Imagine being Elvis Presley’s daughter, that wouldn’t have been easy. I admired her.

Gina Lolobrigida, Italian actress, has died aged 95. Can't say I'm familiar with any of her films but I have heard the name.

This 'beholder' would give that accolade to Sophia Loren - who I find is still with us at 87.

Off topic sorry but for continuity

Comparisons are odious
Literal meaning.
The meaning and origin of the phrase 'Comparisons are odious'The earliest recorded use of this phrase appears to be by John Lydgate in his Debate between the horse, goose, and sheep, circa 1440:

"Odyous of olde been comparisonis, And of comparisonis engendyrd is haterede."

It was used by several authors later, notably Cervantes, Christopher Marlowe and John Donne.
In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare gave Dogberry the line 'comparisons are odorous'. It seems that he was using this ironically, knowing it to be a misuse of what would have been a well known phrase by 1599 when the play was written.

I thnk Keats covers it well in "Ode on a Grecian Urn" (GCE 1957 !)

"'Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty.' – that is all / Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know".

It's a long way from the modern view of such as Prince Harry -who has his 'personal truth'. It'll do for me though.

So sad. A troubled soul who had turned against his former band members in recent years but he wrote beautiful music that's been a huge part of our lives.

At last - someone I've heard of has died.

Paco Rabanne has died at the age of 88 years.

I've had a splash in his memory. I got a really good deal on three bottles from Approved Foods about ten years ago. This is the last one.

Still a favourite.

I knew little of this lady except that she narrowly beat my namesake in the 1992 election.

Janet Anderson

From what I read - she sounds like one of the good 'uns.
