Can't you just download Open Office if it would make the job easier?

Open Office

It is an OPENOFFICE icon on my laptop but loads libra office . Bob has checked he can download it but it has been discontinued, and no support for it. I am better off learning the uptodate one in case It takes me months/ years to finish this project . I started this pre pandemic :laugh5:

Is your laptop Windows or Apple based Sue. I don't know what you mean by discontinued, It seems to be current on the link I put up. Anyway if it runs does it matter if it is not the latest version or no longer supported?

I have just checked on my desktop PC which is running Windows 10 and it runs fine and the short cut opens Apache Open Office. I know there are versions for Mac and earlier versions still available for older Windows platforms. I would have though one of these variants would suit.

Its Windows. I am not techi in things like this . I only went off what Bob found out this evening when he did some research . Anyway I have made great progress this evening constructing a template that matches what I already have on my existing chapters. I copied one short chapter into it saved under a different name and it seemed OK. However it had no images, tables, footnotes which other chapters have. If all else fails Bob has said he will download the open office on to my laptop . Thanks for your help

It wasn't until I read this exchange that I realised that I was no longer on Open Office but Libre Office. Shows how techy I am!
I shall be putting my Dumore Grinder away and getting straight, it's a monster job for me..... Then I think I have to have a day cooking and perhaps a short walk afterwards.... (Or before, it just depends how things fall...) I want everything straight before tomorrow as I have a social engagement.....

Morning

I spent a few hours on libra office last night and do feel some what happier. There is more to crack but it will keep me occupied on dismal days and dark nights .

This morning is Bacup market followed by a trip to the Drs for our flu vaccinations. The weather forecast is cool and cloudy with just a little sun and not much rain. Perhaps we shall go for a walk. We shall see. Otherwise my hostas are dying quickly and need cutting back as do the last remnants of most flowers. The fuchsias are still flowering nicely and give a splash of colour to the garden .

Have a good day all

Best of luck with your Flu jabs Sue..... there have been mixed reports and I believe they were what knocked me back last week.
I've just come out of the shed and everything is back to normal configuration so I am ready now for some normal shed work...... I have put my chicken in the oven to roast. :biggrin2:

I had my short walk after a sleep and then dealt with my roast chicken. Then I got into veggie cooking and am almost finished. There was one surprise.... I found I had no carrots! But they are high in carbs anyway so perhaps no bad thing. I think I might survive.... :biggrin2:

I shall have my hour in the shed and then after my second sleep a car will come at noon to take me to Bancroft to meet a lady called Jill Manning who is descended from James Nutter and is trying to find out about him. She's read most of the stuff I've written about him so I'm not sure how I can help her but we'll see.

Forget the shed, this morning has been spent trying to make sense of my account from British Gas. Basically what they are saying is that I am £45.79 in credit which covers my total energy costs for the last three months. I can't understand it but have to believe it. No point in trying to talk to them. I shall just site here and look after my money making sure I have enough in the account to pay when the next bill comes in in three months!

Morning

We both feel fine after our flu jabs yesterday though my arm is a little tender. It has never affected us before and we did not expect it to this time. The same with the covid vaccination , no side effects except a sore arm for 24 hours.

What a glorious afternoon yesterday and I think todays forecast is similar. We went for a walk doing a 4.5 mile circuit up through the Dell back down towards Rochdale and back home via the woodland path near Turners. We called to see Maxine but a neighbour said they had just gone out in the van. I think they must have been going to collect stuff from her Dads house. Its a long job house clearing after someone has died.

Once back home and revived by a cuppa I put the lastt remnants of my summer clothes in the loft and sorted through the case with my winter clothes in. I decided I have far too many clothes ( I will keep making them) so did a cull and sorted out a sack full for the hospice. There are some good items of hardly warn stuff, which I will drop off at the shop on Monday. I shall also take a couple of jumpers to France and throw out some over there.

Today Bob is at the park, I think it could be busy. I plan on a little more cutting back and pruning in the garden.

Have a good day all.

I have mainly been cutting the grass, with a break to watch F1 highlights at lunchtime. I cleaned up my strimmer and mower before putting them away, hoping that's the last time they get used this year. 🤞

Morning

Its due to be cold and sunny. I see that Countryfile weather forecast slapped a 15 degrees on us on the map yesterday, the weather app puts us at 11 to 13 much more realistic.

This morning I have pilates followed by a trip to the asthma clinic at my request, as I think the daily inhaler is affecting my voice. After lunch we are planning a walk as it is nice. We are just coming to the end of a virtual walk on my walking app. It was Iona to Lindisfarne. Its taken us over a year to do the 279 miles as other activities have taken over.

This evening I shall continue with my steep learning curve of libreoffice, having now found the help manual online.

Have a good day all

Good luck with Libra Office Sue. I suppose I ought to look at the map instead of just using it as a typewriter.....
I hope you get an answer to the inhaler problem. Once again I realise how lucky I am.....

I've just come out of the shed after a happy hour getting some shape and registers into the base of the standard which is the foundation for the build. I shall continue down the same route tomorrow.

I think using it as a typewriter is my usual mode of any writing program, but when you are writing a book in separate chapters initially a better knowledge is needed. Its no problem now I have got into it. I like a challenge and it keeps me busy without sewing more clothes :laugh5:

I shall be in the shed for an hour with the wobbler. No sun forecast today but no rain either so I think a walk and a sit will be on as long as I wrap up well! I keep thinking of David's injunction to have my sit every day come what may!

Back in the house after an hour in the shed. Using the registers I created yesterday I went on with squaring the faces of bosses and drilling holes in the standard for the crankshaft and the cylinder pivot. I also drilled the oil hole for the shaft.

Morning

I had a relatively successful visit to the asthma nurse yesterday. I made the appointment with her as it was easier then getting an appointment with my GP. A trip to the clinic automatically includes a BP check, which was nice and low indeed. After a long chat she thought my asthma medication was fine but a possibility that the nasty virus I had damaged my voice box ( which I strongly suspected) so she suggests making a GP appointment but at least now I can insist.

At my request she did a cholesterol and sugar test...the latter being the one that I normally have just after Christmas but we are hoping that being away from the festive and birthday season with numerous meals out and celebratory cakes that are not my normal fodder the result will be more representative. The cholesterol test I have been asking for for months having altered my diet and exercise regime as suggested since the last one that was a bit borderline. I have constantly been told a GP needed to ask for it, no appointments available meant no test. The asthma nurse felt otherwise.

In the afternoon we went for a 4+ mile walk up into the hills and back along the old railway track footpath. We haven’t done the walk for months, it was rather soggy underfoot but very pleasant . We now only have 3 miles to do to complete our current virtual walk. Some fabric arrived to make a winter skirt so I prewashed that and it dried nicely on the line. When I went to get the pattern out of the box , the pattern pieces were missing, goodness knows where. Its a very very old pattern indeed circa 1985 but a modern skirt style again, so i put the pattern number into Ebay and found an uncut one for £1.95 plus postage I was chuffed to say the least 😊

Today I have some packing to do. Bob is going away tomorrow till Sunday evening as he is one of the officials at the Model Engineering fair down in Warwickshire this weekend. He is staying in the Premier inn near Julias so we can combine it with a visit there. I have things to do here on Wednesday to Friday morning so am going down to Coventry by train on Friday afternoon. I shall spend Saturday and Sunday with Ed and Briony ( Julia and Eve are away for the weekend swimming) . At Bs request I am helping her make a simple skirt on the sewing machine.

Otherwise today not much planned, I have pilates and yoga this evening, possibly a 3 mile walk this morning to complete our virtual walk . Have a good day all.

The shed has gone by the board as I listen to the commentators talking about the current economic crisis. Some very interesting opinions.
The German one in particular struck me. He said that the massive Credit card debt combined with the current government pursuit of growth by unfunded tax cuts had convinced the managers of his fund that the UK government was living beyond its means and that was why his fund had sold its UK bonds. He suspected that other funds were doing the same and this would not change as long as Truss and Kwarteng stick to their universally condemned strategy.
Sorry, that is off piste but that's why I am not in the shed. This is serious and is costing a lot of people a lot of money. Mortgages are only one aspect of the costs.

Morning

We completed our virtual walk yesterday doing just a 3.6 mile circuit round the moors locally. I didn’t want to do more as I had pilates and yoga in the evening. When I do too much physical exercise in one day it can trigger off my restless leg syndrome. I spent the afternoon sat in the conservatory with my laptop on my knee. Using the libre office manual on my ipad I set up a master document and a master template. Progress is being made.

Bob is off to Warwick after breakfast. I have a you tube yin yoga to do sometime during the day, possibly this evening, but this morning I shall go into Rochdale to have a browse round and buy a book for my friend Wendy ( with the shoulder op) as I will be visiting her this afternoon.

So thats my day, enjoy yours
