Looks like I was incorrect in my previous understanding about the buildings owner. From posts read on Facebook it would seem that the building was bought by an individual and not gifted to the town as I stated before. Town Council had cordoned off access until a proper assessment can be made.

Pendle Council have issued the following.
Following a fire at Gospel Mission Hall in Barnoldswick there has been a release of asbestos cement debris. We've delivered letters to homes in the immediate area with advice.
We’ve started to clean the streets and we’ll be working to remove any debris from gardens as soon as possible. Please do not remove debris yourself or mow lawns until we have had an opportunity to assess any spread of debris over your property.
To do this, please allow Pendle Borough Council staff to enter your garden or yard. If needed, we will remove debris and carry out a clean-up of the area.
Please note that anyone knocking at your door will have appropriate identification and should be refused access if they are unable to provide it.
If you have any questions, please call our Environmental Health Team on 01282 661034.

Looks like an a electrical fault to me.
Perhaps replace it with a mosque - probably more in demand than a Gospel Mission these days. That would surely not clash with the covenant.
Word on the street is it was arson and the police have the names of the guilty parties from more than one source. This is based on social media comments which, in Barlick, usually have an element of truth about them.

Of course it was. I'm losing my touch with irony.
The consequences will be interesting. The building itself will have little to no value, and no one was injured, but the clean up bill will be considerable. I doubt whoever did it gave that any thought.

What this incident shows is the false economy of ignoring a situation like that of the asbestos roofed building standing unoccupied, one could say derelict, for so long and doing nothing about it. Removing the asbestos before anything like this happened would have been a lot quicker and cheaper than the clean-up they are contemplating.
I have had quite a lot of experience and a clean-up like the one being proposed is a licence to print money.
If there is no insurance in place it is a dereliction of duty.
On a lighter note. Today Jess and Muthomi together with Kahara and Lily fly out to Perth where Jess has taken a job in the hospital service for at least two years. I doubt if they will ever come back. What an adventure!
So many good people are being driven out of the NHS by the bad pay and conditions.

Letter from the Council regarding the clean up after the Gospel Mission Hall fire. They say they will be inspecting properties, back yards and front gardens for signs of contamination which will be sorted if found. Residents are asked not to mow lawns or attempt clean ups themselves.
Our house is 200 yards as the crow flies from the site.

Jess and Mo and the kids are over the Arabian Sea heading for Perth. Katie and Laura are going to meet them and ease their transition into a new life. Exciting stuff. Initially they are staying at Margaret's house and of course at the moment she is in Clitheroe! My family don't half move about quickly! (Susan and Mick are in Stockton on Tees, they have taken Holly and Evie there to visit her husband Tim's mother.
I am just about keeping up!

Very exciting Stanley , and yes knowing that they are safe ‘all the way up there’, is an amazing thing.
My daughter will be heading back to England in a months time.

There were two Chinooks.
I saw one today while in Aldi, there could have been more that had already flown over as I was looking out the window while packing.

About 4 years ago the developers built the houses on Bank Street that robbed us of the view of the Dales. To add insult to injury they left us with the corrugated iron remains of the old joiner's shop.
Today is a red letter day because they are at long last taking it down. It remains to be seen what they will put in its place but I think it will be better than the old wall!

That's the old elevated pill box from the war gone then Kev. I wonder how far down the multi-storey block they are going?
My personal notable incident was that my grand daughter Holly and her child Evie flew out of the country ye3sterday and are on their way back to Australia. She had come to attend her sister's wedding at Bath.

A part of Barlick's history swept away there. Fine if they replace the area with new factory space for the future of Rolls. Not good if its another canal side housing development.
Took the car into the garage this morning for a service before the holiday season.

I wonder why things like this which seem perfectly OK suddenly get changed? It's a bit like these silly name changes for big companies. Can you remember the failed Post Office attempt to adopt a new Logo?

Let's hope it stays open now!
I had a very nice lunch in the sun in Town Square with Margaret and Mick. I haven't seen a lot of them this trip so far because they have been so busy dealing with the transition of Mick's Mum into a care home at Sawley with Mick's brother helping them. It has all gone well, they have managed everything in three weeks. and she has settled in well. They are very pleased and I think they have worked a miracle. Now they are going to have 4 days in Krakow before coming back and giving me a bit of attention.....

At least it was soon consigned to the bin!
