There is coughing in the stables as the clan meets in Perth for Holly's wedding in ten days. I don't think it's serious and everyone is being sensible and careful. The new normal I think.
Significant morning in the shed as I continue to try to retrieve my mistake on the crankshaft. Fingers crossed!

It's worrying Margaret but you have over a week to get over it. Resist every attempt by anyone to do anything that stops you resting! It's to be hoped that your little sister is looking after you.....

Mohamed El-Erian, chief economic adviser at Allianz, says the Chancellor has to strike the right balance to reassure the markets and help the economy grow. He's been telling BBC Radio 4's Today programme, that the markets are looking for confirmation that the UK is restoring its economic reputation, putting government finances on a sound footing and promoting economic growth. "It is going to be tricky, striking the right balance because there are so many economic and political judgments here," Dr El-Erian says. Large tax rises and spending cuts could be seen as "excessive austerity", he adds, while measures to boost economic growth are absolutely critical. "The answer to all the issues that the UK faces today from inflatio... to a damaged economic reputation, is high, sustained, inclusive growth," Dr El-Erian says.
I heard him on Today and it's worth going to find him. He said that the 'black hole' isn't £50Bn but nearer 30 and that the budget is being used to create a minefield for Labour in the next election. Too political....

there's an extraordinary Council Meeting on live now. Pendle Council

It's hard to understand what's going on - and they don't all seem to understand or agree on procedure.

David Whipp (who seems to have come as Father Xmas) helpfully explains -

"that amendment has been voted on so it then becomes a substantive motion which itself is then subject to possible amendments, before then being voted upon.

I had gone to bed early by that time David. Sounds as though I was in the right place!
The coughing seems to be subsiding Down Under!

Well - after the post the attendance leapt from 4 to 7. Not clear why it was an extraordinary meeting though.

Nothing about it is clear to me David. Probably a good job I declined when invited to run for office many years ago....My brain isn't wired up the same way as theirs... (That's the only explanation I can find!)

I counted at least 15 present in the meeting which according to the blurb was to determine planning matters. Extraordinary as it may have been because some time limits for objections and discussion were running out. I remember the many late nights that Sally came home when she was on planning on the council.

As to motions, if you amend the original as presented you can then only modify the modifications until everyone is happy then you go to the vote on what is now the substantive motion, simples really. :extrawink: Bog standard procedure.

I should have said the 'online' attendance leapt. I could not see the actual public. The cameras are fixed.

Which David Whipp had to explain a couple of times to the members present.

I wonder if was the Tories that are to thick to understand correct committee procedure or just gerrymandering when it suits their agenda?
I would say that of course but it is based on the fact that at our all member, (formerly GC delegated) and EC meetings it it totally understood by ordinary members and councillors alike.

Colne Framework issue 52 now available for discussion. Good value at 128 pages. Actually 120 pages of bumf with possibly 8 pages of real interest, that's if you can find them. Why do they do it? Answer in no less than 4 volumes.

I admire your tenacity Ken in monitoring these things. I'm afraid I couldn't do it!
As for inordinate length.... I suspect the people that have been tasked/paid to produce a document like to show value for money.
Never mind the quality, feel the width!

I got this in an email today, supposedly from a relative, didn’t respond to it, it appears to be a scam.

Hi there, Sorry to ask, do you have a free moment over email?

Please let me know!

I had a similar mail a few days ago. My rule Gloria is that if I don't instantly recognise the sender I delete the mail. If it's important someone will get to me... :biggrin2:

I recognised the sender Stanley, it was the content which I thought odd for them.

We had one a few days ago 'Can you help me out' apparently from a lady who Mrs P worked with years ago who wouldn't know our email address but knows our phone number. Normal action taken.

These scammers are very cunning and constantly looking for loopholes in our armour.
When you think about it, the only emails that are always above suspicion are the ones you initiate yourself!
You've reminded me of a story about my friend Daniel when he worked for the BBC many years ago. IT contacted him to point out he had over a hundred unanswered mails in his box. Daniel responded by deleting all of them. IT went berserk! Daniel pointed out that there hadn't been a single bad consequence from ignoring the mails. Basically they were all time wasters. I quite like that attitude.

Grand Daughter Holly gets married tomorrow in Oz. All the kids are out there and I am certain they will be having a whale of a time. We have another wedding coming up, another grand daughter and again in Oz. Susan and I were talking about it and she was saying that while she was over there she'd break it gently to Kate that she couldn't afford to fly out there again. A lot of families must be in this position now. The reason I didn't go was that I think it could be too big a shock for my system at my age. A cop out I know but better safe than sorry! (There's the cost as well.... I may need to spend the air fare on gas....)

Stanley, do you know that you can do free video calls with Whatsapp?

Just choose the recipient from your list and instead of posting a text, click the movie camera icon at the top. That will initiate a Whatsapp call with video.
