Wendy, the main material available for trench art was shell cases. That's why it is often called 'shell art'. These are always brass so if an article isn't brass you can almost certainly dismiss it being trench art.

I'm quite sure it's brass but the base is plain with no markings.

Well that doesn't take us much further forward. Most of North Africa is a good source of craft metal work objects. My best guess would be commercial rather than trench - it looks a bit elaborate and 'touristy' for a squaddy to have made? Just my thoughts.

Tom's right, they are the Shiloh Calendar ladies. All in very good taste. Edmund Gartside, CEO of Shiloh Spinners was tickled when I told him I had them all and yes he said that the selection meeting of the Board was a very tense affair!
