Either a starting handle for some kind of engine or a wheel nut wrench.

If for the latter, the loop in the round bar would allow the use of a tommy bar for more leverage if required.

I've almost forgotten, it was 59 years ago since I worked at Swindle and Bowker for 3.75 groats an hour! It's a winding handle that fits in a ledger spline for opening the pages. Was it Kalamazoo who made the ledgers?

Yes but there's a bit more to it than that Gloria. Tell me more, you've seen it before so it's a memory test.

You're quite right Gloria, it's for measuring feet. This one came out of the old Co-op in Barlick and is different because as well as having inches and child sizes it has clog sizes as well.
Next one for shaving?

Telling me where, was an invitation Stanley.
I googled it. Welwitschia mirabilis, a drought resistant and unique miracle plant found in the Namib desert. They can live up to 1500 years old.
National plant of Namibia.
Mirabilis means “marvellous “.

A hole. They come in all sizes. Bring a big truck if you need a big hole though most will fit inside a family car.

Writing that reminded me of when one-of-my-wives put her Volvo in for an MOT and it needed the engine mounts replacing. They were duly ordered from a place in Rochdale and a mate said she would give her a lift to collect them. When she arrive she went up to the counter and declared that she had come to collect the Volvo engine mounts but her friend only had a small car. The shop assistant couldn't contain herself. "What has that got to do with it?" she asked.
"Well, I'm worried I won't be able to fit them inside her car" replied Cathy.
The assistant burst out laughing and said "I love people like you!" and threw her a small plastic bag containing the 4 rubber mounting bushes.
