I shall be in the shed making muck and if the weather forecast is correct will get my walk and bookie watch in today.
I feel as though Covid is behind me. I hope I am right!

Morning

We managed a 4.75 mile walk yesterday morning but got very wet indeed. However it was good to get out, its ages since we did a long walk. Briony finished her cushion cover in the afternoon so we popped to Dunelm for a cushion of the right size. Eve spent the afternoon cooking with Bob. It was good to get to pilates in the evening to gave some ‘me’ time

I think today will be more of the same, although Briony wants to do some more art. We shall take the day as it comes.

Have a good day all

I considered walking in the rain but eventually bottled out Sue. I'm not as hardy as you and Bob.

I've been muck shifting and have started on the carronade.....

I did eventually get my walk and bookie watch in yesterday but not until almost 14:00!
Today I shall be in the shed chasing my carronade. The forecast is almost a re-run of yesterday but with less wind, we shall see how we fare for rain!

Morning

We had a lovely walk round the lake, though it was dull and breezy. Our 2 hours of rain turned out to be barely a few drops with a lovely afternoon. I spent the afternoon helping Briony create pictures of their two new cats, Eve made a shortcake dessert for our evening meal.

Today its a packing morning and then we are taking Julia and the girls out to lunch at the Shepherds Rest in Todmorden. They will leave for home from there. So my day after that will be washing bedding and putting the house back to some degree of order :laugh5: I have my annual blood test at 3.40 pm to monitor my pre diabetic condition, which I am convinced does not exist.

Have a good day all

"to monitor my pre diabetic condition, which I am convinced does not exist. "
:biggrin2: That's what I always said but in the end I had to give in and admit it! Does the house have to be spring cleaned today? consider a break!

After a cock up and a restart I am set up ready for taper turning tomorrow. It will go better than today! :biggrin2:

Ah well Stanley, the asthma medication I was on, well the side effect was increased blood sugar. I have been on a different one since November so we shall see. The level was barely into prediabetic before so I hope with the new medication it is now out of the range. The diabetic nurse was happy with my diet, weight, activity level and could not change anything much, except may be reduce the amount of fruit I eat. If I still get the same result , well I do. Its still only just prediabetic

I've been out for my walk and a bit of veggie shopping. It's nice out there! Quite warm sitting watching the world go by.

Morning

Despite it being the Thursday before Easter Julia had a good run back to Coventry from Todmorden making it in just under 3 hours. Lunch at the Shepherds was enjoyable but disappointing. They have cutback on the menu leaving what I can only describe as a pie and chips menu. Nothing different from very simple pubby food nothing special enough to warrant a 30 minute drive over from Rochdale. I foresee that our visits will now only be after a late u3a art session. There was nothing on the menu that I particularly wanted being very heavily carbohydrate based or food that I cook regularly myself. What we had was was good grub as they say but ‘pub grub’ is not what we went for. Portion sizes had increased ie more chips. As I said, not what we went for

Back home later, Bob hoovered and returned the beds to their normal position and I got on with the washing. Its all done now, the last load of towels will go on the line this morning. We also got down our suitcases from the loft plus our summer clothes ready for sorting, ironing and packing for our Portugal cruise. Whilst sitting in the evening I amended a packing list on my ipad and feel a little more ready than I was. Today I will iron, take back a pair of summer trousers to Marks and Spencer, and generally have a quiet day

Have a good day all

Morning Sue, I think your experience at the pub may get to be commonplace. From what I can see the major problem is a shortage of staff and poaching of cooks by other venues that can pay higher wages. The owner of a large chain was saying as much yesterday on R4.
I haven't been in the shed this morning, instead I was lazy for almost an hour instead. I have done my shopping and put it away. I got some sprouts and think they may be the last of this year's crop, a bit rough so I have peeled them and have them cooking now. I shall cook the rest of my veggies later.
Your comment about carbohydrates rang a bell. I had to steel myself this morning against the urge to buy a teacake and make a big egg buttie! I am craving carbs! I'm happy to say I won the battle but the urge is still there.....

I agree Stanley, Gareth said that was the problem. Our local pub that does food is all family run, so no staff shortage, though they have been advertising. The food is good, good choice, good price but always very busy so difficult to get a table. People seem to book almost weeks in advance. I think we will be going there on the week I don’t do art. The trouble is Wendy will be in Todmorden for craft that week so I think our weekly lunch routine will have to change

There will be shed today and from the look of the weather a walk and a sit on the benches later. If I'm lucky I'll have a coffee in the Square with Susan.... :biggrin2:

Morning

We walked into Rochdale yesterday by a long route, thus managing a 5 mile circuit. I took back my trousers to M&S and we bought a few toiletry bits and pieces for our cruise. We had a coffee at the new Costa in NEXT before walking back . After lunch I did a marathon ironing session of summer clothes that have been stored in suitcases, I also did repairs and alterations. This took me most of the afternoon, but punctuated by long sits in the conservatory with cups of tea.

This morning is Bacup market, as well as the usual food items I shall be looking at hardy garden plants, especially herbs like thyme. Afterwards we shall drive over to Argos to pick up a new suitcase that we ordered yesterday. On our last big trip abroad one of our suitcases got damaged at the airport. Their replacement was smaller than ours but big enough and easier to handle so we have bought another similar. We are only away 10 days this time in just one climate unlike our cruise in Alaska which we started in Vancouver, then stayed with friends in Washington DC and we were 3 weeks away. This meant we needed a large range of clothes hence the big case.

I hope to do a little tidying in the front garden this afternoon including pruning the winter flowering heathers. Thats my day, have a good one

Walking five miles..... lovely. (I wish.....)

One pic will do. I have drilled the tail, milled a flat on it and threaded it 3/16" Whitworth for the elevating screw. I have drilled the touch hole as well. The reason for doing these now is that the body of the carronade is still parallel and easy to hold in the vise. I also re-cut the curve on the breech, softening it a bit. Then back into the lathe, set up for taper turning and make a start. At this point I stopped to clear the swarf off the lathe and have breakfast. Tomorrow I shall take a view, do some measuring and get back into taper turning.

Two hours in the shed is the target, then on with the day after second sleep. One thing I have to do is send an old fashioned letter to Pendle Council to try to get a copy of my Council Tax bill. I can't access it online and two complaints have gone unanswered.

Morning

What a beautiful day yesterday. We did a lot of garden titivating, had lunch sat in the garden and a bit of a BBQ tea though we did eat that in the conservatory. Bob put a net over the surface of the pond. We thought we had lost all our fish over winter to a visiting heron, but two appeared during the afternoon. We shall restock when we come back from Portugal . Sometime in the afternoon we paid a short trip to Burnley cemetery to put flowers on the family grave. Mum would have been 99 today. Her birthday seemed to fall on Easter weekend quite often . We went armed with weedkiller but it looks like the cemetery gardeners have at last got the knotweed under control, after several complaints by us.

Today Bob will be at the train at the park most of the day, I think they will be very busy. I want to change our bedding but I also need to get on with some jacket sewing as I am due for a lesson with Maxine on Wednesday afternoon, there is not much to do beforehand but its fiddly and I need my wits about me so a quiet house is ideal

Have a good day all

Good luck with the jacket Sue and yes, yesterday was good.

Taper turning is finished and we have a start to polishing the barrel. I'm set up to finish the muzzle tomorrow.

Shed for more work on the carronade. I'll take a view when we get to walk time.
Must remember to check that my prescription has been sent through from the surgery. The service used to work perfectly but of late has been very poor.

Morning

Its damp this morning, the garden needs it as do all my pots. I planted some of the contents of these in the garden over the weekend and will reuse the pots for veggie plants I think. Bob had a good day at the train, taking well over £200 so there will be a walk to the bank this week. He will probably have to go by himself as I have a booked week. I managed to get my jacket done to the stage I wanted to be at so will be going to my sewing session with Maxine on Wednesday. I also collected items together for my packing to check they will go in the smaller case that we have bought. They do.

Our cherry tree was in full flower yesterday.we bought this house in the 70s and the big appeal was the cherry tree which I love.

Ornamental cherries are great but they don't last long do they......

I finished turning the muzzle of the carronade and then spent quite a lot of time polishing the barrel. Then I went looking to find the materials for the trunnions and undercarriage. I hadn't got enough 1/2" square material. I shall have to be imaginative with what I have got.
