If it's any consolation Stanley we're struggling with 2 Mbps on our PCs at the moment rather than the usual 45+ Mbps. Our old TP-Link Powerline adapters have finally popped their clogs. I've ordered 4 new ones and at least they're faster than the old versions. To be fair the, Powerlines have done sterling work for us for many years.

This is Somerset-style news - Wendy should enjoy it!...

Yes, I have noticed that as well Stanley. So much so that I checked my broadband speed to see if that was a bit duff, It's not, 75Mbps down and 20Mbps up. Must be the IONOS servers or something in the routing tables or other network infrastructure between Barlick and the UK data centre where our Virtual Server now lives.

Just done a Traceroute from the Command Prompt:

Trace.jpg

Looks like it's slowing down on the route just before it hits the IONOS infrastructure.

It''s definitely busted somewhere in the infrastructure route. A bog standard ping request times out before it can correctly resolve the site address. :waiting:

Nothing we can do about that. Just have to wait until the routing tables update or auto regenerate.

Ironic - since I renewed with Plusnet recently, and they gave me a free increased speed upgrade as a thank you, which took effect yesterday.

It's reached the stage where using the site is too slow to be enjoyable.

7.00pm
PS. Seems to be back to usual speed now. Hurrah !

This is the first time the site has been available this morning. 504 gateway error since before 03:00.
I have finished yesterday's cooking, done an hour and a quarter in the shed and put my chicken in for its 4 hour roast. The site is still slow and I shan't attempt to post seriously until later this morning when I have had my sleep. See you all then! :biggrin2:

There was a brief period where it was fine yesterday evening. Ian is on the case (I presume) as the Plesk UI said someone else was logged into it this morning.

I've been surviving on our current failed Powerline adapters at 2Mbps yet I've still been able to post on OG. The adapters are due today, ordered by my young cousin on her Prime account (aren't youngsters useful!). The experience reminded me of how Mrs Tiz and me ran our online bookselling and publishing business, started in 1995 and running at much less than 2Mbps!

If anyone's interested, I've bought two pairs of these TP-Link Powerline adapters. When I sent my cousin the link on Thursday they were about £43 for each pair but when she went to order them last night they were down to about £35. Amazon Powerline

Any errors encountered during the night, certainly at 3am could well be down to maintenance routines instigated by the hosting company. A 504 error is a timeout problem and in this case probably related to the infrastructure problem reported in my last post. This is why a standard ping request fails as the query cant get a reply in a timely manner so it fails.

Curious thing though is that the bottleneck on a traceroute query seems to be at IP 78.144.1.188 which for me is an address owned and used by TakTalk who are my ISP. It would be helpful if a user who uses a different ISP could run the query as their route to where the site lives will go via different routers before landing at the IONOS gateway. This would narrow down the probable cause. Kev could be a likely candidate in this regard as I think he uses a different ISP.

Talk Talk currently report no problems on their systems. I will check the hosting site for current status.

Kev, not me Guv, not been into Plesk for at least a week or more. I popped in just to check the backup regime.

I'll fire up the desktop and do some checks.

With regard to Plesk, it could have been me not logging out yesterday. I did notice, in the logs, there was a server reboot yesterday.

I've watched the 'Red Bull' soapbox challenge on TV and enjoyed it. I think it's a great idea, and location, for a local event and should make for an enjoyable Sunday :good:

As you can probably tell the site is still experiencing issues, fear not it's being looked at.

What else caught my attention was a text message sent to me,. A bank with no money, there's a novelty :biggrin2:
