See my last edit Cathy, not too bad actually!
Later, 06:20. We did well! Just looked outside and the wind is up again and it's raining. Just as nasty as yesterday but perhaps lighter rain.

The later part of the day was sunny with occasional light showers, very cold wind. At 20:00 we had a stiff west wind and heavy sleet/graupel/hail drifting at the bottoms of the walls. Very cold. First thing this morning it was breezy, cold and dry with well broken cloud. Just looked out and we have more cloud and there has been a light shower. The glass has risen steadily as Dennis retreats to the NW and is on 1006mb. The forecast is for a heavily overcast day but dry until 13:00 when we can expect a band of rain followed by broken cloud later. The constant WSW wind is still strong gusting to 40mph and giving a high of 6C and a low of 2C with a -6C wind chill all day making the perceived temperature never better than freezing and well below for much of the day. It wouldn't surprise me if the later showers are wintry. The outlook isn't cheerful, mostly cold and wet all week. Deep Joy!

Adelaide. A cool, breezy and cloudy 21C today.
A shower or two, but nothing to get excited about.

Back from our Valley Gardens walk. Very cold wind but dry. Full Mother Russia, I know it looks like overkill but if you can get back home with warm ears in weather like this you are somewhere near getting it right!
09:00. Just had our second walk and the forecast got it wrong, cold nasty rain blowing in on a strong wind.

Yesterday was cold and at times wet and nasty. At 20:00 we had a stiff breeze, very cold but dry under scudding broken cloud. Same first thing this morning but a stronger cold wind, Just looked out and the wind has slacked a bit as is usual at this time of the morning but the overcast is now 100%. Still dry. The glass is steadier and is up slightly on 1010mb. The forecast is for bright overcast with occasional glimpses of the sun until noon when a band of heavy rain is expected. The W/SW wind is moderate until the rain comes in when it strengthens and gusts up to 40mph giving a high of 7C with a low of 6C. The wind chill is around -5C all day making it feel very cold. The outlook is not cheerful, this cold changeable weather will persist all week. I think it's February Fill Dyke.
(One more cheerful thought... The Croci/Crocuses are flowering on the Green.)
06:20. A decent walk. Light breeze cold but dry and 100% overcast. No complaints at all!
Will someone please do something about the Millennium clock in the Square, 30 minutes slow for months and the bus shelter clock which has been 4 hours out for even longer.

Cold nasty rain came in as forecast yesterday. At 20:00 we still had rain. First thing this morning it had ceased, it was mild, not as windy and we had well broken cloud. Just popped out, it is mild, breezy and dry but I think the overcast is heavier than it was first thing. The glass is down on 995mb and still falling. The forecast is for heavy rain now and until 16:00 when we will get drier weather and sunny intervals, perhaps this is a west coast forecast.....
The wind starts as WSW, then WNW and then West. It is brisk and gusts to 40mph giving us a high of 8C and a low of 2C tonight with a wind chill later of -6C The effect of this is that from noon onwards it will feel like well below freezing. Another February day, wrap up well and expect rain any time this morning.
05:05 Light rain has started blowing on the wind so we used our heads and went out early for a Crombie walk. Shorter than usual, just time for Jack to have a good first delivery and a run free on the Green for his sniffs and multiple pees. He is back inside sausaged, warm and dry. Not a bad choice. The wind is rising, fine rain is blowing in and it's not as cold as it was yesterday. We'll see what it's like on the next short walk.....

Just had second walk. The forecast was accurate. Steady cold rain. Just imagine the feelings of someone in danger of flooding looking out of the window at this. We are very lucky!

A wet afternoon, very cold heavy rain. At 20:00 we had a light breeze, big clear areas in the sky and it was dry. First thing this morning it was the same but an hour later we had a shower of rain, just looked outside and the rain has ceased but we have solid overcast. The glass rose yesterday and is on 1010mb but I think it's started to fall. The forecast is very simple, heavy rain all day. The wind is constant strong SW gusting to 50mph and giving a high of 8C and a low of 6C with a wind chill that starts at -6C and settles to -5C for the rest of the day. The outlook gives no cheer, more of the same for the next week.
06:20. We were home after a minor miracle. The forecast is for heavy rain all day and when I was getting rugged up it was raining heavily. But when we went out it was dry and remains so. We had a dry walk and a good job too because we have a very strong cold gusty wind. If it had been raining it would have been horrible. Thank you God!

The dry walk to the butcher's was the high point of yesterday, it rained all day driven on a strong wind, in the afternoon it was hail. It was still raining at 20:00. First thing this morning it was dry and less wind but like yesterday, within an hour the wind had risen and it was raining, still raining now as I write. The glass has again fallen to 998mb. The forecast is for rain for the next couple of hours then overcast until 16:00 when the rain comes in again. (The rain continues all night and well into Sunday morning.) The constant WSW wind is strong all day gusting to 55mph at times. It gives a high of 6C and a low of 4C with a -6C wind chill all day. No respite in sight in the outlook, just variation in the wind and rain. Deep Joy!
05:50. Yes, you're right, we are back home early. We went out in full waterproofs and despite the rain I had every intention of doing the full Valley Gardens walk. However! As soon as we set off I realised the wind is far stronger and more violent gusts than any other morning this week. I soon decided that as soon as Jack had made his delivery we would turn for home, that's why we are back early. The wind is very strong and the gusts are violent enough to make me stagger, I don't like it and whilst I am all in favour of exercise I don't need punishment! Jack is not phased. He has had his sausage and is on his chair with his ball. That will do!

Another damp day. This picture is of the Salterforth Levels. A flood plane doing what its supposed to do. You can see the extent of the water through the trees.

The rain came in again at Dusk as forecast. At 20:00 we had cold rain but less wind, this morning it's the same. The glass rose all day but then fell back during the night, it's on 1005mb this morning. The forecast is for heavy rain until about 10:00 then drier and sunny intervals. The brisk wind gusts to 40mph at times, starts as WSW then moves into WNW as the rain ceases and finishes up as West this evening giving a high of 5C and a low of 0C with a -5C wind chill most of the day making it feel very cold.
05:00. I've just been looking at Flight Tracker, the incoming traffic from the US bound for European destinations and they are all doing well over 600 mph over the ground, a good indication that the jet stream is still very active over the UK.
06:15. No chances were taken this morning, full Mother Russia and waterproofs including Goretex leggings.
Sod's Law kicked in as soon as we set off, the wind and rain dropped and by the time we got back the rain had almost ceased. Never mind, I got back warm and dry and Jack was rubbed down and sausaged as soon as we got back. I could hear Butts Beck before we got to Valley gardens and it is roaring over the Corn Mill dam at least a foot deep. I thought of those poor souls in the Dales who have water like that next to the house. A bit of rain is nothing in comparison with that.
Don't be surprised if you wake up in the morning to a winter wonderland. The forecast promises snow starting at 02:00 and it will last until after 07:00. Deep Joy!

Stanley wrote: 16 Feb 2020, 04:08 I realised this morning that after 20 hours of constant rain I have the same small leak in the kitchen window head. It has been noted and will be dealt with!
I have the same, I believe I have identified the source. The mastic seal around the upstairs window above is failing and the rain is being driven underneath, it's finding it's way down to the top of the window below...
Redoing the mastic under the upstairs window didn't work, still dripping when the rain is blowing against the front of the house. I took advantage of the break in the rain this morning and have been up the ladder, the troughing had moved away from the house by an inch so some of the rain was running behind it. There was also a split in the felt that's supposed to flash the bottom edge of the roof. A quick repair of the felt with some all weather gaffer tape and 'extreme' silicone has hopefully sorted that bit, I've pushed the troughing back and secured it with a wedge and a bit more of the extreme silicone. Not a permanent fix but hopefully something that'll stop the water ingress until the weather improves :-)

It was halfway up my boots in places on the lower res, we only went a short distance from Skipton Road and then turned left up towards Langroyd. Looking forward to drier weather so we can explore properly.

Ha Ha!, That reminds me of the old joke about the water in the ford only coming "half way up our ducks!"
We used to enjoy a good walk through Alkincoats from an entrance just above the school on Red Lane, then round the reservoirs. Haven't been that way for ages though.

Kev, I have put a request in for my men to attend as soon as we have a dry spell. I am favouring a re-point of the small area between the upstairs and downstairs window. I doubt if inspection and random patching will crack it, leaks in pointing are so hard to detect.

The forecasters spoke with forked tongue about snow, so far this morning we just have cold hard sleety rain. At 20:00 last night it was clear and dry, now it's just plain overcast nasty wet and cold. The glass rose but is down on 1010mb and falling. The forecast is for rain all day, heavy and sleety until 11:00. The wind is very variable and gusty to 40mph, starts SE but ends as West. High of 9C and a low of 1C with a wind chill as much as -6C. Outlook is a bit drier but colder.

Image

05:55. Back from our normal Valley Gardens walk. This was what greeted me when I opened the door. The forecasters were right about the snow, it arrived later than forecast.

Image

It's snowing steadily and sticking and as we went out it was obvious that the salt has all been washed off the roads by the rain and just for once traffic has slowed down! Even the thickos must have realised that this is treacherous! It's still snowing and sticking but I think the gritters have done the main roads now. So it's winter!
The Schoffel coat and winter boots did their job. Snow doesn't stick to the coat and the commando soles did their job no problem with foothold as long as you take it easy.

Yesterday was not good, even the improvement in the afternoon as the snow melted away was spoilt by cold light rain. At 20:00 it was breezy, cold and raining with ragged broken cloud. First thing this morning it was calmer but still cold rain, no change since. The glass fell all day and this morning is steady on 993mb. The forecast is not good, wintry showers all day. The constant WSW wind is brisk and gusty and gives a high of 4C and a low of 0C with up to -5C wind chill depending on wind strength. The effect will be that we will feel below freezing all day. Deep Joy!
05:40. Yes, we got out early to take advantage of a lull in the wind and rain. So we had a Crombie walk, it's thick enough to stand a fair bit of rain and it protects my legs better! Not a bad walk and almost certainly the best weather of the day if the forecast is anywhere near right. Now for the rest of the day!

We have a covering of snow again up here. Yesterday was fairly horrible especially when the 2 inches of wet snow that we woke up to thawed quickly in the heavy rain around lunchtime. I don't remember seeing as much water running across the fields, it was quite scary. That was followed by more 50mph winds. I ventured up the track with the dog in a short dry spell but it was hard to stand up away from the shelter of the buildings.
