I'm sure you're right Ian, the problem is in the machine programme and I have no doubt that given time I could crack it but to tell you the truth I can't be arsed! I know I can bake a loaf that suits me with half and half and so will simply carry on with that. I have a half and half loaf in the machine as I write....
Dinner yesterday was a pork pie with the ersatz coleslaw and for tea, the rest of it on a butty. I was going to put a thick slice of boiled ham on it but decided less was better!

Half and half loaf was perfect, no more experiments with straight wholemeal!
Cheese and olive butty for dinner but I made the mistake of eating 4 small Eccles cakes as a treat. Not hungry at teatime so just a piece of bread with apricot conserve on and filled up with fruit.

Put a lump of two shear on a bed of garlic and onion and simmered till it fell to pieces. Boiled and mashed a pan full of spuds at the same time. Meat not ready at dinner so mash and baked beans. Chucked some peas in with the meat after I had de-boned it and cut the meat up. Mash, peas and stewed mutton for tea, lovely..... Plenty left to see the year out!

Have decided on Spinach and Ricotta Pasta, with thinly sliced Chicken Breast in a White Wine and Slightly cheesy sauce.

Our daughter & her partner came for tea yesterday so today is eating up cold lamb, cauliflower cheese, brussels, carrots & gravy with roast potatoes (or I may do new ones).

Porridge for dinner and an egg butty on toast with the remains of the St Agur for tea with fruit. No butcher today they are not opening till Monday.

Had an egg butty for dinner and during the day built one of my veggies stews. It was ready at teatime and will be even better today.

An air-fryer, Stanley.
Somewhat like a bread maker to look at. You can roast, grill and fry in it but it only uses a teaspoon of oil.
I tried some shoe-string fries just to satisfy son's curiosity and they were incredibly good. It cooks and crisps using hot air.
Might try some salmon cakes for dinner...
( can't hurt to reduce fat intake)

Now there's a coincidence - I've just seen one demonstrated on TV.

Looks like a Halogen oven on steroids.

I'm a big fan of the halogen oven, which I bought after MOH's endorsement. Best roast chicken ever.

Similar, Tripps....( paid twice as much for it and no rotisserie!)
Cooked Salmon patties in it and they were delicious. All I used was the merest spray of oil, yet they were nice and crisp on the outside. You can't do that in a pan...even a non stick one...they won't crisp properly without oil.
Was searching for recipes on the net last night. Amazing the things you can do in it.
Only downside that I can see is that I have to find a space for it. I don't like it sat on the kitchen bench 24/7. I like my benches clear.

Veggie stew X 2 yesterday and the last crust from the loaf with cheese on it at teatime for a treat.... Another loaf goes in this morning.

Other people's clutter and mess doesn't bother me one bit...in fact...I wish I could be a bit more relaxed about things.
Unfortunately, Febby is even worse than me and finds my temporary mess ( when cooking or sewing etc), unbearable.
We are both feeling quite happy that we only have to endure another six days of dog hair...son and pooch are moving out.
They moved in "for a few weeks", last March.
The patch of light at the end of the tunnel is getting larger and just for once I don't think it is an oncoming freight train.

Beefy stew with carrots, onion and swede slow cooking in the oven and red cabbage braising on the hotplate....all veggies home grown, except for an apple which is in with the red cabbage. I've still got plenty onions left but I don't think they will keep much longer. Sacks full of Desiree potatoes keeping well this year despite a touch of scab caused by the dry weather...will mash some later to have with the stew.

Roast Topside of beef, well rested, crispy roasted Maris Piper potatoes, small new Charlotte potatoes, chopped carrots and swede, and cauliflower from the town square market, and of course Yorkshire puddings with lashings of gravy, seen en passage with French Red Wine, And if there is any room left, Chocolate sponge with Cornish Ice Cream, all of this at about 1900 hours.

Last of the veggie stew for dinner. Chops chips and an egg for tea. Put the chop bones on a chapped onion added some water and left on the stove all night. Handy helping of meat and onion stock ready for the next stew! Economy is the household mint!

Chevapchiccis ( spicy skinless sausages) and salad tonight.
I was going to do a little mashed potato with it, but son begged for chips done in the air-fryer, so I gave in. He is only with us for four more nights, so may as well indulge him.
Just as well about the four nights - his dog has chronic wind at present and can clear a room pretty quickly. Absolutely acrid! It is just the icing on the cake...Febby filled the Hoover with dog hair this morning and we both agreed it will be good to cut down all this daily work. Roll on Saturday!

Mother Love is an amazing thing! I think you have done your share Maz! (You'll still be finding dog hairs for at least 12 months....)
