Morning

Julia and family are off after breakfast, then we will go to the supermarket to buy a few things to take home. I should get all the bedding washed and dried as its forecast dry, and 26 degrees. I just have to vacuum the bedrooms and cover the beds with dust sheets and all will be done upstairs. I cleaned downstairs a couple of days ago, a sweep through should be enough . We have to pack . The fridge is nearly empty, a good job done . We shall probably pop round to see Laetitia and co this evening and leave the chocolate puddings left over in the fridge and the coca cola left on the shelf. Its an early start tomorrow, as we need to be away from here before 7.00 am.

Have a good day all

I'll re[eat myself Sue, it's all go! You don't seem to have been there for any time at all.... I hope you have a good trip tomorrow.

I considered further refining the shape of the glands but then decided I'd leave them to my successor as he might have better eyesight than me. Good call and I quietly went forward, drilled and tapped for 6BA and fitted the gland plates. Now I'm ready to attach the feed pump to the main pump. A good morning.... :biggrin2:

Hopefully the delays at the ferry ports won't impact your journey

No problem at St Malo, normally. It operates in a different way and has few commercial vehicles . JUlia and family crossed from Caen today with no problems. I believe Dover is the only port that does French border control on the UK side . This is apparently the main reason for the queues

"It will be 7 weeks when we get home Tuesday night "
It doesn't seem that long! Where did summer go?
I shall be in the shed working on attaching the feed pump to the main pump body. We shall have to wait and see what the weather is doing at midday before deciding on a walk and a sit! The forecast says it will be dry, but they also say it's dry now when we have heavy rain!

At the ferry, all booked in , just waiting to board. The cars leaving the ferry have gone. No significant queues. We sail at 10.30 French time, and arrive in Portsmouth 6.30 pm UK time. We are staying overnight in Portsmouth and driving home tomorrow rather than call in to Julias this evening. It will be our usual morning , reading, followed by a long lunch in the restaurant and a sleep in the afternoon . We will browse the shop but we rarely buy anything.

I picked all my tomatoes yesterday , there must be several kilos, two carrier bags full. Only a few are ripe but I am sure some will ripen on the way home. Bob picked some blackberries. Two bumper crops, though everything else was a failure. I picked 3 small courgettes for our tea, and I have 4 strawberry flowers and many runners, my plants now fully recovered.

Have a good day all

Nice to know where you are Sue, two and a half hours outside Portsmouth. I hope you are sleeping well. Sounds like a relaxed day for you today, good, you deserve it....
I shall be cleaning up and studying my drawings this morning rather than any actual work. I have to decide what to do about the eccentric problem. I still can't see how they work....
Not sure about my walk and sit. It depends on whether the forecast thunder gets here at midday.

Morning

We arrived in Portsmouth early last night, at 6.00 pm. It was 6.30 when we left the boat and 7.00 when we left the port. Two ferries had arrived together, ours from St Malo and one from Spain, but the queues moved steadily and efficiently. We spent the night at the Holiday Inn Express at Farlington about three miles from the port. Of course I woke before 6.00 am on French time still, but not to the sounds ofthe neighbours cock crowing. We ate at a local Chinese restaurant last night and arrived back to the hotel just as a horrendous thunder storm started. I am glad we were here and not still crossing the channel.

The crossing was smooth, the sun was out but we stayed in our cabin away from the masses. The restaurant was closed due to staff shortages so we are in the self service cafeteria, never a good experience! Bob had booked a more luxury cabin so we had tea making facilities, chairs and a comfy bed to dose on as well as a bowl of fruit and a Tv which kept us entertained though we avoided all aspects of the news about Truss.

We shall set off for home after rush hour and call at Coventry for lunch, taking a sandwich in with us. Julia is back at work but Ed and the girls will be there, two more days before they return to school/work. We will be home mid afternoon, with a Tesco delivery of food arriving at 5.00 Ish. I have no idea of the weather forecast but no doubt I will feel cold :laugh5:

Have a good day all

I missed the fact it was 06:30 PM Sue! It won't be too cold when you get home Sue but you might see some more thunderstorms on your way North. They are forecast to come in at midday.

I started the day by cleaning Mrs Harrison, she has been neglected of late.... Then I put the pump together for a trial fit up which gives me a better idea of what I need to do. I looked at the ME articles as well and tried to make sense of the eccentrics. Unfortunately I didn't learn anything. I think I will have to leave the eccentrics and concentrate on the steam and pump rods that run on the crankshaft I made.
I'm sorry to say that Mr Westbury's drawings are not comprehensive and short on dimensions. A lot of what I am doing is guesswork. I shall just have to keep plugging along following my hunches until I reach a dead end!

I shall be in Barlick this morning about 10.45 , I will pop in for a few minutes and after putting the world to rights have a look at at the eccentrics. Two brains are better than one even if they are sheep's brains. :biggrin2:

I see from the weather map and forecast Stanley that the rain in Brittany is crossing the channel and moving north, so rain at our place in France and rain at home....thats SeptemberπŸ™. Its due to rain more or less all week in both places

Ken did call in and confirmed that my tentative solution was correct. He's right, two heads are better than one.
I think you're right Sue. How nice that it rained in Downing Street yesterday.... :biggrin2: My only complaint is that it should have started just as La Truss reached the podium.....
I know exactly what to do in the shed this morning. The way forward with the Shand Mason fire pump is clear now. As for the rest of the day I'll decide when I see the weather. Yesterday I never stirred out of the house, every time I thought about it we had a thunder shower! (Unlike the politicians in Downing Street yesterday I have more sense than to get wet.....

I've done an hour in the shed cleaning up the parts of the yokes that transmit the drive between the cylinders and the pump. They were rusty so it's a major job. I did an hour and then my shoulder forced a stop. The sooner it mends the better!

Morning

It was a very pleasant, warm, sunny drive home yesterday, even 21 degrees in Rochdale. The rain did not arrive until evening so we got the car unpacked and everything put away in the dry. Unlike most trips away I was not left with a bag of dirty washing to deal with but merely our travelling clothes that can wait a couple of days. The garden is massively overgrown but very colourful. A bit of deadheading to start with may just do the trick but not today.

Today its a hair cut first thing, also massively overgrown after 8 weeks, then this afternoon we are off to a show in Manchester. We had tickets for Les Miserables during lockdown which of course we lost due to cancellation of the show. We were given a credit note to be used by the end of this October, so today is the show from our credit note. There was nothing much we fancied, this is WE WILL ROCK YOU, and we have little idea what it will be like. I should be back from the hairdressers by 10.30 so will probably go straight to Manchester and have a light lunch there before the show.

Have a good day all.

If you like the music of Queen you'll enjoy it. We saw it several years ago in Manchester and found it really good.

We love Queen, thank you for that comment. Wendy the garden is wild but buried in there are corn cobs, patty pan, some courgettes and a lot of very overgrown runner beans.

In the shed working on the drive yokes for the pump. Forecast looks OK so a walk and bookie watch could be on. Otherwise just looking after myself.
[I watched my neighbour go out and get caught in a shower whilst walking the dog. That's not something that bothers me now....]

Morning

It was 6.30 pm when we got back from Manchester. We both felt tired after the day out. We were in Manchester by noon and had a leisurely lunch at an Italian restaurant I know, and it was nice enough to sit outside and watch the world go by. By the time we had finished lunch it was perfect timing to make our way to the Palace theatre. The rain held off until we were actually home again.

Today showers and light rain are forecast this afternoon but dry this morning. I am having a pedicure this morning at my friend Vicki’s, the. Despite any wet weather , this afternoon I shall continue with the dead heading and general tidying I started yesterday and bring my cacti into the conservatory having spent the last 7 weeks outside. I find it does them a lot of good, once back inside it seems to stimulate early and vigorous flowering.

Have a good day all
