I've just had a delivery of printed personal address labels because our stock had run out. We've been buying labels from Able Labels ever since we ran a business and I can recommend them. They've been around since 1954 and have a more traditional approach to selling goods even though they're now on the Web. They supply all sorts of labels and stationary goods, and much else, general or personalised. Unlike most other online sellers they also have a call centre so you can phone them on week days. Their web site is here: Able Labels

Thanks for the link Tiz. I've put it aside for Christmas. I used to print my own labels with Word, but I've run out now, and the need for them doesn't seem to exist any more.

"This weekend Australia votes for ‘The Voice’ in a Referendum.
The Voice to Parliament seeks to establish an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice within the Australian Constitution."

The BBC are reporting a "No" result.

My reaction was to recall the word Bumiputra which has always seemed a bit 'racist' to me.

" For instance, all Bumiputra, regardless of their financial standing, are entitled 7 percent discount on houses or property, including luxurious units; whilst a low-income non-Bumiputra receives no such financial assistance. Other preferential policies include quotas for the following: admission to government educational institutions, qualification for public scholarships, marking of universities exam papers, special bumiputras-only classes prior to university's end of term exams, for positions in government, and ownership of businesses. "

Similarly the Head of State or Yang di-Pertuan Agong is elected - but only by his fellow State Sultans. A bit of a "closed shop".

Not a lot of people know that.

I was sorry to see the Voice failed but realise that it's a complicated matter and I understand that some of the opposition was from the indigenous people themselves. I just hope eventually that they get more equitable treatment.... The history of our treatment of them is shameful.......
As for Able Labels..... so nice to see they are still in business. I am still using the last batch I got from them 25 years ago when I moved into this house and needed new ones because of the change of address.

I wouldn’t take these results as Australian’s being racist.
I think the general thought is that our indigenous people just aren’t organised and ready enough yet. It will come.

That's strange. I bookmarked the site while viewing it and the bookmark is identical to the one in my post. But my bookmark now doesn't work and gives the same result as the one above!

Hundreds of thousands of women, aged 66+, who were not working between 1978 and 2010 to look after their children, could be owed tens of thousands of pounds.

Sounds like yet another public service that has been badly managed..... Is anything in the UK running efficiently and on track?
Thanks for the heads up Kev.
Later..... I have been thinking about the tragedy of the strike on the hospital in Gaza. It isn't in anyone's interest to deliberately commit such a heinous crime and so it is more likely to be a cock-up. Either the Israelis or Hamas have struck it by mistake. I don't think that whoever is responsible is going to fess up!

Sally will be interested in that, our Carla was born in 1978, Dan in 1980. She was a stay at home mum until they started school. Back to work for a few years then off again when our Jack was born in 1986.

Probably won't apply though like the 6 years of pension she has already been robbed of.

Back up after a nice sleep..... Decided I wanted a Nepalese Smoking hat and considered asking Susan to knit one but then decided life was too short and ordered it direct from Nepal. :biggrin2:

That's just a general advert for Amazon Kev so I don't know what you mean.
I made sure I ordered it from the original importer and not Amazon........
As soon as I logged out the advert came up with the Nepalese Smoking hat. They are too clever for their own good. Yes that's the one but not ordered through Amazon.

I'm not sure whether this should have been in Pets Corner but THIS grabbed me.....
PROUD dog lover Dylan Walsh reckons he owns Britain’s biggest pooch — a 7ft 2in giant who weighs more than 18 stone. Dylan calls Abu his “house horse” but the two-year-old Turkish Malakli could yet put on another 5st — because he is far from full grown.
The article goes on to say that the dog costs £400 a month to feed. I don't think I could afford it......

See THIS for bad news for tenants.
A ban on "no-fault" evictions in England will be indefinitely delayed until after the court system is reformed, the government has announced. Labour accused the government of kicking the much-delayed proposals into the "long grass", arguing legal reforms would "take years" to complete. Ministers have been promising to end the right of landlords to evict tenants without needing a reason since 2019. Housing Secretary Michael Gove said it was "vital" to update the courts first.
Isn't it funny how anything that could be seen as a move in favour of tenants against landlords is seen as fraught with difficulty. Or is that just be being a typical old Leftie!
