Notre Dame is on the right lines but just 531 miles too far.
This is the last clue if you don't get it I will skin you alive.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Correct. St Bartholomew's. He is said to have been martyred in Albanopolis in Armenia. According to one account, he was beheaded, but a more popular tradition holds that he was flayed alive and crucified, head downward.
The photo is of the spiral stairs leading to the roof of the tower but also serving as entrances to the bell ringing chamber and the bell room itself. The stairs are approximately a total of three feet diameter and enclosed entirely within the thickness of the walls. Unfortunately, access to these stairs is very limited and I must admit their presence came as a surprise to myself. In mitigation they have only been there about 400 years.
With due respect to Quasimodo and his followers the link below is worth a look at.

If its heavy then those hands can't be holding it up...must be part of something. It looks sooty, is it to do with a steam traction engine?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Once more, Chief Engineer Gloria has got it.

Victoria beam engine shaft in 1954. It broke and Brown and Pickles made a new one and fitted it.

I have bestowed the accolade in your profile so it is now visible in all your posts at the side Gloria. You can now change your signature byline if you wish.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Thanks Ian, I get mixed up with you can add on the right of the page and what I can add to my signature-----like I say "I'd be dangerous with a brain".

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I suppose the User Control Panel can be classed as a mystery object! The bits at the side can be found on the profile tab in the user CP Gloria. You obviously know where to find the signature bit. Stanley reminded me to do it when I called round to see him this morning.
