Morning Sue! Co-opt Bob onto the Singer project.... He's probably got a very simple answer to your seized handwheel...
I have been in the shed for two hours and as I have only done one pic I'll upload it now and put it on here first.
Two for the price of one. I've made the little oil passage in the crank bearing and started making the con rod. Good progress and all went well. (You can't have too many chucks, the two jaw came out this morning to turn the head of the bearing round.)

Just realised why I'm only seeing results, not contacts, on my NHS app. It is just that, the 'NHS' app, not the NHS Covid-19 app
Still negative

This afternoon I've been scavenging for scrap wood in the workshop and have filled a large container with sticks for firelighting. It's fun using the chop saw to cut them to length but I don't enjoy the splitting bit with an axe.

I used to love chopping up kindling sticks for the fire when I was lad.

I never expected to be doing it in my seventies.

One of my favourite fire related jobs is splitting logs using the hydraulic splitter.

All day so far, now trying to reassemble. Good job I took a photo at each stage

We have one of those in France. A Christmas present to each other our first Winter. The wood splits with an almighty crack

One thing about working on the Singer Sue, you're dealing with beautiful engineering, they were built like a watch and the castings were the very highest quality. Singers were the bench mark all the other makers aspired to.
Today will be another regular day, two hours in the shed on my con rod, second sleep and it looks as though it will be dry enough for bookie watch later in the morning.

Morning
Well I have no idea what the weather was like yesterday as I was so engrossed in what I was doing. I stripped the hand wheel down completely cleaning and polishing every bit as I went. I used Bobs small ultrasonic tank to clean the small pieces before polishing up. I had already read up on the appropriate cleansers and polishes to be used on such renovation projects. Bob regreased and oiled as appropriate as we reassembled it together. Considering it was a its age I had few parts that were stuck. WD40 came in very handy. It was nearly 6.00 pm when I finished for the day. Today I have the bobbin winding mechanism to do . Bob thought you would be interested in the price of the tin of grease Stanley!

The whole handle mechanism now works like a dream and the machine itself is beginning to gleam. The machine is one of 120 000 made on Clydeside between July and December 1910 (I looked up the registration number).
I have just done my lateral flow test for the day and i am still negative. Have a good day all

Morning Sue. You sound quite enthusiastic about your engineering. Nice! Yes I have a tin of Retinax somewhere and it would be the same price. The way prices have gone up frightens me...
Here's what I have been doing this morning, the bearing is ready for it's natty little knurled plug in the lubricator. The con rod is the right size and ready for fitting to the bearing. In all, quiet progress and no mistakes... I enjoy that.
Good luck with the Singer, it will run like silk when you've finished it. Very rewarding....

Still negative here at Chez Kev. As contact was the 21st today should be the last day of testing but, according to the 'world beating' test and trace application, we need to continue testing daily until the 31st. I'm happy to continue testing until then but it seems a bit pointless to me.

I thought they had re-jigged it to 7 days if you don't have symptoms in which case you are correct. Looks like test and trace are not keeping up with the program so what's new there?

I think it's because youngest offspring couldn't get a PCR until the 24th and test and trace have used that date, despite him noting the contact as the 21st.
The email I received says
You should take a rapid lateral flow test each day for 7 days, or until Friday 31 December 2021 if that is earlier.

Ah right they use the lab tested PCR as the start date for infection then. I'm with you though as long as you haven't been to many all night raves and the like.

Sally has gone down to Stratford today (our Jack driving) to pick Ruby up. They should be back around tea time. Our other Granddaughter Isla has got tonsillitis and should be coming here for New Year as well. I hope she is feeling a bit better after a few days on the AB's

Been out for some fresh air today. A walk along to Castle Road, up to the golf club along Cock Hill Lane and back down Noyna Road to home. It was a gloomy afternoon but it didn't rain.

I waked to the flagpole and had 15 minutes bookie watch. That got some fresh air down me. I think it might rain today....
I shall be in the shed working away on my con rod and might get to address the crosshead slide as I think I need that in place before I make the crosshead. Then second sleep and see what the weather is like.....
