today.

Commemorative plaque for the ILP and Clarion Cycling Club members who fought in the Spanish Civil War

Plaques to commemorate the grant funders of the new equipment

Sue Nike introducing Jack Burrows

Sue Boardman ready to cut the cake

It was good that the rain held off despite some ominous looking clouds. The cake was very nice as well.
