I was in and out of diabetes clinic in ten minutes after the full monty of tests and recordings. The nurse noted with approval the fact I have lost weight and inches from my waist measurement. It will be mid January before the diabetes nurse rings me to give me the results.....

I've just got back from shopping for a few essentials like milk at the Co-op. (I noticed that the next 3 days are wall to wall wind and rain!) I haven't bought any baked beans for a while but noted the price this morning, £1.70 a tin for Heinz Baked Beans. You will never convince me that someone isn't taking the mickey!

1. Blag a lift to Aldi -theirs are 45p and equal if not better quality. Resist the temptation though, to buy an angle grinder or similar in the centre aisle. I bet you fail.

57p will get you added 'sausages' which are good if you don't examine their content too closely.
2. Note the Turner Prize for sculpture has been won by one Jesse Darling ( no me neither) who, of course, identifies as transmasculine, and whose masterpiece can be seen here
Turner Prize 2023.
The resemblance betwen the main feature and my own home desktop, cannot be coincidental, and all options remain open - including an action for "passing off". How dare they call such valued documents "everyday detritus" ?
The work bears similarities to this major Yorkshire offering, which I first put up in 2016, and is always well worth another close look.
Colne Valley Sculpture Trail.
Number 6 "Wall / Fall / Wall remains a firm favourite of mine.

I prefer Aldi's baked beans

PS - on the Aldi warranty saga / computer glitch. I note that on my latest shop, they have given me a very precise 14 month warranty on a 99p bag of frozen Petit Pois. I don't see me making a claim though.

Check all the peas are 'petit', where there's blame there's a claim

Yes, that thought had occurred to me. I am still eating my stock, hoarded during Brexit campaign. I think some were bought as a four-pack for £1.
Did you see
THIS report a week ago?
The first ever commercial crop of British-grown baked beans have been canned in a Lincolnshire factory. Specially bred haricot beans designed to grow in the UK climate were harvested in September at a farm in the county. It is hoped that the baked bean breakthrough will reduce the reliance on imports. More than two million tins are eaten every day, with all the beans grown in the US, Canada, Ethiopia and China. The project was developed by scientists at the University of Warwick, who took 12 years to produce the seeds. A smaller-scale trial to grow them in 2022 failed due to the summer heatwave. Some health food brands have attempted to market British-grown broad beans as "baked beans", but they have lacked mass appeal due to the difference in taste to haricots.

An Airbus Beluga flew over us this morning on its way from Toulouse to Chester, presumably shuttling very big pieces of the company's aircraft under construction. I love the choice of nickname, much better than Airbus A300-600ST Super Transporter! It was quieter than the prop-driven Airbus A400 Atlas that crossed its path above us going west.

During the war Xmas decorations used to start with a roll of crepe paper, a pair of scissors and a pot of flower and water paste. Then we set to making the paper chains that were draped everywhere. I;m glad to see that those days are long gone. I'm worried about those poor people who can't get their decorations because of delays at the Suez and Panama Canals.

Further to my post about Heinz Beans at £1.70 a tin.... I had occasion to go in the Cathedral of Choice this morning and I took more notice of the prices of tins of baked beans. The price is £1.70for one tin but £2 buys you two.
This really annoys me, what it means is that if you are poor and watching every penny you can't afford to buy two tins so you pay 70% more than someone who can afford the offer. Whoever came up with that cunning wheeze should be ashamed of themselves!

Which is why a lot of people shop at Aldi, baked beans are 45p.
